This was found stashed in the box of the attic of our home when we purchased in 1983 from a 92 year old man. The home was built in 1928. Actually their were a dozen bowls! I already had a small collection of vintage pottery. And these were a nice addition! Not sure exactly how old these are. It is a very nice sturdy piece. weighing 3 lbs! and would compliment any crock or stoneware collection. The stoneware/ pottery has a reddish appearance as seen along the top edge and bottom of the crock. The main colors are gray and cobalt blue. There is pitting. Definitely occurred during manufacturing. There aren't any marks to indicate as to who the manufacturer was. This is one of the neatest Liqour advertising jugs we've put up for sale. It actually has an old four digit phone# on it. And that is very rare. At 8" tall x 5 3/4" this isn't exactly a mini jug, but it is a very nice collectible 1/2 gallon size. The Denver phone service started in 1879. After some research we found that both the Telephone Exchange and The New York Liquor House were on Larimer st. The jug says: The New York Liquor House 2311-13 Larimer Street Telephone 1910- Denver. Colo. The jug is in pretty good shape. No cracks. There is one chip on the upper shoulder. And three chips at the bottom of the jug. All shown in pictures. There are also the usual hand made manufacturing defects that are under the original glaze, blurred and faded stamp, color spots, glaze skips, crazing, debris under glaze, and thats OK because ... morethey show the real age of the jug. This jug comes from a time when the old west days and the Victorian days were mixing together. And they had a telephone. WoW! How cool would it be to call over for a bottle of wine and a guy on a horse delivers it. At the same time when a lot of America didn't even have electricity. Investors this is the real deal. This jug is a collector cross over of several different types. From the wiskey advertising jug, of the old west, to the high tech telephone. Don't miss out. Two years later(in 1878) Frederick O. Masterfully executed with great attention to detail. Done with a beautiful light blue cobalt with no frying except at the high points of the dots. A wonderful piece of 153 year old decorated stoneware chock full of crudity and character! Note the crudely formed elephant ear handles that were formed and applied by hand. A thick even coat of salt glaze was expertly applied during firing. Lending the piece a shiny light brown aged patina. This lid is in Excellent Condition with one slight small chip to the rim of the handle. 2 very faint spider lines on the inside rim and a 1/2 circle spider line on the outside of the inside rim. They are not cracks, you cannot feel them when you run your fingernail over them, the lid is guarantee 100% secure. There are a number of very shallow small chips to the outside of the inside rim. Very Rare Interesting COLBURN Pottery Crock Spittoon Patent Issued 1861 Re-Issued 1875 I recently found this odd and uniquely designed Antique Pottery Crock or Spittoon stored away in the basement of an old Boston. MA Estate. It measures approximately 6 1/4" high and has an 8 7/8" diameter across the top. As you can see in the photos. This is a very uniquely designed piece. I'm not sure exactly what its intended use was.my best guess is that it was a spittoon or a unique invention for a flower planter. I've been unable to find another example of this piece or anything resembling it. It's shaped much like your typical crock. But the top is not completely open. As seen in the photos, it concaves inward and has five circular openings. The bottom edge has a scalloped design which also differs from your typical antique crock ... moreor spittoon. stamped into the side of the piece is COLBURN'S PATENT ISSUED 1861. RE-ISSUED 1875. The condition is excellent with just one small shallow chip on the lip. I welcome any feedback from those more knowledgeable about 19th Century Pottery. If not a One-Of-A-Kind piece. Vtg. Stoneware Short Crock (Possibly Dog Dish) in Great Condition 10"x3 5\8"High
Tonight's Buy It Now Item is a Vintage Stoneware Crock or Possibly a Older Dog Dish which it fits with size and looks. But with no name on the sides and possibly a mark on the base which could be signature(Photo#3) or just a mark on the base that's nothing more than an imperfection. It's in great condition, I find no chips or cracks, just some wear proving it's been around awhile. It measures 10 inches to the very outside of the top lip, and about 3 5\8 inches from base and top of the lip. Quite heavy and solid and I'll leave it to the specialists out there to figure dog dish? is it signed? or just a vintage crock on the shorter side than most?
