Antique French Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Egg Watch Holder Picture Holder
Up for consideration is a wonderful Antique French Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Egg- Watch/Locket/Picture Holder. The MOP egg measures approx. 5 1/8" from the bottom of the alabaster to the top of the bird. There are 2 MOP Eggs each with gold ormolu beading down the side of them. There is a wonderful eagle/bird on the top. If you push down slightly on the top of the bird and turn slightly to the left. It opens the 2 MOP eggs- to reveal a round disk into which a pocketwatch would reside. The round disk measures approx. 1 1/2" in diameter and would probably hold a ladies pocketwatch- there is a hook above the round disk(see Pict. 10) from which you would hang the watch. You could also hang a locket or picture(portrait on ivory) Holding the bird at the top and turning slightly, you can manually"snap" the two MOP eggs closed. ... moreThe base appears to be alabaster and the metal base of the egg has 2"pins" to secure it to the alabaster. It is secure but the metal base(pins) needs to be tightened to the alabaster. I didn't want to attempt this. You could either tighten it yourself or take it to a jeweler to tighten- or just leave it as I have. This is a wonderful and unique and rare item and one you will really love.

Antique French Palais Royal Egg Shaped M.O.P. Ormolu Perfume Scent Casket Caddy
Petite and pretty. Circa 1870s, French Palais Royal egg shaped mother of pearl and gilt metal perfume casket with two miniature cut glass bottles. Finial with flower and vine leaf on opposite sides. Mounted on an alabaster plinth. By pressing the finial a spring mechanism inside the center rod releases a clasp that holds the shell halves together and the egg opens up. Inside the two bottles sit in filigree holders on the rod. Mechanism works fine. The position of the shells when open is not completely symmetrical. The shell halves are in perfect condition with a beautiful iridescent lustre. The bottles are clean without any chips. The gilt caps show some wear but the hinges are good and they close well. One stopper is missing. No chips or cracks to the alabaster plinth. The ormolu mounts have lost some of the gilding but is still in very ... moregood condition. It is made of decorative Brass and may have had something attached to the top of the extending pole at one time. The Antique French Palais Royal MOP Egg Casket Cart measures approximately 4 1/2" tall. Measuring to the top of the parasol like brass pole. The center MOP Egg Casket measures approximately 1 1/2" tall is about 2 1/2" wide. The brass frame of the Cart is approximately 5 1/4" wide. The length of the Alabaster Plinth measures 4 1/4" and has a 2 1/2" width. The MOP cylinder container measures approximately a little less than 2" tall. Condition: The two Mother of Pearl half shells which form the Egg/ Box are in good overall condition. Showing lovely pearlescent rainbow colored shimmer. Fabulous French Palais Royal glass trinket dish with beveled glass mirror. Ornately decorated with brass repousse floral(sunflower) design. The original blue glass dish insert has a 12 point"star" design and is in excellent condition.To the viewers left are 5 porcelain flowers, the largest is missing a petal.I am not sure if this was original or added sometime later. The overall condition is very good with a wonderful aged patina. Measures 10 1/2" high with the dish being 4 1/4 in diameter.

This masterwork of french decorative art craftsmanship has been produced for one of the leading parisian luxury shops of the Palais Royal offering the best of french precious objects to Grand Tour and aristocratic travellers in the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1880's with fabulous colours in the glass f the colour of medium pink/rose. This is a wonderful and a more difficult antique to find. It is a display set for liquor or punch or merely as a conversational piece, perhaps a gift for your love one.But, whatever you use this for- its a high quality Exceptional set. The small glasses fit inside each of the holders on his side with two missing due to age. however there is enough there and this is a larger set as well to come by during my finds in France. He carries the holder at back of his shoulders which is made of crystal glass having a dispenser for the liquid you place inside for pouring outward ... morehowever the stopper is missing. Its remains in antique as found condition. and harder to come by.I do not come by these often on my trips to France. It was wonderful again to come by this one just the way is is. the figure itself is wonderful with all the bronze surroundings and the uniqueness of this fine French Napoleon III set. This is from the 19th century and circa 1880's and very rare to come by and during my trips to France I try to search and purchase any I am fortunate enough to find. His backside has a tiny hole as a screw was inside but I removed it. perhaps the past owner had a purpose for this. He is a wonderful and gorgeous piece to display anywhere. There are a total of 10 cups having gold leaf motifs on each with no cracks and no chips what I see. The cups are about 2.75" tall each one. There are 12 holders available making 2 cups missing which is only natural due to its age. The barrel is missing its small stopper at center top which again is only natural due to age. Paris, this little carriage is as appealing today as it would have been in c.1810-40 when it was original created. I've always loved these, drawn to them still. This one has 2 dark patina prancing horses in gilted harness, pulling a carriage comprised of ormolu framework and ... morenatural mother of pearl shell halves that combine to form almost an egg form. Fabulous for a display and collection, these appeal in the same way the old French opaline eggs do, and are made similarly. Alabaster base is original, the entire piece is just as it would have been nearly 200 years ago when it first thrilled its viewers. Gilt ormolu arched stand supports rose bud egg jewel casket.Rose decoration is transfere ware. Gilt ormolu is decorated with little daisy flowers. Leaves and flower buds. The metal is a little corroded. There is a one and 1/2 inch crack on the lid.It is located on the back side. Still a nice shelf piece. The piece stands seven and 1/2 inch high by six inch wide.
