1800's antique Victorian handmade wood bronze glass desk top inkwell pen holder
The is a stunningly rare antique handmade 19th century Victorian desk top inkwell/pen holder set. It is made with an abundance of intricate ornate detailing and very high quality. the base is beautifully routed and hand carved from wood. it is also nicely footed with large round feet. the top of the inkwell has a great wooden veneer with very detailed hand cut bronze and cow bone embellishments. they are held onto the base with large bronze studs. it has a beautiful solid bronze handle with two snakes intertwined together and their faces are mounted to the base. there are two round recesses on each side to hold pens and letter openers. and two square recesses for an inkwell and wash. the inkwell is made from clear glass with an amber glass lid and are held together by a bronze hinge. the wash has a nice shape and is made from clear glass. ... morethe base measures 11 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches and has a greater patina from age. it is in nice condition. Just has a replaced leg and bottom is missing the finish but can't tell when upright. rare antique 1800s handmade carved wood English letter desk pen box holder brass
This is a very rare antique 19th century handmade wood and brass English letter/pen holder/box. It is a fairly nice sized box completely cut and routed from solid piece of wood. it has nice plated brass emblems on the top and bottom face meant to be engraved but are blank. the top opens on a hinge and the front piece with the key hole also opens downward on a hinge. it exposed the letter section in the back and metal pen holders on the side. it also has gorgeous ornate hand carved trim pieces. it has acquired a lovely patina from age and has a nice tapering shape. it is in nice condition measuring 10 1/4 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 7 1/4 inches back to front. the key is missing. Selling this wood secretary desk. This was made by the Rockford Chair and Furniture Co. Rockford ILL. I am not 100% certain, but the research I've done makes me believe it was made between 1920 and 1930, but I could be wrong. This desk measures about 32 1/4" wide by 40" tall. Measures about 17 1/2" deep when closed and 29 1/2" when opened. Has various signs of age/use. Such as light scratches, a chip out of the front foot and some rough marks in the one drawer. We are pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL antique(late 19thC) telephone cabinet/stand. This is a beautiful. Early telephone cabinet with extraordinary and rare design. The stand is wood and features a domed top. It is adorned with ornate moldings and deeply carved/incised patterns. The domed section housed the telephone. It has a functioning door with a dimensional, winged mermaid applique. The mermaid has flowing, delicately scrolled enhancements for further interest. The domed section has a hole in the back for wiring/cords. It sits(is permanently attached) on a table/stand. This section features turned legs. There is a drawer for pens, paper, phone books, etc. in this section. The drawer front has a beautifully carved acanthus design. It retains the ornate bronze/brass pull which matches the pull on the cabinet door. The cabinet also retains ... morethe original petite chair. The chair has a gorgeous, skeleton keyhole back accent and features the same leg and stretcher design as the stand. The seat is covered in very old(maybe original) velvet fabric. The color is a beautiful cinnamon orange. The chair is a unique size and made for the cabinet. It is larger than a child's chair, but a very petite"adult" chair. The entire piece has. At some point(not by us) been beautifully painted in a white, crackled finish. Gold paint has been used as an accent in the crevices of the wood patterns and as a background for the mermaid. The interior of the cabinet is red and I do not know if that was the original color or if the piece has been painted more than once. This is an elegant piece that, no doubt, graced the hallway or bedroom of a very upscale home as it is more elaborate than most of the phone cabinets of this period. It is in very good antique condition. It is sturdy but old and, therefore, somewhat fragile. It is a fabulous accent piece with incredible charm and character. The stand measures 51 and 1/8" tall. Item is in excellent condition for being over 100 years old. Made in either the late 1800's or early 1900's. The desk is in incredible condition for it's age. Made of cast iron which has a beautiful filagree design to it, it is amazingly fee of any flaws or major imperfections. The wood parts as well are in flawless condition, minor scratches& staining may exist, but the wood is free of any cracks, chips, or major imperfections. All the original screws are still attached& hold the wood parts very well. There does not appear to be any sort of maker's mark on the piece at all. And is approx. 5 9inches tall. The exterior is covered in some type of heavy embossed paper material. That is original to the chest. There are some edges of the covering that is com ing loose mainly from age, but could be glued back down easily. I have one close up photo with a yellow pencil pointing at one of these spots as an example. Also please note in my photos where there are many different small areas where the paper has worn off. Also please notice the hasp latch on the front of the chest is missing the top part. There is an old original paper lining inside that is also worn from age. This item is an antique. Patented wall hanging or desk clip. Almost no imperfections. What slight imperfections it has close to the edge of it are plain to see in the pictures. Other than that it is perfect. Spring is as tight and strong as if it was made yesterday. Lots of life left in it. I am told the wood is Mahogany. It was made with a metal loop on the side for hanging. But can also sit on your office desk. It is quite an eye catcher. It looks like the first paper clip every made. Made in America! The embossing on back says: PACK& VAN HORN PAT'D JUNE 22 75 Which of course is 1875 but the 18 is not noted. Probably because there was little thought it would still be in circulation 2014. ANTIQUE WRITING DESK– NO RESERVE Acquired at an estate sale in Virginia is this antique wood folding lap writing desk. Unknown type of wood- does have a cedar smell on the inside. Inside in many areas written in pencil is dated information from the 1800’s. Some of the writing with signatures is faded and difficult to read. Some the years can be read are“June 1894” 465 letters” March 15& 16 1895” March( 17, 1877” and“July( 18, 1875” There is no structural damage to the box. There are no apparent breaks or repairs. Hinges are securely in place. Closed the desk measures 3 ¾ inches tall. 11 ¼ inches long and 7 ¾ inches wide. Open the desk measures 15-3/4 inches long. 11-1/4 inches wide and 1-1/4 inches to 2-1/2 inches tall(slopes up) Writing area has ink stains and is loose in one area– see photos. Glass inkwell without cap ... moreis included. Two pencils are also included. When the desk is closed the top has some marks/stains– I have not tried to clean these marks/stains. Key is included; unknown if this is the actual or original key. The key does work but at times it is difficult to unlock– I would not recommend locking the desk. Two. Vintage, used, old, wood, wooden, brass, desk, cabinet, furniture drawers, possibly antique. The larger drawer shows overall wear including scratches. Scuff marks, discoloration, unoriginal paint marks found, missing finish, nicks and chips found to the wood, and the back of the drawer appears to have been replaced with a piece of wood as there is a partial advertising label found. The smaller drawer is scratched. Discolored, stained, the brass is tarnished, and there is slight looseness found to the brass back piece. The larger drawer measures approximately 8.5” x 8.25” x 3.5” tall at the back and 3.25” at the front. For auction is a sweet little antique student school desk with a pull out drawer underneath. I was told it is probably from the early 1900's. But I'm not quite sure. It is very heavy and constructed of both wood and metal, which I believe is painted cast iron because of its weight. The metal has surface rust throughout and the top wooden part of the desk does have some movement. It appears the connecting bar underneath has snapped and will need to be soldered. But overall, this little school desk looks nice, even the way it is. The wood is still in great shape. Hard to come by one like this. Would make a nice photography prop for youngsters. large antique 1800's Victorian ornate handmade wood desk inkwell writing box set
This is a very high quality large antique 19th century Victorian handmade wooden writing desk box set. It is very rare. Ornate, and made with an abundance of intricate detailing throughout. the box has very large. Lovely shaped, and very detailed hand cut hinged on the box. They are held by many bronze rivet studs mounting them to the box. the domed shaped wooden piece on the top and the flat piece underneath both open on hinges revealing the inside. there is also a key hole and key on the domed top which operated the locking mechanism. under this section is two square shaped glass inkwells with silver lids. in-between them is a matching ink blotter with very ornate detailing. it sits recessed into the base and has a storage section underneath. This section runs all the way under the inkwells as well so it is a nice sized space. under the ... moreflat hinged piece is more storage and sections for other writing items. the box has acquired a lovely patina from age and measures 11 1/2 inches long by 9 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall. the box is in nice antique condition. Antique 19th Century Primative Pine Wood Schoolmaster's Slant Top Desk Gallery
Primitive Schoolmaster's Desk This is a gorgeous piece of early American history. This is a primitive schoolmaster's style desk. We are quite certain that this piece dates back to the early part of the 1800's. The desk was hand-made and was constructed using square nails. We suspect that the wood used is pine. Some sections of the desk were made using wood planks as large as 22" wide! A board on the top is 17 1/2" wide and one on the side measures 21" wide. Boards of this size only reinforce the old age of this piece. The desk has the following measurements: Height: 35" Width: 38" Depth: 28 1/2" Kneehole Opening: 23 3/4" tall(at center) by 19 3/4" wide, There are four roughly-cut drawers on the right side of the desk. They measure as follows: First: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep ... moreby 2" tall Second: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 3 1/4" tall Third: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 4 1/4" tall Fourth: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 5 1/4" tall, The drawer bottoms show evidence of being cut by a mill saw. They are all hand-planed and chamfered. One of the drawers does have a small hole in the face where a lock was removed. The right side of the desk is supported by 2 simple-style turned legs. There is a railed book gallery running across the back/top of the desk. This is in great. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. Regardless of age, this desk is still very sturdy. It appears as though the desk was once painted, but was later striped to reveal the natural wood finish. Tiny pieces of evidence of the previous paint job can be found in corners, cracks and crevices. The drawer pulls are old, but do not appear to be original to this piece. This desk is nearly 200 years old. It shows wear consistent to its age in the form of cracks, chips, scratches and general bumps and bruises. Victorian Porcelain Schoolgirl with Antique Style Wood Metal School Desk. Found at an Estate Sale. This item was one of many in a large doll collection. The brown-eyed schoolgirl doll is dressed in a Victorian style dress complete with ruffles and button down front. From the top her bonnet to her seat she measures approximately 10-1/2" and weighs 1 lb. 2 oz. She sits on a wooden seat behind a desk. The desk top opens. The desk measures approximately 12-1/4" long x 7-3/4" wide x 8-1/2" high and is heavy weighing 4 lbs 2 oz. The desk is made of wood with an ornate metal base. I think this is Vintage; however, judging from the hardware used(screws and nuts) it's not that old, maybe 50s to 80s, I don't know. No major Visible Defects. On the desk seat area both regular and phillips screws are used. There is very minor ... morewear on the desk. There are no markings. Whether the doll was part of the initial design with the desk, or they were individual items at one time, it's hard to say, but both pieces work well together.
