For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. You will note that there is a small, insignificant scratch on glass in the lower corner of the right door which in no way impacts the beauty or integrity of the original wavy glass. The bottom slant front desk door of the Secretary is graced with luscious flame mahogany veneer, has a fancy brass key escutcheon along with an intact lock with working key. The mahogany would have probably been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when figured mahogany veneer became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. This is a very nice analog desk clock. Housed in what appears to be a mahogany-like box. The box is lined inside with dark green felt. And the clock piece flips out to rest on the box. ANTIQUE SLANT TOP SECRETARY DESK DROP LEAF STYLE SERPENTINE SHAPE FRONT BALL& CLAW FEET This is from the 1940s. It is sturdy. Made of solid wood- some or most of which I believe is mahogany. The desk has a dark stain finish even though some of the photos came out lighter because of the lighting when I took photos. There are antique brass finish handles and hardware on the drawers- one handle is missing. The traditional drop leaf desk/tray and its mechanisms work without problems. The two front legs are ball and claw style- both have some of the finish chipped off of them. Overall, the desk is heavy duty and in sturdy condition with minor wear and tear. Antique Ship Captain's Writing Desk Estate find from the home of a collector with with a New England family provenance. This is a large heavy Ship Captain's Traveling Writing Desk. It has decorative brass bound corners and edges, side handles, lock front and inscribed monogrammed plaque on top with the initials"JL" Inside there is a top surface piece that fits into the top with a small latch(the second latch is missing) Both the top and bottom inside pieces have crisscrossed ribbons on one side to hold paperwork. In the front is a rows of compartments- two small ones have lids and the center longer section has a curved wood lid with a handle. On the reverse side of this longer lid there is writing that says"James London August 1814" There is another name in the middle but I can't make it out. There is a Brass ... morepiece on the side that lifts up to hold the top of the desk up. The one on the other side is missing. Under that piece is a small brass dowel that when lifted out allows for a bottom drawer to be opened and pulled out- the drawer runs the length of the inside of the desk. Beautiful Mahogany Wood finish on the outside. In very good condition for the age. There are some small missing parts inside, but the piece can still function as a travel desk. Makes a beautiful display piece and collectible. Inside the desk was an early newspaper article about a Captain John Julius Guthrie who was the executive officer of the sloop of war Saratoga who captured a slave ship at the mouth of the Congo River in 1861. It says this was the last slaver captured by an American warship and the captain then resigned and entered the confederate service. The article is a letter to the newspaper written by the son of the captain and he points out that the slave ship was owned, manned and equipped in the city of Boston, Mass. It is possible that the desk was later used by this man, but I am not sure- it was left in the desk, and I can include it if the buyer is interested. Desk measures 20" long. 11&

The party that we acquired this from thought this was a Boston(i.e. Seymour) piece, because of the fine, English style cabinet work. This clock is labeled"MOONLITE" on the dial. The movement says"Made In U.S.A" There is no other identification on the clock. The case appears to be mahogany. The dial is black paper that has faded. And has luminous dots. The hands have been painted gold. The dial is not straight in the clock, and the hands are not aligned correctly. The clock runs when wound. But stops sometimes. This antique chair dates from c.1810. We believe the frame to be constructed from mahogany. Although please note that we are not 100% sure of the wood type. The chair would benefit from some restoration and from re-upholstery. It has lovely shaped back rails with pierced decoration, and is supported on square legs at the front and square swept legs at the back. The legs have chamfered inner edges and lower stretchers between. The chair is over-upholstered. Condition: Overall this chair does require some restoration. It is solid with only minimal movement in the joints. But it would benefit from being re-polished and re-upholstered. There is some wear, scuffing ... moreand fading to the woodwork and the seat is sunken, grubby and badly worn. There is some wood loss around the feet. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. Desk interior features four drawers, four upright drawers and another four cubbyhole compartments. Outside there is one wide center drawer, with two additional ones. It is in good. Constructed out of solid Mahogany from an unknown time and location. Originally purchased as a gift to my Grandmother from her Husband. My Grandfather, many, many years ago. This piece of furniture is in excellent condition and truly is a wonderful looking piece. A simple yet elegant design that easily coordinates well with many different décor styles. Display shelving is showcased by three beautiful glass front cabinets with their original curved glass windows and a gold gilding decorative trim. Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. Cracks or sections of gilding missing. There are a total of three shelves within the display window. Lower portion has pull-out secretary desk that has a working lock and key. Interior of desk area contains an inlaid leather desk pad with gilded(gold) detailing to writing area. Secretary area also holds ... moreone drawer and five shelves to organize your items within. Incredibly detailed hand carving on the drop down front as well as very nicely carved throughout the front. Claw feet legs. An appraiser from the Antiques Road Show stated it was an English piece from the early 1800s or late 1700s. However the scene looks like the men are possibly spanish. She stated that if the bookshelf that should be on top were there it would be worth around $5000, but as is it should be worth between $3,000& $4000. Really, very nice piece. I believe it is mahogany, but I'm not an expert on wood. The scene carved into the drop down piece appears to be soldiers on horses helping to corral women& children to get to safety. Fine Burl Mahogany Small Travel Writing Desk Decorative Cut Out Work Inside
Antique Burl Mahogany Travel Writing Desk Estate find from the home of a antique collector. This is a lovely burl mahogany wood travel writing desk. It has a beautiful patina and wood grain pattern. There is a monogrammed brass plaque on the top. Inside there is a top is some very nice cut out wood that has compartments to hold paper, etc. Behind the wood cutouts there is a light blue fabric which is partially missing in the middle. One of the small pieces of wood that acts as a divider is also not in place but I do have the loose piece of wood and will include it. Once opened. The bottom piece has a curved removable pen holder and two small sections possibly to hold ink wells. The bottom piece flips forward to reveal two writing surfaces, both of which lift up to reveal storage underneath. There is a lock on the front but I do not have a ... morekey. There is a crack in the frame of the upper writing surface but it is not loose. There are age cracks in the top(which is tight) and a wider one across the bottom that you can see in the picture of the bottom. There is also two pieces of the very narrow edge molding on the outside top, and one on the corner front bottom that you can see in the pictures. In spite of these age and use issues, this is still a beautiful decorative piece in a small size that would look great in many settings. Desk measures 14" long. 9.75" wide and 6" tall.
