Wootz Karud 18thC Dagger, no Khanjar, Kard,Pesh,Katar,Tulwar,Jambiya,or Jambia
This in a very unique" Karud" dagger from the Pesh Kabz family. It's rarity is because it is made entirely one piece of high quality fine Wootz. Normally a wootz blade of this type has an abrupt angle attaching a non wootz"T" section. A closer look reveals a rounded slope meeting the“T” and along the top of the blade all of the same material. It is thought these daggers come from areas North and West of Afghanistan. Even the tang is of wootz. Tangs are made without the usual backstrap seen on others in The Pesh Kabz family daggers. This is the second and the smallest one I've owned it was made for an adult fighter there is a full 3 inch finger span between the abbreviated rails. The color differences allow very detailed views of how it was forged including a tempering line. Despite the quality of the steels it has minimal decorations. It displays aggressive sharpening giving the first impression of salvaging a broken blade. Which it could be. But I feel it was likely made in the smaller Nimcha size for compact defense.
