The desk is from the Herman Miller Company’s Executive Office Group 8000 Series and is model 8865. The left pedestal has two drawers, an upper storage drawer and a lower file drawer. The right side is a 3-drawer pedestal. The"floating" walnut veneer desktop measures 84 inches long and 36 inches wide, 1-1/4 inch thick, and has a height of 29.5 inches. The attached privacy screen is in excellent condition. The desk is marked on two of the drawer handles with the Herman Miller name and logo, and has labels inside of two drawers that designate it as a George Nelson design. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and can be locked. There are 3 keys for the 2 locks. There are some small scratches, drill holes, tiny areas of veneer loss, an area of white paint, and areas of light fading. Holes were drilled into the top front of each pedestal to install plastic brackets to hold electric cords and two holes were drilled into the bottom of each pedestal. Overall this Herman Miller/George Nelson walnut desk is in very good vintage condition. See Photos) This desk easily disassembles for transport. The top can be removed with 6 bolts and the two pedestals are attached to the modesty screen with a few screws. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Antique Traveler's Folding Walnut Writing Desk/ Box/ Secretary* All Original This is a late 19th century portable. Or traveling, writing desk. It is 13 3/4" wide, 8 3/4" deep when closed, and 4" high closed. It is made of nicely figured walnut with brass reinforcements. Everything is completely original. The exterior finish has very fine crazing which is not obvious- you must view it at an acute angle in the light- and VERY few of the minor marks these things usually pick up over a century. There is no real damage or dings. I do not have the key. The hinges are completely solid. The interior wood finish is in nearly the same condition but has about a half dozen wear spots. The velvet pad is original. It is split across the boxe's hinge but I believe it may have been made that way- there in no fraying- and the tab to ... morelift the bottom section is missing. The only real problem is that the velvet, which acts as the hinge for the two compartment lids, is loose from the frame of the box's lid as seen in the fourth pic; this is easily repaired. The compartments are clean and include the original dust. There are two ink bottles- one with its original pewter collar and lid and the other is missing the pewter pieces. The lid for the pen/pencil compartment has ink spilled on it(seen in the pics) but this should clean off if you know how to do that. Vintage Furniture: Wood Desk- 1940's- Walnut- 2 ½ x 5 Ft. This neat old desk is all wood with solid walnut and walnut veneers. I got it from an antique store almost 40 years ago. It’s extremely functional and very cool looking. The only reason I am selling is that we are redecorating after moving to a new house and need something completely different. The top measures 30" 2' 6" deep. 58" 4" 10" wide, and 29" tall. There is an eased edge strip all around the top. The sides and back extend down about 23" where they meet the leg pedestals. It’s a full wrap around design in back. There is a leg pedestal on each side and all four feet are adjustable. The drawers are dove tailed with wood pulls about 5" long. There is one double size drawer for files plus five single size drawers. All the drawers ... morehave moveable inserts to create different sized storage spaces, plus one pencil tray with several compartments. There are two slide out writing extension boards(one on each side) with small metal pulls. There is probably less wear than would be expected for it’s age. But normal signs of age and use are unavoidable. There are some ancient marks that were there when I got it, and a few more dings of my own along the way. The biggest condition issue is damage from the movers during the relocation mentioned above. a few pieces of veneer are missing from the lower right side. This is all easily reparable when I had an expert look at it, and I absolutely would have done so except for the redecorating previously mentioned. Instead, I’ll just price it on the low side and let the new owner take care of things as they wish. I can’t really ship this due to size and weight. But you can pick it up in Bean Station, Tennessee(less than 1 hour NE of Knoxville and 1 hour from the Smoky Mountains. a nice place to visit if you haven’t been here! This is a handcrafted miniature desk. Made in the 1:12 scale. It has working drawers. It is made out of walnut, and has a dark stain and a satin finish coat, either varnish or polyurethane, and hand painted gold still life design. It has turned legs. It is a replica of a desk offered by Ethan Allen in the eighties. It is 3 3/8" tall, 2 3/4" wide, and 1 1/2" deep. It is signed and dated(Marie Solli, 1982) It is a collector's item, not intended for a toy dollhouse, as it is delicate and the tiny drawers could pose a choking hazard.It is over 30 years old, but was part of a collection and is in perfect condition. Gorgeous solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1820-1860 I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth, yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt. There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing. I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 250 year old black walnut. The period solid walnut hand carved drawer pulls are from a Victorian dresser The harp shaped end is gorgeous and rare. As you can easily see with its cone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base. The slant top is fixed ... morein position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer lock mechanisms are missing.I restored all the drawers. Carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage. The desk is finished on all sides.It is a showpiece from all angles. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood.left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. Antique Mahogany Desk w/ Inlaid Walnut, Tambour Doors, Hepplewhite Style
This is beautiful and very intricate in detail; it is an early 1900's genuine mahogany Hepplewhite style tambour secretary desk. It has burled mahogany. And has a tooled leather top with ethereal gold leaf detailing. This desk features a warm reddish-brown finish, six open letter cubbies and one cubby with a door. There are three smaller drawers with dovetail joinery, oval brass pulls, and four square tapered fluted legs with caster feet. Recessed front tambour doors roll in from the sides to hide the letter cubbies and cabinet. The exquisite marquetry work includes ribbons and garlands, medallions, band inlay throughout and shield escutcheon. The main storage drawer is generous in size. The desk is about 30 inches wide. 40 inches high and 22 inches deep. I no longer have the key to the lock. Large mid century office desk made in USA 1963. 51 years ago, style is Florence Knoll. Desk is a Mad Men ringer with main unit and left sideboard for your IBM Selectric, or Apple Air laptop. The desk is a heavy unit with six oak drawers on teflon rollers, steel structure is strong with adjustable feet on each of six legs, two locking drawers with keys, righthand steno slide out board. The desk unit has detachable vanity panels, one side walnut, one side fabric. The desk has lived all its life with a glass top on main unit, walnut top is mint perfect. There is no badge. It is solid white oak with 5 locking drawers. And I have the key. It has been restored to a beautiful finish. The research places it at about in the 1930's. This is the only one I have seen. Antique French Renaissance Revival Library Walnut Table Desk 1800's
This is a genuine solid walnut library table desk with a walnut veneer top. It was made between 1850-1899. And was used in the Druillard Library of Madison, Tn. I know the history of this library and of this desk because 4 generations of my family went to this school. This library was part of a private church school where you could start out in diapers in the nursery school building and continue through all of elementary, junior high,high school and 4 years of college in one school. The library was shared by all. It got the name Druillard from a lady whose name was Charlotte Druillard, who gave the money to the school for the library to built close to the turn of the last century-1900. She was the wife of the man who founded the famous Belmont College and University in Nashville. Both of my parents went to this school who met there and married. ... moreIn the mid 1970's the school thought the library building was too old and needed to be torn down. My father(who was very sentimental) purchased this table from the library. He immediately loaned it to the school alumni association to place in their entry way. It remained there until Oct.1985, when after my father's death, my mother asked for it back. She gave it to me for my home. I have used it as a desk in my home since 1985. It has been well taken care of and is in excellent condition. A quality made piece with two drawers across the front. Not a lot of wood carvings, but a beautiful design though a more simple elegant piece to look at that is also very practical. Large in scale and has a variety of potential uses. The measurements are: 54 1/2"long x 32" wide x 28" high. It is finished on all sides so it can be placed in the center of a room.There are two dovetailed drawers that go across the front of the table, that slide in and out easily. Black walnut with recessed paneling that is found throughout, including back, sides and knee hole. 14 drawers in all. 40 slot compartments for paper etc. and the lower section with one wide drawer above the kneehole. Fabulous original brass hardware Note: The lower right(two-drawers) are really one drawer sized for files. Etc. American origin. Circa late 19th century- early 20th century. Hallmark pen and pencil desk set in a medium dark wood engraved with a Tennyson quote and flying geese scene. The base is solid wood(walnut? with chrome pen/pencil rings on top and a cork pad on bottom. The Tennyson quote- to strive. To seek, to find. and the geese are engraved on the top left half. The bottom is stamped with the familiar Hallmark name. Base measures 9 3/4" wide by 3 1/4" deep by 7/8" tall. Pen and pencil are matching wood with chrome tips and chrome center bands marked"Hallmark/ Made in U.S.A. They're each 7" long and have retractable points(by turning the top barrels) Pencil has a small chrome identifier on top. Pen and pencil are in working order and excellent condition. The barrel tops turn smoothly to extend/retract the pen/lead. And the wood has no damage. Base has no chips, cracks, or nicks; ... morecorners and edges are excellent. Circa 1890 Victorian period antique Walnut Dings and dents to top Red leather Working drawers No key, The Victorian period of furniture making in England extended from 1837-1901 and created some lovely furniture pieces such as this antique writing desk. Made from a lovely dark walnut wood and covered with a red leather writing surface. This desk is quite the find! Two easily opening drawers provide some storage in this desk. They are constructed with hand cut dovetails which are a sign of authenticity and quality. Each drawer ... morefeatures a unique brass handle. Locks are present but there is no key. Four turned legs are connected via a lovely turned stretcher which adds beauty and stability to this antique writing desk. Four brass casters at the bottom provide the ability to roll the desk short distances. One of the more unusual and attractive feature of the desk are the quarter round accents on the sides of the desk. Just under the top. Fluted lines can be found on these accents, the drawers, and all over the legs and stretcher. This fluted line style was one of may used in the Victorian period. This desk was originally made in England around 1890 and is rated in good condition. It is sturdy and stable. There are numerous dings and dents throughout the top and drawer fronts of varying sizes. None of these are more than cosmetic and to most people they serve to add character to the antique writing desk. We have tried to include pictures that give a good sampling of these marks.
