There are no cracks any where on it. There are two points on the bottom of the crock that my be chips out of it, or it may be that they were manufacturing flaws, but in any case, as can be seen in our photos, they are insignificant faults, and would have no effect on the use of the crock. What's more, they are on the bottom of the crock, where they wouldn't even be seen in normal usage. The crock is glazed both outside and inside, and there doesn't seem to be any crazing any where on the crock, inside or outside, that I have seen. From research that I have recently done on this crock, I have been happily surprised to learn that this piece representing the stoneware produced by the Cowden family of Harrisburg, PA, the capital city of Pennsylvania, is or was among the most highly collected stoneware in the nation. I am under the impression that the blue decoration and the salt glaze used by these producers was something new and important to the production of stoneware. This crock measures approximately 9-1/2 inches high, 9-1/4 inches across the top, 10 inches across the widest part and 7 inches across the base. Interesting writing on the bottom says"Art Gabel, Faler Farmhouse South of town- Connely Mont. 1941 Aug" Jug measures 11" tall x 9.5" wide at bottom and 31" in circumference. ANTIQUE McCORMICK-DEERING Stoneware Crock Complete with Lid. Straps, and Brass Spigot Unusual Variation Up for auction is this Antique McCORMICK-DEERING Stoneware Crock. I bought it 40 years ago at an auction thinking it was a cooler for on the farm to put lemonade or ice water in for the workers. Over the years I have seen the lye crock version of this with the mixing directions printed on it. That version also had the IH logo and it only had one iron strap. It's unusual to find one of these complete and without damage. Some say these were made by Red Wing. Everything about this piece is original and in great condition. No cracks or chips. It does have some old green barn paint on the straps from painting the barn area without the crock being removed. And a few small spots of rust on the straps. Here is a large 4-gallon antique stoneware jug crock made in Keene. New Hampshire. I can't quite make out the top line, looks a lot like J. S. Taft, xxxx-xx- N.Y. but not sure. It has an elaborate cobalt blue decoration with vines, flower and leaves, tendrils etc. This jug is about 19" tall and approx. 10-3/4" across the diameter at the base and about 34-35 inches in circumference at the widest part of the jug. The top and side(of the spout) have very old chips. There is an"in-the-making" defect in the front that you can view with the e-bay magnifier. For your consideration is a bottom marked two gallon Red Wing Stoneware salt glaze crock made in Red Wing. Minnesota. This decoration was hand drawn on stoneware pieces during the 1890s. Red Wing Stoneware ceased using salt glaze in 1895-1896, which means this crock was manufactured during the early or middle 1890s. This crock is almost 10" tall and the bottom is slightly over 9" in diameter. This crock has an X shaped very tight hairline, this hairline is on the left side and the center of the X is approximately 3 1/2" above the bottom; these hairlines are very tight and the longest of the two lines is approximately 4 1/2" long and I can see neither hairline can be seen on the inside. Around the bottom are some chips; these chips are all pictured in at least one picture. For sale is a Antique North Carolina Stoneware Crock Or Jar circa 1890. The jar is 7.5" tall and 5" in diameter. The stoneware is about 1/2" thick and the crock with lid weighs about 3 pounds. It would have been referred to as a quart canning jar probably for meats. The jar is in very good antique condition with no chips or cracks. There are superficial surface cracks on the base but the jar"Will Hold Water" The glaze is an albany slip that has been salt fired. The salt turns the albany slip back. I can not say with any certainty exactly where in North Carolina this jar was made or by whom because it is not marked. This crock is in Excellent Condition with 1 shallow chip to the base and 2 spider lines that start at the base and extend upward. You can just feel them when you rub your fingernail over them. Very slight, they do not extend to the inside of the crock. There are no other chips, cracks, and or repairs. There is staining. Antique three(3) Gallon Fort Dodge. Iowa zinc glaze stoneware crock Up for auction is an antique three gallon zinc glazed Fort Dodge. Iowa stoneware crock in excellent condition. The Fort Dodge. Iowa Stoneware Company existed from 1896-1906. In 1906 it was purchased by Western Stoneware Company and then became the Plymouth Stoneware Company from 1908-1909. Red Wing Stoneware Company then purchased the business in 1909 and continued ownership until 1910 when the plant burnt down. It was never rebuilt. This crock is over 100 years old and is almost 11” tall and 10” in diameter. The markings are in black ink. The crock is in very good condition with no chips. Glaze skips or hairline cracks. Offered here without reserve is this one gallon saltglaze stoneware crock by Hamilton of Greensboro Pa. She measures 10" high. Old Chinese Stoneware Crock Jug Jar Bottle with Writing/Lettering
You are bidding on an older Chinese Stoneware Jug or Bottle. The only translation I can get on this is that it says Hong Kong and possibly wine. I am told it is"old" chinese. The bottle is crudly made. The lip is crude but does not appear to have damage. There is one rough spot to the shoulder of the bottle that shows in the 8th picture. There is a large piece of clay/stoneware that has stuck to the bottom of the bottle when it was made that you can see in the last picture. The bottle is approximately 8 7/8 inches tall and 4 1/4 across the base. I am sorry I have no real information but am selling this as found. I ship to the US only at this time. The jug is approximately 12 inches in height and 7.00 inches in diameter( across the base) and reads" Lockeland/ Spring Co. Nashville, Tenn. The overall condition is very good with three small dings to the base and some surface"hairlines" to the base and back. These, in my opinion, do not penetrate through and through. There is a bit of a brown spot just to the right and below"Tenn. in the stencil. This is a great jug! I have never seen another. I am sure they are out there but one would have to look long and hard! Primitive Antique Crock Stoneware Jug Americana Whiskey
This is a nice primitive Americana crock jug. It has lots of wear from years of use; but is still a nice old antique jug. It is 9" tall- 18& 1/2" around the bottom part. The top is 1& 1/2" across- the bottom is 5& 3/4" across. I can't tell what the original color was. The top part is a black color. The handle has been broken off and there is chips around the edges; but it is still a good piece of primitive Americana. It is a heavy piece of stoneware. Thanks for viewing!
