The fan is Austrian with Alencon Lace trim. In a gilt wood shadowbox frame with a pale blue linen lining. This is a larger sized fan, in frame measuring 34" long, 21.5 high and 2 deep. Alencon lace or point d'Alencon is a needle lace that originated in Alencon, France. It is sometimes called the Queen of lace. Lace making began in Alencon during the 16th century and the local industry was rapidly expanded during the reign of Louis XIV by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, who established a Royal Workshop in the town to produce lace in the Venetian style in 1665. The purpose of establishing this workshop was to reduce the French court's dependence on expensive foreign imports. The local lacemakers soon modified the Venetian technique and Alencon emerged as a unique style around 1675. Antique French or Hunt Allen Satin Fan, Painted, Circa 1890s
I'm not sure whether this is a French fan or from the U.S. Hunt Allen Company. Either way it was a charming fan once upon a time. I love the mottled brown ribbon bow on the right guard- trying to blend in with the mottled brown sticks and guards- interesting pattern. The silk leaf is a little stained with age on the creases and the back shows the stains more but they don't have to show. This fan is in average/good condition. The last two photos show the writing on the back(I hope you can read it) One says"Lillie" and the other says"Remember Xmas Eve 1892 and Never Forget the 6th of March 1893" Intriguing? The painting is not signed. Just a couple of pretty birds and a butterfly with flowers and leaves below them. It looks to me like the washer is in bone and the loop is brass.

Antique Painted Hand Fan, Signed I. Stoudez, Circa 1880
This huge fan needs alot of loving! The gouache painting in the middle of the fan. By fan artist, I. Stoudez, is absolutely adorable. The three putti are playing various musical instruments- look at those beautiful faces! The white mother of pearl guards and sticks are beautiful, decorated with gold leaf, except the left guard is broken(photo 5)some glue could take care of that) and there had been some repairs on the central sticks. It's the leaf that shows it's age. I see lots of perfume stains and there are small holes and splits on some parts of the leaf. Above the putti on the right are three blobs of stain. I think I highlighted all the defects in the photos. There are mother of pearl washers and a lovely brass loop. The back has been reinforced with a gauze backing by a professional conservator to keep the fan from ripping more. ... moreThis fan needs lots of TLC. Description This Vintage Laced Hand Painted Venice Scene Fan measures 17.5" inches when expanded and is 9.5" inches in height. The vintage fan is surrounded by a white laced border. The design colors are predominately white and gold. The handles are made of plastic. The hand painted scenery appears to be located in Venice on the canal. It is a very ... morebusy scene; however. The beauty and design of the fan brings tranquility to it. As mentioned earlier the vintage decorative fan is in great condition. There is no sign of wear and tear on this fan. He particularly enjoyed collecting vintage Native American turquoise jewelry. Silverware, etc. In 1995 he purchased this vintage piece at an estate auction in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Antique Black & Gold Hand Fan, Circa 1900
This is a very unusual fan- haven't seen one like it. The black silk leaf is in perfect condition. Decorated with gold spangles. The sticks are wood, painted gold. There are round wooden circles on top of the leaf, matching the design on the lower sticks. The washer is MOP, the loop is brass, and the black and gold tassel is really pathetic, but I left it in. If you want to keep it, that's fine. The only problem(besides the tassel) is that one of the round circles on top(in the middle of the fan- see photo 4) has been glued. The fan measures 8-1/2" long and 15" wide when open.

Working Antique A.C. Gilbert 'Polar Cub' Electric Fan Circa 1920s
Here's a classy looking little beauty from the roaring 1920s! This Polar Cub electric fan was manufactured by the A.C. Gilbert company- the company that brought the world the Erector set! This little fan only stands 11 inches tall but it's not lacking in power! It runs smoothly and moves a great deal of air and it's rated to run on AC or DC(a handy feature in the early days of electrical providers) It's powerful enough that it may need a rubber pad or heavy base to keep it from going too far. It still has it's original twisted cloth cord which looks to be in good condition though I cannot guarantee it lasting forever being as it's over 75 years old. French Hand Painted Fan Bone Staves Framed in Shadow Box Circa 1800 Pouteret
Up for auction we have a beautiful French hand painted fan framed in a shadow box. The bone staves show signs of gold gilt and the fan itself has sequins through out. It looks to be a scene where a couple is walking through the woods together. It is hard to make out but is signed Pouteret. The fan is very detailed. It measures 8" by 14" It comes framed in a gold gilt shadow box frame that measures 16" by 21" This piece is ready to enjoy and display. Antique Large Printed Hand Fan w/"Middle Ages" Men & Women, Circa 1890
This large fan could possibly be a Lauronce fan but it is not signed. Possibly made at his fan company after his death- his name was not put on their fans after his death. This is a large brown fan with wooden sticks and guards. The leaf is in excellent condition but the sticks are slightly scuffed and a little worse for wear. They aren't broken though and the fan works perfectly. The leaf is printed with a"middle ages" theme. It is slightly faded- probably from age. There is a brass loop attached. It measures 14" long and 26" wide when open- it is big!

Antique Hand Fan, Painted Birds, Circa `1895
I love these birds! They are so beautifully painted and very colorful. The wooden sticks and guards are also in good condition. The only flaw is that the base of the right guard stick and the stick next to it have been repaired by a conservator so that the fan can be used perfectly. This does not detract from this fabulous fan. The back is plain and it hardly has any stains or spots on it. It measures 13-1/2" long by 24" wide. It has bone washers and a brass loop.

Antique Spanish Hand Fan, 2-Sided Paintings, Litho & Painted, Circa 1860
This is a really lovely Spanish hand fan. Wonderfully carved and pierced wooden sticks and guards. The right guard has a oval mirror in a gold-tone metal frame. At the bottom of the sticks is a MOP guard front and back with a MOP washer. The loop is brass. This is a 2-sided fan with different scenes on both sides. They were lithographed and painted. I think. The fan measures 10-1/2"long by 20" wide. The box it came in leaves much to be desired but it protects the fan, which is most important. I showed the label, which is very colorful.

Antique Painted Hand Fan, Circa 1895, Bone Sticks
This fan is large- measures 13-3/4" long by 26" wide. The gouache painting of the birds on a branch is wonderful. It is signed but I can't read the signature. It ends with"iz" The fan had stains on the inner folds but it really doesn't detract from the birds. The celluloid sticks and guards are in great condition. There is a brass loop and white stones in the rivet.

Beautiful lace fan with gauze inserts with puttis painted in gouache. There are some stains where the gauze was glued to the shoulder of the sticks but they don't detract from the fan. The gold MOP sticks are gorgeous with gold MOP washers and a brass loop. Printed inside the loop it says- S. Levy 41 Avenue De L'Opera. I don't think the fan is signed. It measures 12-3/4" long and is 24" wide- a large fan!

Fabulous Antique Lace Hand Fan, French, Signed, Circa 1895
This fan is simply gorgeous. The paintings in gouache of puttis frolicking with a light green background is lovely. It is signed A. Ras- I can't read the last name- sorry) The signature is in the right hand painting. For some reason. Ebay won't accept my photo of the signature- said the resolution was not big enough. The MOP sticks are beautiful. Decorated with gold leaf design. The loop is brass and there are two little light green stones on the rivet. I've never seen these type of stones so I can't tell you what they are but they go so well with the painting background. I had the gauze painting sections reinforced with gauze on the back of the fan by a conservator because the silk sections were starting to split in the center section. Antique Art Nouveau Hand Fan, Purple Flowers, Bone Sticks & Guards, Circa 1900
This is a beautiful hand fan with purple flowers painted all over and down onto the bone sticks. The right guard is also painted. The washers are MOP and the loop is brass. The silk had started to split in a couple of places so I had a conservator line the back of the fan with gauze. The fan is 9-1/2" long and 17-1/2 wide.

Antique Art Nouveau Hand Fan, Fontage, Birds, Signed, Circa 1900
Tbis is an adorable fontage Art Nouveau hand fan with light brown celluloid sticks and guards. The loop is brass. Across the top of the fan are gold sequins. There is a split down the middle of the fan so I had a conservator put a gauze backing on the back of the fan to secure the split. It is signed by Petit Galaux(I can't read the signature very well- maybe you'll have better luck) The fan measures from 6" to 9" in the middle. It measures 11-1/2" across.

It is in excellent ... moreantique museum quality condition in my opinion. I see very minimal wear. See all the photos provided. The fan measures approx. 18" widest x 10" tallest. Overall framed size is 21" widest x 14" tallest x 2" deep The wide sticks are made of glistening carved and gilded mother of pearl. Special Notation: This fan is not all the way open in this frame. It appears that there are 4 more folds that are not spread out. Most likely to accommodate the size of the frame. One fold in the middle, and 3 folds at the right end side of the fan. I did not disturb the framing, and am presuming that perhaps it is signed and dated on the right side, as most are, however cannot be seen as framed. The fan is hand painted with an exquisite and very intricately detailed scene. This fan is somewhere around 200 years old! Just Amazing! A genuinely RARE find! Antique French Sequined Black Silk & Blonde Horn Hand Fan, Circa 1800-1849
This is an adorable little fan with a small tear on the upper right next to the guard. Needs to be re-glued to the guard. The sticks and guards are inlaid with cloute. With a floral design. The left guardstick has some rough edges that might have been a break in the past that had been repaired- it's very hard to see. The leaf has gold colored sequins and spangles. It measures 9-1/2" long. The fan used to be displayed in a frame as the horn sticks have bent(see last photo) It can still be opened easily, but it can be reframed. Sorry about the shadow covering the left half of the fan- it is all one color- no fading or anything.
