Virabhadra Bronze Shrine Plaque – Indian Bronze - Hindu
These shrine plaques have been used by the rural village population of India as shrines inside their homes and local village temples and have been frequently worshipped during puja ceremonies. Thick cast bronze with excellent smooth darkened patina. It shows a multi-armed Virabhadra with bearded fierce face. Topped by a cobra head. The figure is flanked by a smaller Parvati Figure and her father Daksha. Age: late 18th to early 19th century. Size: Height = 19.5 cm; width = 13.5 cm; depth = 2 cm. Antique bronze Indian hindu temple bell Lakshmi 8 inch tall 30 inch chain hook
The figure on the bell is clearly Lakshmi. She's holding a lotus in each top hand and has a palm down and palm up with her lower hands. This appears to be made from bronze. It is heavy, dark color, slightly magnetic and most likely bronze because they'd want it to be water/ corrosion proof if used outside. Look at the photos carefully. It's been kept in a closet, in a box for most of its life- even when my grandparents owned it. The chain length is about 30 inches. There is a nice hook at the top end. Depicting a Shiivite Warrior(Warrior of the god Shiva) as is indicated by the three stripes on the forehead. The bronze is very old and makes its age quite evident. He also added that this piece may have come from an idol or puppet of sorts. And may have been used in a Shrine. The head measures 6.75 inches by 5.5 inches and has a two loops. Antique Hindi Hindu Indian Bronze Figurine Horse Rider & Guide Maybe Cast Iron?
Unfortunately I have more questions that answers on this piece. It has all the symbols of cast iron with what appears to be rust. But on the other hand it looks a lot like old bronze. I have read that some older primitive bronze pieces have some iron present therefore causing rust. That very well may be the case here. There is also a tag present with writing that seems consistent in Hindi culture. Also has a lead medallion cast on the tag string. This probably was added for identification purposes but not absolutely sure. I welcome any info that can be offered. The piece also appears to have remnants of dirt in the crevasses that suggest it may have been dug up. Like I said. More questions than answers. Therefore I am going to start the bid at a fairly low price as compared to other less ornate pieces and set a buy it now at a higher price.

ANTIQUE INDIAN BRONZE HINDU GAJA-LAKSHMI ALTAR-PIECE LAMP 16TH-18TH C. This is for an antique Indian bronze Hindu Gaja-Lakshmi altar-piece lamp. Circa 16th-18th century. Made of solid bronze. Of throne form, the altar-piece is decorated with a raised back, cast in relief on either side to depict the Hindu deity Lakshmi, flanked on either side by an elephant, seated below a kirttimukha mask, within a flaming aureole. In this form,the female deity Lakshmi flanked by elephants, is known as"Gaja-Lakshmi" The central circular bowl has a pouring lip to the front, a gadrooned border with two leaf shaped arms, on a cylindrical spreading support, decorated with beaded borders. In terms of use, this piece was likely placed on an altar, the bowl either intended as a lamp for burning ghee, or for placing water for purification. The relief decoration ... morehas traces of of puja paste, showing that this object had been used for ritual purpose, connecting the devotee with the deity. The bronze has a genuine old patina, and is likely anything upto around 500 years old. In comparision to other bronzes from India, this piece is probably from Kerala, on the south west Indian coast. This piece has a very good weight at 595 grams. It measures 14.1 cm in height, 9.7 cm in width, and 11.4 cm in length. There is a near identical Gaja-Lakshmi lamp in the Gettysburg Museum of Asian Art collection) The condition is generally excellent. Here I have a beautiful Large Decorative Figurine of Kali. The Hundu Deity She dances in a ring of flames. With one leg supported by a child. There is nice fine detailing to the base and rest of the piece and all fingers and toes are present. This is a solid piece weighing in at just under 4.6 kilogrammes. The figure stands 14 inches tall Apart from some old paint spots I can see no damage. This came from a'well travelled' estate and I fell in love with her Circa Early 20th Century or ealier I have not cleaned. I prefer the patina as it is. Script Related To Deity, Vishnu or Shiva, Bengal, India, 20 Grams Navadwip. Nadia District, West Bengal: This is an antique(18th or 19th century going by other similar examples) cast bronze sectarian body stamps(chhapp) In use by Vishnu Devotees(gokul sampradaya) and others. They are dipped into a past prepared of sandalwood, then pressed on the skin. some paste residue is still present on this stamp. This square sectarian body stamp has scripts related to a deity. Usually Vishnu or Shiva. This is made by the lost wax process. Which starts with the fabrication of an openwork wax wire model, from which the stamp was then cast in brass. On the reverse, opposite the ... moreface, a supporting, bracing structure was formed that terminated in a handle, pierced by a hole. This makes it possible to link together with a ring set of different stamps, the symbols on them chosen according to the sect preference. It is customary for many Vaishnavite. I believe it is a bronze- judging by the way the metal has aged. The condition of the piece is good there are no obvious damage. Although it may have been recently cleaned. A very special Indian shiva casting in panchaloha 5 metals. Copper silver gold iron and zink, panchaloha is a mixed alloy used to make only the most high quality and class deitys, it does not gain patina like other brass or bronze and has a colour and iridescence of its own, showing a slight rainbow affect in some light and in other resembling a yellow gold, it is also very hard and heavy due to the iron content within it and rings like a bell when struck, sounds very like a singing bowl! panchaloha is considered a very auspicious metal by Hindus and only wealthy shrines hold deitys made in this metal as they are very hard to find and expensive in India, the exact deity I am not certain of but I believe him to be shiva in one of his many forms, whoever he is the casting is very well executed with great chased detail and expression and still ... moreretains some of the original red pigment in areas around the creases and detail on the piece. A very fine example and a rare one. size is 5 ins height. 4 ins width, weight around 1500 grams, very heavy for size and very solid. A powerful high quality Indian lost-wax bronze figure of the Hindu Goddess Durga. Consort of Shiva. She is sitting relaxed in lalitsana with her vahana(vehicle) A camel, beside her right thigh and two human heads(or skulls) directly below her left leg. It is quite unusual to see Durga with only two arms and even more unusual to see her with a camel as vahana. The presence of the camel strongly suggests this piece was made in Karnataka(or possibly Rajasthan) as she is traditionally shown with a tiger in most other parts of India. This piece is very heavy for the size and made of high quality bronze. Many of the old Indian bronzes were made from recycled family valuables.
