Crafted with entirely solid mahogany primary woods chosen for their brilliant grain displays. Both table top surfaces are full planks of mahogany, deeply patinated with wonderful oxidization dancing beneath the warm glowing and quite early finish, lifting on hand forged hinges with original screws. A single drawer slides easily in and out of the frame, hand dovetailed front and back with what appears to be the original pierced brass hardware, all framed inside of cockbead molding that surrounds the drawer. The table rests over square marlboro legs, chamfered on the interior corner to lighten the overall appearance of the legs, these terminating in molded feet. The back leg swings over a knuckle joint on a very thick and heavy oak gate leg, appearing to be red oak, pinned to the leg with double pegs locking the tenon-mortise joint. Double pegs are also visible at both corners of the back of the table, and when the leg opens it reveals the clean dovetailed frame, these quite distinctive and perfectly matching the drawer. This is a wonderful find for the serious collector of Pennsylvania furniture. As well as the decorator looking for a highly versatile and absolutely gorgeous functional work of art. Working for any number of design settings, as a serving table in the dining room, a hallway table with a chair on either side, as a small desk in the library or as a functional card table, this piece is incredibly sturdy and is meant to be used. With a deep and glowing patina in the well preserved finish, stunning full boards of mahogany and the elegance highlighted in the fretwork and chamfered molded legs, this is a very fine piece for any formal home. This is a Victorian 54-inch-wide roll-top desk of solid black walnut with molded panels and carved handles. That dates from the 1880 era. ... moreIt has been completely stripped, re-glued, refinished, the canvas roll has been all re-canvassed, and we had to re-fabricate one handle(bet you can’t tell which one when you see the desk! Any molding damaged was replaced, any panels that were damaged were replaced, any wood damaged or ink-stained was replaced– we do one heck of a job when we go through a desk! The interior has burl walnut pencil trays and cubby drawers, and the original letter holders on both sides of the desk. We’ve even replaced the felt insert with the original factory dark green color. It has an applied beveled edge base, and a finished off back. We always put a reproduction roll-top lock in, which will be done before shipping. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 36 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface from the floor, and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. The lock mechanism prevents the drawers from opening when the roll-top is down. It is solid and sturdy in construction. It is in great original found condition. The wood finish is original wth a great patina. The top surface slants at a angle so that whatever is displayed is easily noticable. This fine 19th century desk features its original brass Eastlake hardware with the key working all the locks on the drawers. The large flat desk top has vintage green felt on the writing surface with a center drawer below with divided compartments and four locking drawers on each side of the knee hole area. This desk is equally lovely on all of its sides so therefore could be a free standing desk in the middle of a room or office. There is an old slide lock which seams to have been added a very long time ago to keep the Slant Front door closed. On the inside there are 16 various size compartments and one small drawer. All drawers are dovetailed. The writing area has a leather surface but is worn with some rips to it and should be replaced. SOLID WALNUT W/ BURL WALNUT FRONT ANTIQUE WALL MOUNTED DESK CABINET 1880'S-1890'S FOLD OUT SHELVES& WRITING SURFACE It really is hard to know where to start with this Antique piece. It is a gorgeous piece of furniture! The solid Walnut is in wonderful condition given the age of this piece. This is truly Unique. I have spent at least a couple of hours trying to research this piece or find one like it-I have not been able to find another like it! It is made of Solid Walnut. The wood has aged and seasoned beautifully. It was a true Craftsman that created this piece. The front is a Burl Walnut. Inside. There are five separate shelves. Two are removable. Three are attached to an arm and they swing forward and out. The desk surface has a track where two other arms come out and support the surface. These are of brass. The surface of ... morethe writing area is covered with velvet that was the covering of choice during that era. It is in Good to Very Good condition for the age. It does have some spots and stains on it. This is bordered with a veneer that I am not sure was wood or paper. It has peeled off in a couple of places, but is still in generally good condition. There are doors on each side of the piece that open up to reveal two small shelves on each side. These are the only thing that may not be original, but they may. They are a curved triangle. They do need to be glued in-I would say back in, but they do not look as if they were glued originally. I believe they were cut to fit very snugly without glue, but they would need to be glued to use with anything that has weight to it. The cabinet measures appx. 28" in width. 26" in height, 6" deep. The fold out writing surface comes out appx. 18" It weighs about 25 lbs. We will package it VERY carefully and would send it insured where applicable.
