I think that the samples themselves could be cleaned up quite nicely with an upholstery cleaner. The metal binding& the staples that affix the little tags to each sample are rusty. Therefore there are rust marks/stains on the fabric throughout the book. Condition of samples: there are some rough spots, stains, and some of the outer stitching is coming apart on a few. One cleaned up really well and most the marks in the photo's actually came off, the second one with the chip has some light scratches and another smaller chip in the center as can be seen in the photo's. The paper insulators are new. The vertical wires are also new. And cloth-covered. Nice. I show 60W clear appliance-sized bulbs. And think these look very well. Originally, people would have likely used carbon-filament bulbs. Available still, these look about the same as what I show, but are way higher in price and way lower in wattage. The set retains all its essential components. Including the very distinctive finials, socket rings, and chains. And. Of course, it’s really nice having a matched pair. Chinese in origin, with glass eys and carved bone? teeth. Each mask has a different design but both have the image of an elder man with headdress. Large tassels on either side and two dragons atop. Purchased as part of a larger estate from a couple who apparently purchased them overseas during the 1950's. Each measures approximately 26 x 17 cm(10 1/2" x 6 1/2" no markings evident.
