Possibly of an olive wood,fruit wood or similar type of wood being extremely smooth and tactile to the hand. Black ebony/ stained wood ends with olive/ fruit wood veneers. The wood shows finely carved lines. Curves and insets into which some of the faux ivory decoration sits so as to keep the same line. Bands of stained faux ivory and studs to the base edges and bands of white faux ivory with beautiful contrasting black decoration to the edges and bottoms of the both the sliding book ends along with the most amazing carved and pierced faux ivory ... morefloral decorationwith oval panels bearing contrasting black painted/ penned figures which I believe to be Indian Gods or mythological figures. This stunningly beautiful decoration also manages to very cleverly depict a butterfly with wings outstretched to the centre. White/ silver metal hinges to both ends. Believed to date to caround c1880- 1900 or thereabouts. The book slide is mainly in excellent condition but does have some minor faults due to it's. Age, use and fragility of the amazing fretwork faux ivory decoration. This being, the loss of some of the faux ivory studs( approx 9) and some small pieces of the fretwork missing, fine cracks to olive/ fruit wood veneer to the inside of one end, some very slight play to the hinges and to one of the slides ends there are two very tiny shallow snips. Both extending slides are working and with the many pictures giving a good representation of condition and where it can be judged on it's own merit, so please do check these out carefully if intending to bid. Marked& signed to the base, and dating to the early 20th century. The vase. Which sits on a circular pedestal foot, is globular in form with a flared neck and has a carved decoration with a hand enamelled ground. The vase has six bands of decoration: the upper bands with a scrolling floral/ foliate design with alternating pink& pale green enamel grounds(the flowers on the green bands with tiny clear red enamel highlights) and the bottom band with an acanthus type decoration and a light blue enamel ground. The base of the vase has the dot pricked monogram H.K and the dot pricked MADE IN BTSH INDIA/ 1054.C Condition is very good. With no dents and only ... morethe expected rubbing/ crazing to the enamel. The vase stands approx 7 1/2" 19cm tall. And is rather heavy for it's size at around 0.65 Kg.

AMAZING 19C ANGLO INDIAN CARVED EBONIZED WORK BOX W SANDALWOOD INTERIOR
I am pleased to present here for auction this fabulous large 19c Anglo Indian stationary work box which is relief carved in ebonized hardwood along with a beautiful sandalwood fitted interior all in pristine quality condition. This large and impressive work box was produced in India during the British occupation around the c1860s to the c1870s and was purchased most likely by one of the British military to bring or send back home as this is definitely not an average box picked up at one of the outside bazaars but a possibly one that was special ordered. This large and impressive box has been saturated completely to the outside with relief carving depicting continuous archways. Wide point on point boarders, floral and leaf designs and the top has been done in a wonderful design of the same but with a slightly raised section and a central roundel ... morewith a large open flower head with yet more floral designs inside the large leaves and center area. The construction is of the highest order with the inside showing thick hardwood slabs used for all four sides and top using wide sturdy inlaid corner brackets for strength along with three heavy duty brass hinges and a lid prop for each side. The lock assembly is also large and heavy duty and is in fine working condition with its original fancy key. The total interior and all appointments are of high quality solid panels of sandalwood with nicely treated edges with the interior lid having a letter storage area along with a lift out organized tray, then the bottom is once again lined with high quality sandalwood. Condition is as good as it gets with very little surface wear having all brass hardware in fine working condition with the heavy lid closing tight and square locking perfectly making this Anglo Indian'CEYLONESE' box a real keeper. Description Up for Auction I have this lovely Anglo Indian Glove Box decorated in the classic Sadeli Mosaic design. The box is paired with a lovely little pair of leather gloves. Also from the late 19th Century. The box is inlaid with ebony. Ivory, stained wood and pewter, the ebony and ivory are also used as a border for the mosaic which then borders a beautiful hand carved Sandalwood centerpiece. The right carved figure has a little damage, please inspect pictures. The box is in good condition though there are age related signs of minor damage in places. There is a small piece of ebony missing from the left hand side of the front lid. Near the corner- pictured. There are a few little pieces of mosaic missing but no larger areas or anything drastic. Vintage Anglo Indian Hand Carved Wooden Box Birds Floral Swags Mythical Creature
This is a wonderful box with very skilled intricate carving. The lid depicts stylised fantasy mythical creatures trailing lotus plants framed by a delicate micro mosaic inlaid boarder with a black outside trim. All four sides contain even more of this incredible workmanship with all four sides having bird carvings and flora. The colour has become a beautiful medium brown with a well deserved aged surface patina from years of handling and has survived brilliantly. Approx Measurements: L 29cm x W 11cm x D 6.5cm Due to the age of this wonderful box it is showing signs of wear and tear from over the years. The wooden carving on the lid and the sides of the box is in good condition. None is damaged or missing. Some of the parquetry on the lid is worn/missing. I am pleased to present here for auction this fabulous mid 19c Anglo Indian carved sandalwood box executed in deep relief. This great box was produced in Hoshiarpur. India during the British Raj period around c1850 or so and was most likely brought back home to England from India by one of the officers in the British Military as that is where I purchased it from his estate. This is a wonderful box in a good size with very skilled carving with the top lid depicting lion, tiger and deer shown posed under a giant tree. All four sides contain even more of this incredible workmanship being just amazing at this quality level. The inside shows the very thick planks used for this box along with hinges and ... morelock assembly but I don't find a working key but the lock is a good one and should not be a problem in finding a working key. Pair of Vintage Anglo Indian Ebony Hand Carved Elephant Bookends, Superb Quality
On offer is this lovely pair of bookends. They are both in really good condition overall. A few light chips and scuffs to the ends but certainly nothing which detracts from the overall look. They have a rectangular base shape and upward end- this is in the shape of a book with line detailing to represent the spine. On to the bases are two elephant figures complete with their original toe nails and tusks. They have been hand carved from ebony and have such a nice quality well made look to them. The base sections are joined together by one large dovetail joint and the elephants have been screwed on from the underside of the base. No marks to indicate a maker but they would've been made in India. Circa 1930's- 40's for the tourist market. Description This is an antique late 1800s Anglo-Indian chair with a lot of detailed carving. It has carved figures on the finials and figural elephants for the 2 front legs. There is detailed carving on every side of the chair so it took a lot of skill to make this. It measures 42 inches in height. 17 inch seat height, 19 inches across the front of the seat, 17 inches in depth. The elephant would have had white tusks but 3 of them are missing, you could easily carve a few pieces of small wood and paint them white to replace them. It was probably made in India in the 1880s and exported by the English to the United States. There would have been a small crest on the top of the chair which you can see a small hole where it would have fit into it. A Beautiful Ornately Carved Anglo Indian Colonial Table dating to around 1880. It has a stunning pierced border with foliage. Birds and monkeys. The top tilts. The top is absolutely amazing, the work and detail are incredible. It measures 31 inches across the top. The height of the table is 29 inches. The base is stunning carved with birds and cobras wrapped around the pedestal and the feet are dragons or perhaps stylized tigers? For a table that was hand made over 100 years ago it is in very good antique condition. There are a couple of scratches on the top but I have not waxed this piece and it will look better polished. There is also a small loss( pictured) to the pierced skirt, this looks as old as the table and is hardly noticeable. The height of the table is 29 inches. Height cm. 5, Width cm. 10. This long rectangular shaped lidded box has a flat wooden base with inlaid borders around the edges and with relief carved panels mounted centrally to each side. Museum quality circa 1850 A superb example of aMysorecarved work. The box which is sandalwood. Is carved all the way round, with parrots sitting in alcoves amidst densely carved stylized foliage. The moulding and borders are also carved in minute repetitive formal ... moredesigns. The feet are carved claws. These boxes were made in the South of India in the area ofMysore. They were famous for there temple carvings and considered to be the finest of there type. Exactly the same design of box was use at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the The art treasure Exhibition of 1857. When new is would have been fitted. There is a very similar box from the same area and carver in the Victor and Albert museum which was a present to Edward the V11. The lock is missing I do have an old lock that could be fitted with work I have not fitted it because the buyer my wish to find the correct one. Box’s from the time are very rare and should not be confused with much cruder examples from the 20 th century. 34x20x17 cm weighs 3Kg. This is post free to anywhere on this plant. Beautiful Hand Carved Anglo Indian early 20th century shelf. It was probably designed as a deity shelf or a turban shelf. It is hand carved on hardwood with stylish and intricate grapes and vines& foliage. It measures 21 inches high.13 inches wide and the shelf is 6.5 inches deep at the largest point of the curve. The entire shelf folds flat and once opened the shelf itself can be firmly secured with nail catch beneath. There are 3 ornately carved wooden brac kets supporting the shelf. It is a lovely unusual example of Anglo Indian origin. It would look beautiful with any simple item-even a candle. There are some minimal losses around the perimeter(see pics) The centre is perfect and the shelf and brackets are in lovely condition. It is a fabulous item and will suit a Bohemian/ Eastern home.

A Carved Anglo Indian Trifold Writing Slope from Ceylon This Anglo Indian box is constructed from solid ebony the top sides front and back are profusely carved, the carving has a floral entwined design, the top opens to reveal the white dot decoration on the inside of the top, there are a pair of lidded compartment for inkwells and two more lidded compartments and a circular ruler all with the white dot decoration, the writing surfaces have voids below for paper work, under the inkwell section is a panel when removed hides three secret drawers this carving and white dot decoration comes from the Galle district from Ceylon this box was made in the mid nineteenth there is some shrinkage cracks on the box this is the nature of the timber 41cm x 22cm x 14cm.
