Offered for sale is a beautiful desk or library table made by Charles Limbert ca. 1910. It is model#1162 and it measures 48"w x 30"d x 29 1/4"h. Constructed of gorgeous quartersawn oak. The desk is sturdy, strong, and heavy with no loose joints. Condition is excellent with what appears to be the original finish with an old overcoat. 2 Original Barber Brothers-Oak/Leather Mission dining/desk Chair-tags(1903-1911)
These were in my sister's collection. As far as I know. They are all original with oak wood, and the finish, leather seats and tacking on them, I think is all original. These chairs have partial tags on the bottom of the seats and I looked up the information and found they were made by the Barber Brothers Chair Co. which manufactured these from 1903-1911, with the main office in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1911 they merged to form the"Grand Rapids Bookcase and Chair Co. which later became Lifetime Furniture. Prior to forming their own companies, the brothers were involved with other Grand Rapids companies. The chairs are sturdy and don't wobble or seem loose. They measure 17 1/2" across front of seat and taper to 15" across back of seat. And 17" from front to back of seat. They are 18" from floor to top of ... moreseat, and 36 1/2" from floor to top of post on the back. From top of seat to top of back they are 19" The leather seats are coarse-grained leather hides, with exposed tacks. They seem to have been well-taken care of original chairs. This desk dates back to the early 1900's. It measures 32-1/2" wide x 39" tall(to the flat top of the desk) x 15" deep. It has a little paint splatter on the top and one side but you should be able to get it off. It does not have a key. Below is a file drawer with a front that tilts open and the adjustable pusher tilts back for easy access. Six shallow drawers were made for large wooden type and advertizing logos. VINTAGE QUARTER SAWN MISSION OAK DESK Exquisite Craftsmanship STICKLEY w/ Chair
This is an amazing. Vintage Mission oak desk. It is SOLID oak and every piece is quarter sawn to reveal it's incredible grain. While many desks from this ear are relatively plain, the details on this are fantastic(note the curved vertical slats on either side over the two sides; the bevelled side planks with the dowel that hold the legs- made of 3 different cuts of wood- in place; the tongue-in-groove top with 6 different cuts of wood) I bought this more than 20 years ago at a flea market in Rowley, MA from a man who had this in his family for generations and he completely refurbished it, so it is now in amazing condition. There are only the lightest of marks/scratches and you really need to look hard for them. The drawer is NOT original and was added afterwards. But matches they style perfectly. There is no maker's mark, but this ... moreis clearly a master carpenter's work. Dimensions: 44" long x 28" wide x 30" tall The top consists of 6 boards. All quarter sawn The four legs all comprise of 3 boards. Each held together by a dowel and the drawer connected has a beautiful, angled joint(see picture 6) In addition. I purchased a piece of glass for the top that is included in this auction. I have also included a quarter-sawn Mission oak chair that I refurbished to match the desk. NOTE: I am not a carpenter nor a restorationist. The chair has been refinished and is…adequate… but nowhere near the quality of the desk. I just won't need the chair once the desk is gone! Clearly. I would prefer a local buyer pick this up themselves. It's heavy, it's got a large piece of glass… If you want it shipped, I'll work with you for Atlas or another shipper to get it to you. We are pleased to offer this antique desk. This is a beautiful old desk dating to the early half of the 20th century. The desk is made of solid oak in the Mission. Arts& Crafts style. It is"Stickley" styled with a clean, simple design. The desk top is compromised of 2 planks which provide a generous work space. It has a single center drawer for pens, pencils, etc. Each side features two, open shelves for paper/file storage. The legs are simple and slightly supercede the height of the table top. The desk has wooden buttons which cover the screws/nails. It is in very good antique condition. There is a very slight bow on the top which is neither severe or distracting. There are some minor nicks and dings from use, but again, nothing too obvious or distracting. There is one screw cover that is missing on the back of the desk(see ... morephoto 10) The desk is sturdy and the screws can be tightened if they loosen. This is a beautiful piece of old furniture with a nice, Mission design. The desk measures 30" tall. It is 42" wide and 26" front to back. The knee height of the center section is 25.5" tall.
