Which involves creating complicated geometric forms with tiny pieces, in this case of faux ivory(in its original colour, but also dyed red and green) and pewter, on a wooden background, which in this case is of sandalwood. Description Up for Auction I have this lovely Anglo Indian Glove Box decorated in the classic Sadeli Mosaic design. The box is paired with a lovely little pair of leather gloves. Also from the late 19th Century. The box is inlaid with ebony. Ivory, stained wood and pewter, the ebony and ivory are also used as a border for the mosaic which then borders a beautiful hand carved Sandalwood centerpiece. The right carved figure has a little damage, please inspect pictures. The box is in good condition though there are age related signs of minor damage in places. There is a small piece of ebony missing from the left hand side of the front lid. Near the corner- pictured. There are a few little pieces of mosaic missing but no larger areas or anything drastic. The box has the typical Anglo Indian features with Ivory, stained wood and pewter inlay finished with carved Sandalwood bird/floral scenes to each side and the lid. This is simply a beautiful little thing. The box is in excellent condition with only very minor signs of its age. There is no damage or missing pieces at all. Height cm. 5, Width cm. 10. This long rectangular shaped lidded box has a flat wooden base with inlaid borders around the edges and with relief carved panels mounted centrally to each side. ANTIQUE INDIAN SANDALWOOD SEWING BOX. 19TH CENTURY Good quality Indian Sewing Box with mosaic inlay. Dates from the 19th century. It has a fitted sewing tray which is decorated with Sadeli mosaic. It has a framed lift out mirror beneath the cover which comes out to reveal a velvet lined compartment. The interior is superb and in excellent condition with lovely sadeli mosaic covers. The small square cover at the front centre is missing. There are two spools. A thimble and seven inlaid covers. Condition: has some splits and losses on the outside in places. I have included plenty of photos of every part of the box so you can see the details. Size 29 cm wide. 20 cm depth. Height 8 cm. Weight 1773 grams. ANTIQUE ANGLO INDIAN SADELI MOSAIC SANDALWOOD CARD CASE c1850 A nice early example of an Anglo Indian sandalwood card case with sadeli mosaic veneer. Later examples display larger mosaic but this case has finely detailed smaller mosaic patterning dating it to circa 1850. The case is in lovely condition with no missing mosaic and the pewter inlay remains slightly raised confirming that it has not been cleaned or restored in any way. Inside the case there is an old newspaper cutting from 1936 of an obituary for John Lyell Middleton so this may well have been passed on as an inheritance upon his death. For sale is an Anglo-Indian carved wooden sheesham rectangular box with Sadeli lining. The carved wood depicts floral decoration. The pictures show the damage to the box very clearly. However. The damage to the lining doesn't detract from the lovely display value of the piece. It is 7cm in height and 29cm in width.
