SUPERB 18/19thC INDIAN BRONZE MULTI ARMED DEITY STOOD ON MYTHICAL BEAST / LION
A superb and interesting antique Indian bronze multi armed deity. Dating from the 18th/ 19th century. The deity has four arms and is holding what looks like a snake in one hand and an ear of maize in another. The other two hands are holding items which I can't quite make out. The deity is stood on top of a mythical beast/ lion/ dog which is decorated with scrolls and circular patterns. It measures 7 1/2" high x 6" long x 2" wide. There is an area of miscasting around the head. See photo otherwise in good antique condition with a fabulous verdigris patination. Here I have a beautiful Large Decorative Figurine of Kali. The Hundu Deity She dances in a ring of flames. With one leg supported by a child. There is nice fine detailing to the base and rest of the piece and all fingers and toes are present. This is a solid piece weighing in at just under 4.6 kilogrammes. Up for auction is a beautiful Indian or Southeast Asian bronze winged deity. I believe the deity is Garuda- the Hindu mount of Vishnu. Garuda is the messenger between the gods and men. This bronze is 5" tall including the base. 5" wingspan, and is 3 1/2" tall(bronze itself) This bronze shows excellent workmanship- it has a beautiful amount of detail. The top part of the bronze has a slightly reddish cast-possibly it was previously painted. Or a different type of metal on top. Or the bronze has aged differently from the bottom portion of the bell. A very special Indian shiva casting in panchaloha 5 metals. Copper silver gold iron and zink, panchaloha is a mixed alloy used to make only the most high quality and class deitys, it does not gain patina like other brass or bronze and has a colour and iridescence of its own, showing a slight rainbow affect in some light and in other resembling a yellow gold, it is also very hard and heavy due to the iron content within it and rings like a bell when struck, sounds very like a singing bowl! panchaloha is considered a very auspicious metal by Hindus and only wealthy shrines hold deitys made in this metal as they are very hard to find and expensive in India, the exact deity I am not certain of but I believe him to be shiva in one of his many forms, whoever he is the casting is very well executed with great chased detail and expression and still ... moreretains some of the original red pigment in areas around the creases and detail on the piece. A very fine example and a rare one. size is 5 ins height. 4 ins width, weight around 1500 grams, very heavy for size and very solid. Beautiful Hand Carved Anglo Indian early 20th century shelf. It was probably designed as a deity shelf or a turban shelf. It is hand carved on hardwood with stylish and intricate grapes and vines& foliage. It measures 21 inches high.13 inches wide and the shelf is 6.5 inches deep at the largest point of the curve. The entire shelf folds flat and once opened the shelf itself can be firmly secured with nail catch beneath. There are 3 ornately carved wooden brac kets supporting the shelf. It is a lovely unusual example of Anglo Indian origin. It would look beautiful with any simple item-even a candle. There are some minimal losses around the perimeter(see pics) The centre is perfect and the shelf and brackets are in lovely condition. It is a fabulous item and will suit a Bohemian/ Eastern home.

A beautiful piece with good green and brown Patina. Crafted from what I think is bronze. It has a hollow interior. When you hold the piece up to the light and look inside you can see that there are quite a few pin holes where the metal has worn through(see last picture) but this is not seen from the outside. ANTIQUE 19thC INDIAN MINIATURE WATERCOLOUR GOUACHE PAINTING ON MICA. HINDU DEITY Tanjore Painting of Krishna. Smarta, Avatar, Hindu God Description: An extremely fine quality early-mid 19th Century opaque watercolour or gouache miniature painting on mica of a Hundu Deity. Possibly Krishna Kaliyadamana, shown battling with the Kaliya serpent holding a flower in his right hand. The detail in the painting is exceptional. And originates from the South Indian region of Thanjavur. It is on mica. Contained under glass with a card back, and dates to circa 1820. History of Tanjore: Tanjore painting is a classical South Indian painting style. Which was inaugurated from the town of Thanjavur(Tanjore in English) and spread across the adjoining Tamil country. Tanjore paintings began to be heavily influenced by Western style after the stationing of a British ... moregarrison in Thanjavur in 1773. During the Anglo-Mysore Wars of 1767-99. This resulted in a large body of works painted by Indian artists in a mixed Anglo-Indian style which would appeal to the employees of the various East India Companies at the time. Common subjects for these paintings were Gods and Goddesses. The British Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum have an enviable collection of such paintings. Dimensions: Width: 10.4 cm or 4 1/8 inches Height: 15.5 cm or 6 inches Condition: In good antique condition. Showing some minor deterioration to the mica in the upper left corner, visible to the edges, and some minor craqueuer to the paint layer.
