OLD ANTIQUE RAJASTANI INDIAN PAINTED SHIELD NO TULWAR SHAMSHIR
Being offered is a nice old antique Indian painted shield from Rajastan. This shield is a good sized shield. Measuring 18 3/4" in diameter. The shield is leather over metal with the leather painted is unusual orange, green and pinkish colors. The colors contrast well with the black leather background and the painting has developed a nice patina. The scenes are interesting with tigers very prominent. One tiger by himself, one tiger on the trunk of an elephant(interesting that the elephant has spots down its belly) a tiger taking down a wild boar and then the tiger is fighting some unknown mythological kind of beast. The center with a jewel adorned face. Nice copper bosses show good age and patina. The back of the shield with a leather pad with leather straps. The back of the shield is a bit dirty and could be cleaned up. You can see that ... moreit was painted red at one time but now has dirt and grime covering a good bit of it. A very fine and rare Indian Shamshir tulwar GOLD hilted antique sword sabre

I ship internationally from Australia A rare opportunity to obtain a very fine original gold hilted Tulwar with minimal wear and its blade in its original bright polish with only very minor light localised staining. The hilt remains in exceptional condition throughout with only minor age wear. The sword measures 91cms long in its scabbard. Out it is 89cms long with a blade length of 77cms. The floral gold work is of a very high quality and is raised well above the steel hilt. All the gold work is also engraved and where most flowers are concerned. It is double layered in gold and engraved. The hilt is complete with its articulated lanyard ring. The blade is rare in that it remains it its original ... morebright polish. Much akin to the way Japanese Katana are presented and the blade seen on the blue scabbard Central Asian/Sindh sabre s222 in the Gallery page. The bright polish is further enhanced by thin frosted strip on the blade that sits just in front of the langet. This strip shows polished diagonal lines with groups of the same lines present within the polished surface under the langet. The scabbard is original to the sword but is worn with age. Wear that has protected this fine investment quality sword. The base of the scabbard retains its original pierced and gold applied fitting with floral motifs being those that are seen on the hilt. antique 19thc indian persian sabre sword tulwar shamshir marked relic british
I can tell you very little about this sword except that it is old and likely military. Likely made for indian regiment serving with colonial british forces but i am not certain od anything regarding it, the hilt grip is made from hardwood which appears teak to me but also i am not certain of that, the blade is however scarf welded and the join is just past the 2nd mark furthest down towards the tip of the blade, i did etch and repolish after and it did show a clear join that i know to be a scarf weld, the front end of the blade is certainly laminated steel and shows a damascus pattern when etched, this does not show in my pics because after etching i gave the sword a basic clean and basic polish with 800 grit paper and water, there are some interesting marks on the blade and it also has a typical yelmen as seen on many indian indo persian ... moreand afghan swords, the knuckle guard is marked with a number 5 which makes me think this sword is British military indian from the colonial wars when many indian soldiers served with the brits, there is active rust apparent but i am sure someone out there would like this old relic for restoration, rare or not i do not know anything about but maybe someone could shed some light on this old sword and where it is from and what date. size is. 35-3/4 ins total length, blade 30-1/2 ins. This is an old Tulwar or Talwar sword likely from the 1800’s or possibly earlier? The overall length is 34-3/4” The blade length is about 29-1/4” At the base the blade 1-1/4” wide and ¼” thick. This sword is solid and not ornate with a very sharp edge. It was meant for battle and not for show or parades. The blade is hand forged with a few visible fold marks. The blade is smooth with some areas of pitting(please see the pictures) The steel handle is in good condition with a nice patina to it. The handle has no movement and is quite solid. It appears to have its original tar or pitch that hardens like cement to hold the blade in. There is not a scabbard with this sword. This is a fine example of the framed Bichwa Dagger(Scorpion) This one is skillfully engraved in a wonderful floral pattern. The hilt is brass with the padding still intact.It has two double curved blades riveted to the hilt. The piece is in excellent condition for it"s age. The blades are 7 inches long 12 inches from tip to tip.I wonder if this piece was made for a woman because of the motif? Anyway a deadly weapon for sure.
