Meubles RINCK" is an entity specializing in high end furniture inside the RINCK group. The desk is 52" wide x 27" deep x 30 1/2" high. The underside is stamped with the maker's mark by M. Rinck and the seal of"UNION NATle INDUSTRIE FRANCAISES DE L'AMEUBLEMENT" The 3 drawers all lock with a deadbolt and each have their own key. The two outside drawers measure 10 1/2" wide X 20" deep X 3" high with the middle drawer measuring 15 1/2" wide X 21" deep X 3" high. This desk was my father's pride and joy. My earliest memories of it date back to the 1970s when we lived in NYC and it was in his private study. It is in excellent condition with signs of use on the burgundy leather working area on top which also has a couple of stains. A competent furniture restorer can easily replace this leather piece but I would order a replacement directly from Rinck to preserve the desk's heritage. The following information was supplied by Rinck in reply to my recent email inquiry regarding the desk's provenance: Dear Sir, I can confirm that desk is coming from our company and Parisian work shop. I can not be more precise about the year. Because all client's files are archived, but: It is a Louis XV style desk, traditionally manufactured with a solid oak structure, with mortaises and tenons joined, hand dovetail joins for the drawers, black lacquered finishing, ornate with sand casted, chiseled, and ormolu set of bronze. The round UNIFA stamp on the underside of the desk is there to assure the desk has respectability and was constructed to the standards of the Professional Union. The UNIFA stamp also confirms your desk is from the period between 1960 and 1980. Because after it would have been stamped"Groupement ébénisterie d'art" As Rinck at this period was only working on

The top half of the desk has two tambour-covered sections containing three pigeon holes and a small drawer. There is also a locked center section. Sorry- no key! The lower part has a fold out. Hinged writing surface atop two full-sized drawers. Drawers are mahogany, with ash as the secondary wood. Dovetailed joints and wonderful nautical-themed brass pulls. The entire piece is supported by slender, tapered square legs. Piece most likely dates from the early 20th century. A beautiful addition to any collection! Overall. Colonial Federal Empire Secretary Desk Flame Mahogany with Provenance c 1800's This is a very rare and magnificent Colonial Federal secretray writing desk. With provenance, from Greenwich, CT. featuring matchbook flame mahogany throughout, with numerous drawers, a fold out leather top writing area, a secret compartment underneath, two paneled doors below with cabinet space, and original bracket feet and casters. Found in one of the drawers. Is a photocopy of an index card stating the provenance of this desk as quoted below: This desk was owned by one Mr. Sellick of Greenwich. Conn. who owned and ran the Sellick house on the point for many years. In 1908, it was brought to Milwaukee by Charlotte Sellick Foole who then claimed it to be more than one hundred years old. Mahogany with inlaid satinwood banding, the finish is very fine with a few mars and wear at the edges. Remarkably good for its age, this furniture has warm antique patina. Sometimes called a"butler's" desk because they were used by the head butler for household accounts and records. This desk was used with a stool or standing. Looking like a chest of drawers. Family lore has it that this was made in 1840 but I don't know for sure. This was my father's father and. Given to me but I'm headed to. South America and none of our children want it. All the drawers and top are joined. With dovetails at the corners. All the drawer bottoms have chamfered. Ends that fit into a tight track in the drawer. Sides. I'm guessing that drawer facewood. Is cherry(mahogany? and hinder parts of drawers made from boxwood. All the drawers fit precisely. The large drawers have grooves worn in them. From riding over guidance rails in the front of. The drawer entry points(see pics) It looks like. This was by design to accommodate the heavy. Drawers(which are prob mahogany. Not cherry) Veneer is poor in several areas. Esp the slope top front. It consists of separate upper and lower cases with a fold over slanted writing surface with the following features& characteristics: The outstanding mahogany finish with crotch mahogany veneer is in excellent condition. Viewed from front or sides. The entire piece has a stunning, rich and warm patina. The upper bookcase and desk features a handsome projecting molded crown/cornice with a flat top. The double glazed panel bookcase doors feature individually paned window glass. All but two of these beautiful old wavy glass panes are original. This listing is for a gorgeous late 1950s Kaplan Furniture Company Beacon Hill Federal style inlaid mahogany secretary desk with bookcase top. The desk is in three sections and has three brass finials over the bookcase top. Tambour doors and a flip top writing surface. It comes with it's original bill of sale, original keys for both the drawers and bookcase and old photos of the desk. It is being offered for sale for the first time since it's original purchase back in 1959. The desk measures 80" tall and 37.25" wide. It measures 18.75" deep when the writing surface is flipped closed and 26.75" deep when the writing surface is opened. The mahogany has faded a bit over the decades. This is noticable on the writing surface where a blotter has covered the original color as well as on the bottom of the front part of ... morethe writing surface that would have rested on the pull-out supports. Both of these areas are visible in the photos. If you use a blotter and leave the desk open, neither of these will be visible. Otherwise, the piece is in very good vintage condition with a minor scratch here and there and one water ring on one of the shelves inside the bookcase. Additional photos are below. Below is the wood writing surface that measures W 49 1/2" x 15" deep from the edge of the doors. Below are 5 drawers with locks. It retains all the original brass knobs, locks, and brass escutcheons. The glass stands out in this piece, as it is all original, and has a good, wavy appeal. There is much attention to detail with a very interesting corner bracket which is contiguous with the apron.
