The large crate's capacity is 7 1/2 dozen eggs and has 3 pulp fiber cardboard separators each holding 30 eggs. The medium crate's capacity is 5 dozen eggs and has 2 pulp fiber cardboard separators each holding 30 eggs. The small crate's capacity is 1 1/2 dozen eggs and has 2 pulp fiber cardboard separators each holding 9 eggs. T hey were used on farms for gathering the Hen's eggs from the chicken coop that were to be sold. The eggs would be transported to the Country Store or Market in these to prevent the breaking of the eggs. You're bidding on a vintage wooden bottle crate featuring 7up advertising on four sides. Front and back feature the 7up logo with the"Fresh Up" slogan on one side. And the"It Likes You" slogan on the other side. The sides of the box also feature the logo. I'm thinking the box dates from the 1940s, when the"Fresh Up" campaign first came into use- The box also indicates"Colonial Beverage Co. Seven-Up Division, Cambridge, Mass, and I can't find any references to this company at a Cambridge address after the 1940s. This box was a barn find, so it does have some wear and some staining- the top edge on one side is broken off, a small bottom edge piece is missing on the other side, and there is a small hole worn through the bottom, Overall, though, it's still a solid box, and condition as-is gives ... moreit a nice rustic antique appearance. Up for auction we have a very early wooden Hebe Beverage Crate. From Providence Rhode Island circa 1920. Probably used for soda. The Hebe company was in operation from 1916 till the late1930's. The large wooden crate measures approx 20" wide by 13 inches deep and is 10 inches in height. The crate has a great looking black stencil& Liberty Logo on two sides. The ends are also logoed with the words Hebe Beverage. There is a wooden insert grate inside the crate which separates each bottle. The graphic has very strong eye appeal. There is a small area of damage to the wood which I have photographed. The crate remains solid except for a small chip on bottom. This could be used as an herb porch planter or simply for decor. This pine box would have been used for the delivery of the glass bottles within and is a strong pine confection. The old labels are simply divine. The front label has the word LA LAZARINE with a scrolled banner threaded through the letters. I think LA LAZARINE was sold in pharmacies or apothecary shops as the lid states it is an ELIXIR de SANTE( health) The lid shows the manufacturers was situated in Marseille and there are sold old"Depose" patent labels.
