I often see these opal painted shades on Arts& Crafts fittings in the past. Th ese shades were made for gas lamps with Comet shade holders which featured a usually well made tripod holder that you would set it on and then a set screw would push a small clasp against the inner surface of the s hade to secure it in place. These shades seem to have out-lived their ... moreoriginal brackets much to the con stern ation of Duplex oil lamp collectors as they have a fitterless opening that is 1/4" larger than regu lar Duplex shades be ing 4" These shades can be made to balance on the edge of a Duplex gallery but really need something to secure them such as a few bendable metal tabs on the inside of the shade galler y's ri m. The other common way is to find a shade gallery with three securing screws. These shades sit nicely on those adjustable screws. Victorian BARCLAY& SON Hinks Duplex Copper Oil Lamp c/w Burner& Shade Ref: HS I am offering for auction a very nice hand beaten"drop-in" C op per Oil Lamp made by BARCLAY& SON of 138 Re gent Street. London. It comes complete with it's original HINKS Duplex Patent burner and dates from the late 19th Century Arts& Crafts period. The lamp comes with quite a nice cranberry shade and duplex chimney. The burner has a twist key lifting mechanism. Which enables the gallery to be raised above the wicks for lighting, without the need to remove the chimney etc. This particular example has concentric winder shafts which raise and lower the wicks and com es complete with both snuffers. Which are activated by a single lever. The burner is mechanically complete and in reasonable condition. The lift and snuffer mechanisms both ... morefunction. But are fairly stiff. The sn uffer springs are int act but need to be tightened slightly to ensure the snuffers close fully. The copper font has a brass bayonet fitting. Which is embossed with the mak er's name Barclay& Son. The burner has the usual Hinks Duplex markings on the winder and Hinks& Son Patent between the slots. There is some minor damage to the chimney fence but it does not interfere with the fitting of the chimney. Whilst there are a couple of minor dents and ding s in the copper mainly one side/ lower edge. They are not serious and do not detract greatly. see photos) The lamp c an be free standing or used as a"drop in" font. To sit in either a wall or floor standing lamp fitting. The diameter of the font excluding the lip is 5 3/ 4" 14.4 cms) and the lip is 1/4" 6mm) thick. T h e lamp comes with a nice dark c ranberry shade and duplex c himney. Offered is an antique. Victorian era parlor lamp with original kerosene font and wick burner. The porcelain base has two transfer scenes: one side trees and mountain vista, and the other a mounted rider on a white horse. The man holds a staff, looks to be wearing a cloak, and sits in a high backed saddle. Looks like an addition of black paint dotted to accent the horse's eye and nostril, and the horseman's face. The iron base is attractive art nouveau inspired. The 5" brass font is removable, looks original, and is complete with burner, wick, wick dial, and fuel cap. There is also a chimney ring with one prong(of 4) missing. The wick dial is marked Made in U.S. of America. There is a 10" shade holder ready for the addition of your shade. Lamp is 16" to base of shade holder. The background colors are blended chocolate/burgandy, ... morea little yellow, some white. These colors are scuffed in some places and not distinct. This lamp is as I found it at a very old estate sale. It is dirty and will need a thorough cleaning(dust and minor corrosion to one part of the brass bottom piece) see pictures) It will sparkle-unfortunately I haven't the time(so you get a better deal) It has a lovely bluebird and church painted on the milk glass lamp base- the shade itself is not milk glass(I'm a little dubious as to whether the shade is original) The top brass collar on the shade doesn't fit snugly on it. It just sits on top. Comes with chimney. It has an electric hurricane holder but the lamp base itself is not drilled.and I do believe it could still work as an oil lamp with a different top? The canopy motor or chain pulley is not attached- I don't know how its supposed to go on-I couldn't get it to pull down but I really don't think it's broke- ... moreI do think it will work with just a little more time. the mechanism has lots of spring-almost to much? All chains appear to be present and accompanying hooks all crystals are also present some appear to have the tips damaged a little(it's not unsightly or overwhelming chipping in any way. You'll notice that some are uneven in the pictures-all the little hanging wires need a good straightening. This is an impressive hanging parlor lamp- perfect for the right decor or collector. The wonderful scene lights up beautifully on this shell lamp as it sits upon the cast bronze base with three legs. Which are each mermaids with their arms up as if holding up the shell. The base is painted dark green and as pictured, where the paint is chipped off the bronze has aged to natural green patina. The lamp stands 7 1/4" tall by 4 1/4" wide, the base is 2 1/2" tall. It appears that someone attempted to attach or repair the upper and lower half with hot glue as scene in the photo. It was purchased this way. I am not an antique expert. It has a couple of small chips on the bottom of the top globe, they cannot be seen when top is attached to lamp. Beautiful hand painted daisies. This is a Beautiful Vintage Lamp! They are commonly called. George& Martha Washington' lamps. There are no chips or nicks and the lovely dark muted green color is so beautiful! Amazingly, the color is not faded and the gold trim is great. Small area of wear of the gold on the very bottom of the base. It has its original emerald green glass finial. The damask victorian style shade is an eggshell/ cream color. The lamp has a 3 way switch. The shade is not original, but was made for me to use with this lamp and is well made and quite stunning. This solid cast iron plant/lamp stand is late Victorian(c. 1885) It apears to be consistent with American design and manufacture. There are no found maker's marks on the stand. The stand appears to be in great condition with no apparent breaks. Damage, repairs or missing parts. The gold paint is in excellent condition for the use and age. I'm pleased to offer up for auction a set of three antique plant or lamp ceiling hooks from the late 1800's. They are in the victorian or eastlake style and are made of cast iron. The escutcheons for the two large hooks have cast into their backs"Patd APR 23 1872" These two large hooks are 7" long tip to tip and 3.25" is the length of the hook itself. The small one is just over 4.5" with the hook itself being just under 2.5" They have some light wear and the casting is a bit crude but they are a great set and will make the new owner very happy! Antique Victorian Brass Spelter Onyx Tavern Table Lamp Stand LION HEAD FEET Base
This amazing table base dates from the middle to late 1800s and appears to be of American origin. It was most likely for a high end pool hall. River boat or similar and stands just 27” x 18 ½” across the MASSIVE cast white metal classical base with roaring lions’ heads, clawed paw feet, anthemion, scrolls and you name it. The 4” diameter column of reeded solid brass pipe is accented by a considerable disc of natural onyx and all of the fittings are cast and engine turned brass with traces of dore color. The surfaces are all original and have not been polished, so you will note spots of tarnish and verdigris under a protective coat of wax. Likewise the base has worn original gold paint under a dark wax polish that accents the details in the casting. The white metal has a missing anthemion and several structural cracks with late bolt repairs ... moreand some baling wire thrown in for good measure. The wrought iron reinforcements appear to be original. It is sturdy and usable and stands just a bit off-kilter. Antique 19th Century MISSION Victorian Brass & Cut Glass OIL LAMP Font NICE
I was told this is an antique whale oil lamp font. It looks like one of those old french oil lamps to me. I'm not a lamp expert! It measures 5" tall from where the burner screws on to the bottom. It is 3 1/2" diameter across the bottom. The brass and the glass are quite heavy and the diamond pattern has been cut into the glass. Not pressed. The glass is perfect with no cracks or chips or scratches. The brass has some tarnish on it, but hey, it's old. The part that the burner screws onto is exactly 1" outside diameter. It has 2 numbers on the glass on the bottom, or a symbol and a number. The first number or symbol is unreadable because the glass design cuts into it. Victorian Messengers Urn Shaped Oil Lamp
You are bidding on an urn shaped oil lamp. The body of the oil lamp is stoneware hand decorated with irises in gold. Red and green on a cream base. The decoration is carried from the body into the font cover which tops the lamp, as shown in the photo. The underside of the body has a stamp which is unclear there are 7 letters over a Maltese cross?A?NTRY. The product reference is in red numerals 15 L121210. Almost certainly Made in Staffordshire. The base is a series of decoratively chased and polished cast brass components with acanthus leaf. Fluting and other decoration over 3 lions feet. The base of the lamp is weighted with a cast iron insert inset with MESSENGER. The font is tinned iron which has a stamped‘Messenger’s patent’ bayonet fitting burner collar with a cork inset. The outside of the lamp is in very good condition with a little ... moretarnishing to the brass and slight rubbing to the painted decoration and crazing to the glaze. Internally a hole has been drilled in the bottom of the brass font holder and the font. The hole in the font has been subsequently filled. Both these are shown in the photos. Doulton Lambeth Victorian Oil Lamp c. 1883 Edith Lupton
DOULTON LAMBETH VICTORIAN OIL LAMP This lot is a Doulton Lambeth Victorian Oil Lamp dating. I believe, to around 1883. It stands approximately 15½ ins(39 cm) high, with no shade or chimney. The stoneware decoration in true Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau style, both pieces of stoneware bearing the initials of Edith Lupton( other marks include Edith Herrapath, pattern no 1380, and two sets of initials I cannot identify probably FH& JC in script) At some stage in it's life it has been converted to an electric lamp and, as such, has a small hold drilled into the base rim. To pass the cable through, the internal metal works have also been drilled although not visible, the internal glass reservoir has been broken and the burner( Hinks Duplex Patent) has been damaged. Vintage pair of porcelain victorian lady lamp figurines made in Germany
This is a very old pair of beautiful porcelain lamps made in Germany from the early 1900's. They are both numbered 14702, there is a makers mark on the side but I am not able to find much info but believe it might be Dornheim Kock Fischer. They are 9 1/2" high overall and the figurine it's self is 6 1/2" high, 4" wide, and 3 1/2" deep. These lamps both have the original cloth covered cords that they first came with and will have to be replaced if you intend to use them. There is no chips cracks or scratches on these wonderful pieces. They would be great in a girls room or up in a lit shelf and proudly displayed. Insurance will be included with shipping.
