Antique tiger oak secretary buffet curio cabinet from the late 1900's in nice antique condition with very minor blemishes and has all the original hardware and glass in front of curio area. My dad squires this many years ago and did some minor restoration and had four glass shelves cut to fit it has two if the original wooden shelves and two that looks like we're cut for it later because they do not match and do not fit correctly. Not sure if he added the mirror inside curio or not but the mirror in door is original. One of the front legs has a nick at the bottom see pic. This is the first one I have ever seen with the playing card carvings spades hearts ect. The tiger oak markings are gorgeous. Antique Oak Secretary,Stained Glass,Circa 1900,Forest City Furniture of Rockford
Beautiful antique oak secretary with stained glass doors made by Forest City Furniture Company of Rockford Illinois. Forest City Furniture was located at Railroad Avenue at Eighth Street and operated from to 1919. It has carved claw foot legs on the front. The shelves are adjustable and movable between the top and bottom cabinets. The stained glass is a beautiful combination of of colors and shapes from right-angles to smooth curves. The original manufacturer's label is still attached to the back. The label lists the unit number. The cabinet maker, and who filled, varnished, rubbed, polished, trimmed and crated this particular piece. It measures 73.75" high by 34" wide and 18.25" deep. The top cornice molding looks to be a pine replacement but as you can see in the photos it blends in. The bottom cabinet doors were repaired ... morebefore I purchased it. The repairs are the two dark squares seen on the lower doors. Replacement veneer had been inserted and the varnish used darkened faster than the original finish. During the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Larkin Soap Company was making and offering various items free with large orders, one of these items being the'Chautauqua Desk' Refer last picture- these desks look very similar to this item. The desk is a golden oak color. With three(3) shelves and stands 53" tall x 30" wide and 12" deep, this becomes 26 1/4" deep with the desk open) There is no key for the lock. The desk weighs approximately 40- 50 lbs and is quite sturdy, i.e. well held together, not rickety at all. A fine antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, quartersawn and plain oak side by side bookcase with secretary drop front desk and drawers. The top is carved with an acanthus leaves finial, and scrolls with profile lion heads. There are two shaped beveled glass mirrors on back board above the bow front glass bookcase door, and the secretary. The bow glass has the original leaded ornament with textured squares. Three original dark stained wood stationary shelves are inside. Door has brass handle and lock. Oak drop front reveals a stained maple cubbyhole. The writing surface is three boards(two vertical shadow impressions where something was removed. It has a lock, no key.The three serpentine drawers have brass pulls, locks, and brass escutcheons, the interiors dark stained maple. Front feet are carved paws. It measures 5'2" 62" ... moretall by 3'5" 41" wide by 16" deep. The shelves are 12-3/4" deep, the drop front 18-1/2" by 15-1/2" Excellent condition: original finish, without chips or cracks, original glass without damage, mirrors fine.
