1890 French Bell Clock Movement Pristine Bronze Beveled Glass Marti Japy Freres
Another clock from my dad's collection. This auction is for the MOVEMENT ONLY as the belgium slate case weighs 60+ lbs. Movement includes heavy bronze metal mint dial and thick beveled glass hinged door. Bell, pendulum, side mounts and case back with original hinged mounting ring and screws. Movement looks pristine and complete to me! Both back and front hinges are in great condition, doors close and latch firmly. Fits 4 1/4" opening. A Brocot escapement is present. Pendulum size at bottom of plate: 4 pounce 11 ligne. I calculate that as 5.24" and will include a pendulum that measures 5 1/4" in it's shortest position- serial no. does not match. There is no key. There is a mark with a star and the letters SF& JD, serial no. 13022. On the side of the bezel frame the#2 plus the same serial no. stamped. German Phinney-Walker alarm clock is encircled around the face in blue gemstones. Every other one covered with a gold metal pattern of leaves. The face is modern with light green enamel decorating the hour hands and each hour marker. This a bit of a mystery piece for me. I picked it up at an estate sale of a local clock maker about a year ago. It was hanging on the wall as if it was waiting for its opportunity in life. I was told at the time that it was likely European and very old. I really don't know anything about it. But it's heavy and looks great! It's 18" tall. 18" wide, and weigh 8 lbs. The opening from the front is 3 11/16" The inner opening from behind is 4 1/8" The outer opening from behind is 4 5/8" The two holes on the back and the machined screws that are included appear to have been added more recently(unknown when) The"feet" are 3 3/4" 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock) And 3 3/8" 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock) The letters E C(or G? is stamped into the brass in a few places. For your consideration is this very nice Ansonia Wall Regulator called"Queen Jane" It was manufactured in 1901. It is time only 8-day movement. The case is solid Oak and in nice condition considering its age. As you can see by the pictures the clock is missing the top crown. Clock is a strong runner and keeps good time. I purchased the clock with the intent of making a crown but alas, too many projects and not enough time, so this one has to go. Measurements are 35 3/4" tall and 14" wide at the widest point.

Signed 19th Century Comtoise/Morbier clock with rare hand-painted scene on dial
1870's Comtoise clock with Roman numerals signed"Auguste Morel à Montbrison" the center of the dial is painted with the Roman mythology scene of"Diana and her favorite nymph Callisto" The identification of Diana is through the small moon-crescent diadem on top of her hair; the rest of the scene includes nymph Callisto along with a winged putto(a cherub-like child) and the usual bow and arrow-quiver in a woodland setting that are symbolic of this mythological moon/hunting goddess. Auguste Morel was a well-known clockmaker in Montbrison(because of his expertise. He was commissioned by this town's council in 1873 to maintain/repair its four public clocks) Accordingly, this particular clock's age is estimated be in the 1850-1880 range. This clock was professionally cleaned and adjusted over a year ago but ... morehas not been in operation since. Signs of its age and wear are evident on the painted brass surround and on the the iron box; there is one very minor chip between XII and I on the enamel dial. The cables and weights are replacements and so is the vintage pendulum. Besides the winding crank. An antique very sturdy auxiliary key is also provided to make the winding easier since the weights are quite massive(both items are now lightly taped to the floor of the iron box) Clock dimensions at the widest and longest points are 19" x 13 3/4" x 7 1/2" pendulum dimensions are 43" x 12 1/2" x 3/4" Weights are 18 lbs for the pair. This maker was working there about the 1772 to 1790 period. Robert patented a repeater mechanism in about 1772. Webster. Robert(2) of Whitby. Its got a pink top and lady goddesses on the bottom and the candelabras have cherubs on the bottoms. The clock itself does have some damage to the face. See photo. There are two pieces: the bottom and the upper piece which is removable. The base is with leopard head mask. Caryatid from legs and paw feet. The clock is in a good condition. I dont see any cracks. The case features raised Neoclassical Figures in white against a blue backround. The case is in Excellent Condition- no damages nor any repairs. The clock does not work- not sure of the problem but its wound tight. The clock is signed on the base/ underside of the clock Wedgwood- Made in England. The clock case stands approx 6-1/16" tall.
