Offered are an INCREDIBLE and EXTREMELY TASTEFUL pair of 1940s/World War II-era. Hand-crafted, Italian micro-mosaic, 7/8-inch button-style earrings. They look really STUNNING on and are not too busy, like some other designs I've seen. They were brought back to the United States from Italy by a soldier for his sweetheart. Although now approximately 75 years old, these earrings remain in very good. Extremely wearable shape. When seen under the camera's flash. Each earring looks like it has a green stone missing. In actuality, they do not. Those spaces were never filled and are not noticeable under normal lighting conditions, as you can see in my photo taken without a flash. The grout behind each earring's tiny. Glass tiles is lighter in color. And that is what the camera picks up, under a flash. These earrings are constructed of ... moresilverplated brass. Millefiori tiles and micro-mosaic tiles, the latter two of which are made by mouth-blowing glass. The clip-on clasps hold the earrings in place at a comfortable but secure pressure. This exceptionally large Italian Grand Tour Era(or perhaps earlier) Micromosaic- 9.75” x 7.75” with original frame is indeed a rare find. Besides the amazing size. The micro mosaic is beautifully vibrant in color, detailed in design, and elegant in theme. It shows Venice's iconic Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal, with gondolas in the foreground and other structures lining the canal in the background. The cement-filled metal pan back gives the piece a hefty weight, while the ornate carved wooden frame(believed to be original or at the very least quite old) lends a further sense of classical beauty. Italian micro mosaic souvenir made during the 1830s-70s. This piece showcases five of Romes most important destinations. The center medallion depicts St. Peters square; the other medallions show: the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Temple of Hercules and some ancient ruins. Although this piece has been broken and repaired, only the Colosseum medallion has been compromised; the other medallions are in fabulous shaped. It would even be possible to cut the small, antique mosaics out of the stone and use them as individual decorations. This piece is in good overall condition. Despite its large repair. The entire stone has a break from the two o'clock to six o'clock position, which has been ... morerepaired. The repair could certainly be done better and filled in more and repainted to make it almost invisible. The Colosseum mosaic is broken and about 1/3 is missing, but it could be filled in and painted to match if so desired. The largest, center mosaic is missing a couple of small stones, as we have pointed out in the close-up photograph. There are numerous small chips to the black stone especially along the edges. The other three mosaics are in fabulous overall condition. I can find no other problems. The whole piece measures 4 1/2 by 6 1/4 inches. The center mosaic measures 1 3/4 by 2 inches and the other four measure 1 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches. Good luck and bid with confidence.
