The main body of this inkstone was made of rosewood(the black part) On the up surface. It was pasted with a layer of bamboo coat. On the surface of the bamboo coat it was pasted with bamboo branch. The trunk of the bamboo was made of rosewood. The leaves were made of nephrite jade. Bamboo carving in China has a long history dated back to Tang dynasty. It reached its summit during Ming dynasty. This piece was carved through Zhu Huang technique. It used the thin inner yellow coat of bamboo to paste onto various woods. Such as rosewood and boxwood. The inner yellow coat must be boiled, dried and pressed before using. Sometimes for art demand, the artist have to paste two or three layers of bamboo inner yellow ... morecoat. Pair Antique Japanese Bronze Vases Meiji w/ Gold Leaf & 10k Inlay Japan Floral
Beautiful pair of small Japanese bronze vases from the Meiji period between 1868-1912. This is a true pair as the design on both vases are unique. They have an embossed and incused leaf and fruit design done in mixed metals with gold leaf and 10k gold inlay. I acid tested the gold inlay and it tests good for at least 10k gold. I didn't use a stronger acid to check if it was higher than 10k because I didn't want to take a chance of the acid leaving a mark. These are beautifully executed with very nice detail. I like the way the artist made the leaves look a little bug eaten like they would be in nature instead of making them perfect. Vases are 4" tall and weigh approximately 1lb for the pair. Nanking Porcelain Pinyin Nanjing. Chinese blue-and-white porcelain made for export during the Qing dynasty(especially in the reign of Kangxi, 1661–1722) at Jingdezhen. It was shipped to Europe in great quantity from the port of Nanking(Nanjing) as a result, Western dealers in the 19th century used the city’s name when referring to the porcelain. Though the porcelain was made for export, the shapes and decoration were mostly from Chinese traditions. The porcelain varied in quality; the glaze could become very gray and the decoration was often rudimentary. Pair of 1896 Birmingham Cobalt LIned Sterling Master Salts
Nice pair of Birmingham 1896 sterling silver and cobalt lined master salts. Makers mark overstamped by another silversmith. Solid sterling pedestal base large double handled salts. 4" long th both handles. 1 7/8" wide x 2 1/4" high. 2.6 troy ounces of 92.5% silver alone. Original cobalt glass inserts. One insert with a small top edge glass flea bite, and; to be honest the liners do not exactly form fit the sterling, but they do appear to be the originals. Sterling interiors of the salt have salt caused corrosion from not removing the unused salt after use, but no exterior damage and/or discoloration visible with the glass inserted in the holders. These are two victorian cane chairs for sale. As the photos show. One is in good condition, with only issue being a section of the cane seating that has become stretched out. Still quite comfortable and stable. The other chair needs to be completely remade. It has been painted black. And the cane seating is completely ripped. It also may need to be sanded, since the wood has some sun damage, and some slight splintering had just started to occur.
