CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING FINE ENGLISH GEORGIAN MAHOGANY KNEEHOLE ... moreDESK. MID 18TH CENTURY C. 1740-60 Exceptional state of preservation- retaining original brasses and untouched feet Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown to give a sense of scale Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably well preserved English Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Desk from the third quarter of the 18th century. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk. Just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware adorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. Protecting drawers below from saw dust and other debris as it op

The second thing that strikes you about this desk is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this desk chose some very good quality timbers for the job. Fine Antique 18th Century American Chippendale Mahogany Slant Front Desk c.1770
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for a Chippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with ... morebrass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

Concentrated Wood Dye Powder - DARK ANTIQUE WALNUT 50g
Dark- Antique Walnut Dye Powder 50 gram( As a guide 25g of dye powder will make about 1 pint of full strength wood dye this will cover a large area approx 4- 8 square metres) Simply mix the dye powder with ordinary meths( Meths is not included! We have managed to obtain a limited quantity of very highly concentrated spirit soluble wood dye powder. That is used in the manufacture of commercial sold spirit wood dyes and is also used to colour wax polish, Shellac, French Polish etc. You can make your own spirit wood dye that are every bit as good as branded products for a fraction of the cost. This listing is for one dye in the colour as shown above. All the dye colours are intermixable to make almost any other colour. The Dye colours we have listed in our Ebay shop are: Red. Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Black, Bismark Brown, Victorian Brown(reddish ... morebrown) Georgian Brown(rich brown) English Oak, Light Brown Oak, Medium Brown Oak, Dark Brown Oak, Tudor Oak(very dark brown) American Red Oak, Antique Pine, Mahogany, Ebony, Walnut. We sometimes have other dye colours listed in our Ebay Shop. Wood Dye/ Stain This dye powder is concentrated and extremely powerful. A small amount goes a long way. Use it to make wood dye by simply putting a small amount of dye to some methylated spirits in a glass jar. do not use a plastic jar, as some plastics melt) Give the mixture a stir and a shake and its ready to use. I would recommend adding 5% shellac with the dye as this acts as a binder agent. We have small quantities of shellac powder listed in our Ebay shop) 25g of dye powder will make about a pint of full strength wood dye. French Polish Add a pinch to French polish to give a depth of colour. Wax Polish Add to polish to add colour or change a shade. We are regularly asked questions about types and suitability of wood dyes. Because there is bewildering choice of dyes available and some dyes are more suitable than others for particular tasks. I have written below some notes that hopefully may be of interest, but

English George III Chippendale Antique Secretary Bookcase Desk 18th Century 1780
English George III Chippendale Bookcase Secretary Desk Late 18th Century with Modern Alterations. C. 1780-1800 Item# 130001KSH27 This is a very attractive English George III Chippendale Antique Secretary Desk. Originally crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century and altered during the first quarter of the 20th Century. It was probably a more plain version of the rather fine piece we see today. Altered to suit the appetite for high-style pieces during the first quarter of the 20th Century. Crafted of mahogany veneers with pine and oak secondaries, the case features two over three graduated drawers with replaced brasses over bold oversized bracket feet. The slant front drops over original hinges to rest on extending lopers, revealing a large mahogany writing surface with six document drawers over two long-thin drawers flanked on either ... moreside by an inverted graduated stack of drawers- this is a rather unusual feature, the graduation going from largest on the top to smallest on the bottom. It is crafted in two parts, the upper bookcase with adjustable shelves and glazed glass doors under a projecting crown and dentil molding. A visually interesting and desirable piece. Though not suited for collector tastes due to the alterations, this is a wonderful period secretary desk with a deep patination throughout giving it fine character. It is a striking piece that will drastically improve the overall presentation of any formal setting- offered at a fraction of the price a pure piece would bring on the open market. This is a fine acquisition for interior decorators or those looking for authentic appeal in an affordable antique secretary desk. Measurements: 39" wide(at feet) x 24" deep(closed) 36 1/4" deep(opened) Writing surface measures 22 3/4" deep x 35 1/2" wide with 32" from the ground to the top of the writing surface Base is 41 3/8" high to top of molding Bookcase is 38 3/8" high and 11 3/4" deep Total height of the case is 79 1/4" Condition Report: With moder

American Federal Walnut Antique Slant-Front Desk, Mid-Atlantic States c. 1790
American Federal Walnut Slant Front Desk. Mid-Atlantic States With satinwood inlays over splayed French feet; c. 1790-1810 Item# 130102EWP01 This is a very fine American Federal Period Slant Front Desk of Mid-Atlantic origin. Crafted in solid walnut c. 1790-1810. The lid is a highly figured single board(14 1/4" in horizontal depth) flanked by lipped cleats pinned on either end with an applied molded front lip. It lowers over original forged iron hinges to rest on walnut lopers, revealing eight small drawers over eight valanced pigeon-hole slots flanking a tombstone-door with channel-molded document drawers on either side of it. The scroll cut form of each valance over the pigeon-holes perfectly matches the form of the slot dividers. The interior drawers have numerous inscriptions: each has a"WW" which are intertwined on some ... moredrawers as"X/ one inscribed"Small.amd 74.957 NDE" The interior door opens to reveal a pair of drawers over a large cubby, one of the drawers inscribed: J C(quite clear) Reuben. Or possibly" J C Lieutenant" and dated" January 25th 1787" the 17 of 1787 is quite unclear. But after carefully examining it we are pretty sure that is what is inscribed. The interior cubby is an ingenious bit of craftsmanship- by pulling out a nail from the middle backboard. That backboard quickly is removed from the case; this reveals a natural knot in the pine board behind the cubby-hole with two tiny tenons that drop into the desk; by lifting on this knot, the tenons lift and allow the entire cubby to slide forward out of the desk. It is a gorgeous and flawlessly crafted box of solid walnut with dovetail joinery, the back board lifting out of the cubby-box from rabbets along either side, revealing a pair of hidden drawers inside. It is so well crafted and hidden that while after a close examination, the careful observer might suspect the presence of hidden drawers, actually being able to find these requires access to the backboards. The four graduated drawers that l

American Chippendale Slant Front Desk, Boston or Salem Massachusetts c. 1770-90
American Chippendale Slant Front Desk over Scroll Cut Bracket Feet Salem or Boston. Massachusetts c. 1770-90 Item# 120201PUP05 Presenting some of the best of the American Chippendale Period. This fine slant front desk is crafted of solid Cuban Mahogany, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flanking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers. The centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon ... moreholes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers, each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The back of the case has all original backboards. Though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly feature more intense scalloping- however,

Original Antique 1753 Chippendale Engraving Plans & Specs Desk & Bookcase LXXVII
Description As described in the title and shown on the 10 photos and 2 scans(most accurate as to color and texture) This is an original engraving from a rather large volume that Thomas Chippendale published in 1754. We have no idea how many editions or printings were created from these rather well known plates. It was last matted and framed in the 1970's but the frame was damaged and we tossed it. We tested the mat and back and they are both acid neutral. The back is in good condition with the impressions of framing nails around the edges as would be expected. The mat is bright and clean without aging or damage so we are sending the print still mounted with two framer's strips on the back and the mat loose. The mat measures about 19 3/8" x 24 3/8" with an opening approx. 9 1/2" x 14 1/2" which shows and frames ... morethe plate impression. The print is on laid paper as it should be and is generally bright and clean with some ink fading and spotting. Outer area foxing or toning, several tiny pin holes and other expected wrinkles and marks. The bottom portion shows the remnants of binding and is bumped and injured as shown in the photos below. However, once the print is matted and framed, it presents quite nicely. The paper measures approx. 11" x 18" and the plate impression measures approx. 8 5/8" x 13 7/8" The upper right corner is stamped"LXXVII. and the name of furniture piece is"Desk& Bookcase. The bottom is marked"T. Chippendale inv. et del. Pub. according to act of Parliam. 1753. and"T. Muller sculp. There are many small numbers and marks that are in the engraving of the desk and bookcase- don't know if these are specs. or refer to plans. Please note that it was difficult for the camera to produce accurate colors and textures of the mat and print but we were able to scan small portions of both. These do show both color and texture accurately and they are the first two images below. WE PROMISE TO: Safely pack your item(s) using both new and r

English George III Chippendale Mahogany Slant Front Desk, 18th Century c. 1780
Fine English George III Chippendale Mahogany Slant Front Desk Late 18th Century Item# 130106KKP08 This is a very fine work of precision. Laudable in every regard as a work of a highly skilled craftsman. The first feat was the selection of boards that would truly set this desk apart- it is an understatement to describe the golden and brilliant flow of mahogany from the slant lid through the top as simply brilliant. It is pure and breathtaking. The paired boards are literally superior to almost every desk we have handled in their visual qualities: the excited swirls of each board flow into one another with a symmetry that is not simply mirrored or"match-booked" but is carefully planned and took great consideration on the part of the craftsman. Effect like this is rare and shows great taste and means. The rest of the case has a warm"plum ... morepudding" appearance to the mahogany. The graduated drawer facades intentionally restrained in order to highlight the stunning gilt-bronze hardware on each drawer. These original pieces are works of art, exceedingly expensive even at the time of production. Flanking the drawers are the drawer slides, these with dangling hand forged gilt bronze pulls. Each of these parts is framed in thin applied cockbead molding; on the drawers, this molding wraps around the hand dovetailed front joints. The sides of the case are solid planks of mahogany. Each a fine and broad selection- the left side is a single plank, the right side is two planks of very close grain formations. The back of the case is undisturbed with even color, the entire case resting over original bracket feet of robust and appropriate breadth to match the overall air of the case. Pieces of this quality were crafted for patrons of exceptional means and taste. In it's day. This slant front desk would have been considered an outstanding piece; today it retains the same dynamic appeal it's first customer enjoyed while it was on the floor of the shop. Finished in a high luster french polish, protecting th

As well as folks I know who are very knowledgable of antiques, that the desk is late 1700s and perhaps early 1800s. but definitely very early. This desk is pure and correct in its first finish and obviously a cleaned surface. The case of this desk has a wonderful robust dovetailed single plank base made of old growth native pine and a very unique and telling pine tooled molding that accents its base. 18th CENTURY BOSTON CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY DESK W/ BRACKET BASE & DOVETAILED CASE
18th CENTURY BOSTON CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY DESK WITH AMPHITHEATRE INTERIOR With our compliments we are pleased to offer you this wonderful 18th Century Circa 1760's Boston solid Cuban mahogany slant lid desk with fabulous fully finished amphitheater interior. Dovetailed case and bracket base. This fine old desk is in its first finish and untouched surface. It is made from entirely old growth solid wide planks of the finest Cuban mahogany available to the colonial Boston furniture makers. It is adorned with period brass bing wing hardwares and has been professionally maintained over the years with period accuracy maintaining its integrity. 250 year old pine foundations with 175 pounds of solid dense mahogany on top of it gives way. The attention it has received was very expensive museum grade maintenance. It has four graduated molded drawers ... moreand original locks. The desks' interior is simply fabulous and the finish was carefully left absolutely alone. The lid suffered a chip when someone forced the lock about a century ago. Great thought was given in leaving it alone. We agree. If you do not we can have our woodworker give it professional splicing around the lid chip. It is truly a grand old lady that has been treated with great respect. We did not receive a key but our locksmith can match one very simply. This is a wonderful last half of the 18th Century straight Boston period Chippendale desk. We are offering it a very fair price for the truly important piece of Colonial American history that this desk truly is. The desk measures 40 3/4" long, 21" wide and 43 1/4" tall. English George II Antique Kneehole Desk Dressing Table, 18th Century c. 1740-60
Fine English Chippendale Mahogany Kneehole Desk c. 1740-60 Originality preserved throughout in the hardware and feet- Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown is offered elsewhere in our collection Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably preserved English Chippendale Period Kneehole Desk. Circa 1740-50. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk, just solid boards of full grain mahogany. Appearing to have never ... morebeen removed from the piece. This is a unique addition for the craftsman to make, as many of these knee hole desks are without such innovations. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. Protecting drawers below from saw dust and other debris as it opens and closes. The first few inches are solid mahog
CHIPPENDALE PERIOD SOLID TIGER MAPLE DESK-CIRCA 1770 DEERFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS
FABULOUS WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS CIRCA 1770 CHIPPENDALE PERIOD SOLID TIGER MAPLE DESK WITH COMPLETELY DOVETAILED CASE With our sheer delight and are both humbled and proud to offer you this fabulous circa 1770 American Revolutionary War era Chippendale period solid tiger maple desk attributed to the Pioneer Valley of Western. Massachusetts(likely Deerfield, Mass) The awesome desk has a completely dovetailed case. Its top case, its old growth single width pine plank base board and even its bracket base all around are all entirely dovetailed and make the desk identifiable by its construction technique provenance notwithstanding. It has fabulous original back panels and white pine chamfered drawer panels all, of course, on wonderfully dovetailed drawers. The desk has received some professional museum grade restoration to its base structural supports. ... moreThis is very common among heavy Chippendale period desks that had original pine support elements. Pine is a secondary wood, degrades as a"softwood" much faster than hardwoods and pieces that have belonged to multigenerational families typically have their pieces professionally maintained to keep its structural integrity. One back edge of the desk has a very small dry rot spot and one was addressed on the other edge. We would be happy to have our woodworker insert a small splice or you can leave it alone like we prefer to do. Again not at all unusual in 18th Century pieces. This comes from a part of the United States that in the 18th Century was directly in the path of major British Army campaigns advancing through Massachusetts and light hit and run engagements by the Colonial Militia. Its a wonder it survived at all. It is adorned with period Chippendale brasses that appear correct and original to the piece. It has all its original locks in tact and a interior that is both wonderful and befitting the desk with great moldings, drawers, document cubbies, a door with two smaller drawers behind it and two tiny hidden drawers concealed within the moldings. Scarce 1790 - 1810 Inlaid American Mahogany Hepplewhite Tambour Desk NR
Seller: Alley-Antiques DESCRIPTION: Our opening bid is our reserve. Nice authentic American Hepplewhite Tambour desk(Tambor desk) This piece dates to the 1790-1810 period. Circa 1800. Probably New England in origin(maybe Salem. Massachusetts as that is where I was told it was purchased from years ago) Mahogany and mahogany veneer. Nice pencil inlay on the drawers. Beautiful French style splayed feet. Hand Dovetailed drawers(pic#8) It is 2 pieces that are correct for each other. Below the upper piece you can see hand dovetailing(pic#7) It is solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. with pencil inlays and a band of birds-eye-maple inlay on the top, bottom, and front of flip desk.It is a beautiful piece. Old oxidized back(pic#6) The bottom consists of 3 bookmatched drawers. The upper part has 2 tambour doors and a central door. Behind the central ... moredoor is 2 drawers and cubby hole. Behind the tambours ar 2 drawers and cubby holes. The cubbies are painted inside a sort of teal color. Condition is fair for age. This piece is over 200 years old. No breaks on the legs. The tambours open and close smoothly. 1 tambour door has crack on a piece of wood that was re-glued(door work smoothly) Drawers open and close smoothly. It is structurally sound. The finish is an old re-finish. The re-finish is quite worn and probably should be refinished again. Drawer pulls are replaced and lower drawer pull is not the exact same as others. I would replace the pulls with Hepplewhite style pulls. Inside central upper door the upper drawer is missing its pull(pic#3) There are age cracks in the side. The writing surface felt is an older replacement. The central upper door has a strip on veneer loss at the very top(pic#2) The central upper drawer has old tape residue from someone taping it shut years ago(pic#2) On the legs there are areas where the finish is light probably from surface moister(pic#9 shows some) There are some losses to the veneer mostly noticed on the bottom(pic 10) There is a crack and losses to the wr
