Vintage fruit crate. All original. See a brief history below. In 1921. Joseph DiGiorgio owned 20,482 acres of productive fruit lands in California. In 1935, his holdings had increased to 40,000 acres, mostly in California. Included in this acreage were 6,000 acres near Arvin in Kern County, and another 6,000 acres near Delano in Tulare County. Hundreds of Asian and Chicano farm workers provided the labor to make this land profitable for the DiGiorgio corporation. The Kawasaki Labor Camp. Located in the vicinity of Delano, consisted of about 40 small buildings in which farm laborers were housed, a few larger residences where the camp bosses lived, and a mess hall and company store providing services for laborers. Eight structures at the northwestern portion of the property are two-room wooden buildings; the remaining laborers' dwellings ... moreare former railroad boxcars placed on concrete blocks. We performed some restoration tasks as described below. All of the original printing is intact and the ink coloring is very vibrant and rich. Please see the photos to see what was performed on this crate in the restoration process: Sanding of all non-printed panels. Mostly on the inside and 2 bottom panels(top and bottom) Light sanding may have been done to some of the panels with printing but with great care to avoid damaging or removing the printing or graphics• Application of a coat of satin polyurethane. Not rickety when pulled at It has a metal grate type bottom All four corners and bottom edging also have metal reinforcements The metal corners are Embossed with lettering as well Some Scratching. Hi. I've got a nice collectable for all you soda folks out there! It's a 7 up soda crate. Original paint, for holding the 6 packs. In good condition, with only the expected paint loss on something from this era. All wood is in good shape. As well as the end metal bands. No serious damage at all, just age, normal usage wear, and a little dirt. It measures 18 1/2" x 11 3/4" and is 4 1/4" deep. Printed on inside is: Sturdee Built Bottle Box" in side a capital"D" H.D. Dreyer& Co. Inc. Baltimore" in the middle of the capital"D" and has the#s 8 and 54( 8 on outside left of the"D" and 54 on the right) I'm assuming this is the date, but I can't be sure.
