And up top is a pristine Italian marble mosaic, pietra dura" or hard stone marquetry created entirely by hand sawn marble and semi-precious stones. This work is done in Florence, Italy, primarily and historically. And if you visit Florence, you'll notice a couple of stores near the Ponte Vecchio still sell these old ones today, though one like this would be 3-4 times our price if you wait to buy it there. ANTIQUE/VTG/1940s MICRO-MOSAIC/PIETRA DURA/MILLEFIORI CLIP-ON EARRINGS ITALIAN
Offered are an INCREDIBLE and EXTREMELY TASTEFUL pair of 1940s/World War II-era. Hand-crafted, Italian micro-mosaic, 7/8-inch button-style earrings. They look really STUNNING on and are not too busy, like some other designs I've seen. They were brought back to the United States from Italy by a soldier for his sweetheart. Although now approximately 75 years old, these earrings remain in very good. Extremely wearable shape. When seen under the camera's flash. Each earring looks like it has a green stone missing. In actuality, they do not. Those spaces were never filled and are not noticeable under normal lighting conditions, as you can see in my photo taken without a flash. The grout behind each earring's tiny. Glass tiles is lighter in color. And that is what the camera picks up, under a flash. These earrings are constructed of ... moresilverplated brass. Millefiori tiles and micro-mosaic tiles, the latter two of which are made by mouth-blowing glass. The clip-on clasps hold the earrings in place at a comfortable but secure pressure. These earrings would look lovely worn with a sage-colored top or paired with any shade from the fall color palette. Richard Blow Montici Plaque In the Original Frame- 6.375 x 4.625 inches The plaque itself measures 3.75 x 2.125 inches Condition is excellent. With some normal wear on the frame, commensurate with its age. I did not see any chips or repairs to the plaque. I would note only that the eye of the upper left fish is a mother of pearl inlay, and is more reflective in normal light than the photos show. This is an early piece. The plaque depicts two birds and their nest on a flowering branch. The birds are very nicely and realistically rendered. With bright eyes and beautiful feather patterns which are actually natural variations in color in the stones. The branch on which the nest is set has pink-tinged white trumpet flowers of some variety, as well as vines, leaves and blue berries. The background of the plaque is some type of black stone. The underside has strips of green felt applied so the plaque won't scratch surfaces. This piece is in great overall condition. There are two chips to the edge of the plaque. At the lower righthand corner, which would not be visible if the piece ... morewere framed. The lines on the surface of the plaque are not breaks, these are original to the making of the piece, which is by definition assembled from smaller pieces of stone. Vintage RICHARD BLOW ITALIAN MODERNIST PIETRA DURA RARE Surreal 50s ABSTRACT
For auction is a very large pietra dura by Richard blow. The picture itself measures 10 inches x 6 1/4 inches. The frame measures 13 inches x 9 1/4 inches. This was purchased in the 1950s and is in excellent condition. No chips or scratches or crack whatsoever. It is dated 1956 on the reverse and it even has it's original price tag still on the back! I had the wire hanger installed on the reverse on the frame and had the nails that held the pietra dura in the frame removed(the nails were old and some were loose) I had them replaced with archival pins. So now the pietra dura is secure in the frame and the wire hanger is much more efficient for hanging. The installation of the pins and the wire hanger were done by a professional framer. The inlaid stones are exqusitely crafted without cracks, nicks or chips. The gilded metal finish on the cherub-like figure and the drip disc below the candle holder have an aged patina and is noticeably worn as seen in the photographs but otherwise shows no damage. This is a beautiful Mid Century Pietra Dura inlaid stone plaque signed Fantechi. Created in Florence. Depicts four beautiful fish(made of several marbles. Malachite and lapis lazuli) swimming through a kelp forest and reef. Notice how brilliantly the artist uses the stone to create the seaweed and capture the expression in the eyes. The pietra dura was applied on top of the slate by the artist which give a 3-D fish tank effect. Overall excellent vintage condition. Frame measures 8 inches by 5.5 inches. Substantial piece.
