The photo shows a turn of the century surfman in his"storm suit, equipped for a nighttime shore patrol with lantern, walking stick and portable time clock. PLEASE NOTE: the photos of the Portable Watchman's Clock we have up for sale in this auction are directly below. Up in this auction is a Portable Watchman's Clock. Of the type used by the U.S. Life Saving Service circa 1900. Serial number 31085. According to the internet such watch clocks were used by Life Saving Service surfmen in their patrols along the shore to log in their rounds and assure that all of the route was covered. We found the following on lighthouseantiques ... moresite on the internet(another great site! The marking mechanism of the Imhauser is located inside the case cover and is very distinctive. When a station key is inserted in the marking mechanism. It moves a slidable member(against a slight spring force) The length of the particular key determines how far the slidable member is moved and hence to what radius of the recording chart a marking pin is brought. Then, when the key is turned, the pin is snapped against the paper recording dial and marks it at that radial position. The clock works perfectly. Just as it did over a hundred years ago Again according to the lighthouseantiques site. This is the style that was used for many years. They noted that in the Service’s Annual Report for 1886, it is noted that this clock was intended for use at isolated stations where patrol exchange checks could not be used. The clock case is a real beauty with a rich ornate design, which has been finely molded. It is highly unusual to come across such a large and elegant antique. Solid cast bronze, and the Green and cream Onyx stone workings and in my opinion to be of museum quality. Researching this has not really helped a lot but you will find tons of information about Triumph in the science over Death and I have no proof that this clock and that information are tied together. However you will find tons of statues at this time period for this TH.Science and they are not the same. It would be interesting to know exactly who, and the significance this clock was made. I think there is a much bigger story here. If I were to guess I would think it was made for a specific person and of Notability. It is definitely hand painted porcelain(or china glaze) The clock has been serviced. And it's working and keeping proper time. The dial has great accents and the painted artwork on the front of the case is something to be proud to display. This is a Mastercrafters electric clock with a sessions mechanism. This clock features a man and woman seated on either side of the clock. The costumes are reminiscent of colonial times but could be from any of the 18th or 19th century eras. It actually likes to be leaning a little forward to work and stay running. At close to 130 years old the fact that it still exists in any condition and runs is amazing to me. Case has dings. Clock face has paint missing please see all photos. This a great collector piece that I personally would leave as is but if you want a restoration project the bare bones of a working clock are here. Antique Large Mantle Clock- Brass Fittings, Columns, Marble
This auction is for an old mantle clock. It is quite large- 18 inches long and 8 1/2 wide. It stands 11 inches high. It is very beautiful in a red marble with much decoration. The front stands on two ornate bronze legs and the sides are decoratedc with a bronze lion's head. It has two marble columns on either side of the clock face. The face has very old-fashioned numerals. Each in a brass cartouch; the cartouches are joined on the outside and the inside by concentric brass circles, also very ornate. It has a key for winding and a brass weight. It has recently been taken out of storage and these had been removed for moving it. It worked before it went into storage- I believe it was a 3 day clock. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, bronzed white metal statue clock of a young lady Venus with cupid holding a brass framed mirror. The metal is embossed on the reverse edge: France. The sculpture has a front brass tag: Coquetterie, par Louis et Francois Moreau( Med. d'or. The white enamel dial is very fine with graphics, under brass door with bubble glass. The platform is of polished brown veined white marble. It is in working order: tells the time, gong chimes the hours. Original iron key and brass pendulum are included. It measures 12-1/2" tall by 18-1/2" wide by 6-3/4" deep. Excellent condition: marble platform without chips or cracks, sculpture bronze finish is unworn. Dial is without chips or cracks, bubble glass is fine. The brass frame needs better seal to the reverse to hold the mirror.

An antique. Circa 1930's, Art Deco style mantel clock. The clock case is of slate faced with a celadon and brown color onyx, the dial and numerals in brass. On the slate platform is attached a bronzed white metal deer. It is in working order to tell the time, winds nicely. No key is included. The clock total measures 9-3/4" tall by 19-1/4" wide by 3-1/2" deep. Excellent condition: onyx stone without chips or cracks, very minor front left underside corner chip to slate platform. The bubble glass in door is fine. The deer is in the original unworn finish, no breaks or repairs.

Between 1910 and 1920. Its movement bears the engraved logo of the company Jughans, one of the most prestigious watchmaker firms in the world. The clock is in excellent condition and works perfectly, having been thoroughly revised and fine-tuned in order to guarantee it. It chimes the hours and the halves. It boasts a neoclassical-inspired design, with a lovely architectonic style that turns it into a piece of timeless elegance. Junghans Uhren GmbH is currently Germany’s biggest watchmaker and one of the most important of Europe. The logo of the brand is an eight-pointed star with the letter J(initial of Junghans) inside. It is also marked Seth Thomas& Made in USA on the dial. This comes with a key and heavy brass bob. It measures approx. 10-3/4" tall to the peak. About 8" across the front at the base and about 5-1/2" deep on the side. This vintage clock is in need of some restoration. It does chime when I manually turn the hand to the hour& 1/2 hour and will tick for a few seconds when the clock chimes. The chime has a cathedral sound to it. The thin metal on top of the pendulum arm that holds the weight is broke. The dial is scratched. The brass bezel is twisted& bent and it is missing the glass. The back door hinge is missing a screw& the wood is ... morechipped behind the hinge. The dark wood veneer of the clock has come crazing or checking. The clocks finish just looks like it needs a good cleaning& wood benefit from a good rub. This is an estate find from a clock collector so I don't know if anything has ever been replaced. Repaired or what is original and what is not. It all appears to be original to me. Just my opinion. I don't know ANYTHING about clocks. I am selling this clock on consignment for a friend. MADE IN NEW YORK IN THE LATE 1800'S BY ANSONIA CLOCK CO. A RARE FIND IN THIS GOOD CONDITION. THIS STRIKES THE HOUR AND HALF-HOUR ON A CATHEDRAL GONG. THIS COMES WITH PENDULUM AND KEY. IT IS CAST IRON. WITH COLUMNS, BRASS BEZEL, AND ORNATE GILT FIGURES ON EACH SIDE. IT MEASURES 11 TALL X 15 1/2 WIDE X 5 1/2 INCHES. CONDITION IS VERY GOOD CONSIDERING IT'S AGE.
