I'm guessing it was made around the turn of last century but I'm open to being told the era from you bottle experts. Perfect decoration for a country kitchen or diner or even an antique store. 1880s Primitive Stoneware Hanging Salt Crock Box Cellar w Wooden Lid Blue White
Fresh from an upstate New York estate! This primitive hanging salt crock from the late 1800's will add some lovely country charm to your home. The heavy salt glazed blue and white decorated pottery can be hung or displayed on a hutch or counter. It has a hinged wooden lid and a hole in the back of the pottery for mounting on a wall Though over a hundred years old. This crock is in remarkably good shape. It does have the typical mold flaws of early stoneware. In addition, the interior has a dime sized spot where the surface glaze is missing and there is a small chip in the glaze on the front edge. see pics) There is the typical age crazing and hairlines to the glaze but the cobalt decoration is bright and the pottery is structurally sound. SMALL BROWN GLAZED CROCK JAR POTTERY STONEWARE 1860 VIRGINIA WEST INCISED RING
Here is a MOST INTERESTING OLD CROCK from WEST VIRGINIA OR VIRGINIA I THINK. I know that it is old. Probably pre CIVIL WAR around 1860- It has a an INCISED RING down to about the middle that sets it apart from most others of its type. It is small, even diminutive, measuring just 6 1/4 inches in height, 4 inches across the top and 4 1/4 inches across the base. The bare clay on the base indicates that it is REDWARE. Now the GOOD NEWS- It is in MINT- PERFECT CONDITION. I cannot find one thing wrong with it. For the age that is REMARKABLE. You will notice that one of the photos make the pot look like blue. That is where the sun was hitting it, a reflection. The interior shows the EXACT SAME BROWN GLAZE AS THE OUTSIDE DOES. GREAT LITTLE JAR. Buyer pays $8.00 domestic shipping and handling. It is a 2 quart jar. no marking found. Around the lip of the top of the jar are two spider type cracks. Not all the way through and do not effect the sturdiness of the rim. one is about 1" long and about 1/2" Minor for the jar. see photos) The lid is in very good condition. Up for auction I have an old stoneware crock lid. The lid is 11-1/4 inches across. The fitter or inside rim starts at 9-1/4 inches and bevels out to 9-11/16 inches. One big chip on the inside and a lot of roughage. All in all I think it is a pretty neat piece. The colors remind me of the lidded water coolers. But I really do not know. Weighs 3 pounds 6 ounces. Chocolate Glazed Stoneware Earthenware Crock Pitcher
Rich deep chocolate brown color. Inside and out, on this 8 inches tall pitcher. The glaze is very shiny. The bottom of the pitcher has felt strips to keep the surface from being scratched. The pitcher measures 8" tall. 7" wide, spout to handle, 5" wide just top inside diameter. The material looks like formed clay. Not sure if it is earthenware. Stoneware, or the material of old crocks. The glaze is shiny and the pitcher looks modern. Not old or antique. No cracks or chips.

We are offering a Salt Glazed Stoneware Crock with a cobalt design and a flawless rim. The crock is in very nice condition with no hairlines or chips. It has two white specks and two brown areas at the bottom that extend to the base. The crock has 4 cobalt designs and several incised lines bordering the top. The size of the crock is approximately 9” tall x 5 1/8” top diameter and 5 ¼” bottom diameter. It holds over one gallon of liquid. One of the handles has a small chip on the underside(see photo# 8) The design is nice and dark. The name impression is very readable as well. There is a 2" x 2" spot to the lower left of the design that looks to be a glaze flaw of some sort of wear mark. It is rougher than the rest of the finish(photo 9) There is also a small flake on the inside top rim of the crock(photo 7) Good shape other than that handle. I also see a line on the top inside of the crock that is completely glazed over. Up for your consideration is a RARE one gallon crock by the potter/business man who started the Williamsburg Pottery in Lightfoot. VA. about 5 miles west of Williamsburg, Virginia on route 60. I've show this crock to lots of local collectors and no one has ever seen one incised and signed JEM 1958 by Jimmy Maloney(1912-2005) Jimmy threw this pot 20 years after he started his pottery business. When he first started he bought seconds from the potters in eastern NC to sell at the shop. He had learned to pot and started making pieces for himself. It may have been a personal piece or advertisement for the business. Near perfect condition.two tiny flea bites on the inside rim and a little glaze loss of the bottom. For sale is a nice antique 1800's salt glaze stoneware 4 quart crock from Fort Edward. New York made by G.S. Guy& Co. The crock has three small chips on the upper rim and one on the bottom. There is a large firing crack near the bottom that starts at the brown spot and extends right for about 5 and 1/2 inches, give or take. It does spider web out a little. This firing crack does not go all the way through to the inside. From the inside, you see absolutely no evidence of a crack anywhere and the crock will hold water. NICE ANTIQUE 1/2 GALLON STONEWARE CROCK WITH WIDE RIM unknown maker
For sale is a nice antique salt glaze 1/2 gallon stoneware crock. The only damage that I could find was a small chip at the top of the rim that measures a little less than 1/4 inch in length and is less than a millimeter deep. The crock has an unusual large rim that measures 1 and 1/4 inches in width. It stands roughly 6 and 1/2 inches tall and measures 4 and 3/4 inches in diameter on the inside of the rim. There is a small area that did not get glazed on the back side of the crock. There is also a spot that looks like some one pushed in two fingers before the crock was fired. However, there are markings underneath the pour spout that we can not decipher. There also appear to be markings on the bottom that look like initials, but age has deteriorated it. The brown part of the jug is full of flea bites, comes with the cork. The base of the handle is not perfect but it looks like it was manufactured that way. The crock has a dent in it on the right hand side of the spout, as well as a square chip from the base of the bottom. There are also flea bites and flaws from manufacturer. Antique 19th C Stoneware Decorated S.H. Sonner Strasburg Virginia 2gal Crock
We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Decorated 2 Gallon S.H. Sonner Strasburg Virginia Crock. This crock is in Great Condition with one crack that extends from about 2" on the base all the way to the top rim. There is another slight crack just above the impressed 2 on the top rim. Both have been glued and are guaranteed 100% secure. The crock rings true when you tap it. There are 5 chips to the top rim and 1 very smooth chip to the outside rim of the base. No other issues. The crock measures 11 1/4" x 11" tall, 8 1/4" x 7 1/4" at the top diameter, x 7 3/4" at the base and weighs approximately 10lb 2oz. From the measurements the crock is a bit lopsided and the mouth is not circular. You can refer to the pictures. The crock is marked S.H. VTG. Sharp Cheddar Cheese Cold Pack Cheese Food Ceramic Crock! This fine piece of advertising history is in ECCELENT shape for its age! As you can see in the pictures the original label is only slightly worn and the colors are BRIGHT– TRUE– VIBRANT. There are no crack or chips in the stoneware except on the lid where the metal clap/closure rubs against each side. The original food expiration date on this is clearly printed on the label– 12/02/78! With lid in place it stands approximately 5.5 inches tall. This crock was produced by Funds-A-Poppin division of TV-Time Foods. Inc in Chicago, Illinois. This company held a registered trademark from ... more1977 until it expired and was not renewed in 1985. I can find no evidence the company is in existence today, making this crock a true piece of American History! NO MORE are being produced and the number in existence is dwindling as they are broken and/or thrown away. making this a highly sought after collectible! Detailed Condition Information: This item is preowned but gently used! There are no cracks. Chips, breaks in the stoneware except there metal fastener rubs the lid on each side. The original paper label is in great condition with very little wear and almost NO FADING. Colors are true and vibrant! What better reason, to take a peek at our E& L P Norton, Bennington Vermont 2 Gallon salt Glazed Stoneware Jug with strong blue cobalt design and clear impression signature recently deaccessioned from one man's lifelong collection not far from where this was manufactured in the 19th c pottery. Jug shows well with very clear imprint in capital letters over numeral"2" over a bold and New England typical butterfly wing plume spray with dotted pistil on top done in thick and very stable cobalt blue slip. Strong single rear strap handle is particularly nice on this example and easy to grasp. It has an overall lightly dappled dimpled surface in tannish grey color with one mild line drip and kiss mark on rear from kiln ... moremanufacture. This is of course a two gallon size measuring 13.5" tall and 8" across base. There is also a tan dry kiss mark on lower front left bottom near edge which makes jugs all the more charming. Please study pictures taken outside in natural light to see this item and ask questions you may have of any concerns. Condition Report: Newly fresh to market. Not kicked around mall or dealer stock. Smoke free home. Sound, no hairlines or body chips. Only one small old flat darkened chip to flat open lip on edge at approximately 7 o'clock position.
