These are likely Staffordshire district in origin. Have a nice pearlware glaze and have old Sotheby tags on the back from when they were sold in New York, ages ago. One dish is about perfect with a minor tight 1/4" glaze line off the edge and one 1/2" line on the back that looks like a hairline but is only crazing.it doesn't reach the edge of the dish and is only in the glaze. There is some stacking glaze wear and one spot in the upper left corner that has some rather heavy wear as you can see in the photo. These beautiful early pieces are in the sprig pattern is two shades of soft beige with two green incised bands on both the cup and saucer. The set is hand decorated with grisaille monochromatic brushwork in dark sepia brown on creamy earthenware, leafwork outlined in a lighter shade of olive brown and finished with pearlware glaze. Originally part of the complete dollhouse miniature dinner service. The tiny plate measures 2 3/4" in diameter with a hand cut scalloped rim, impeccably potted and finely transfer printed with pearlware glaze. According to Coysh and Henrywood. This tiny piece of Chinoiserie, with elements of gothic and classical design, depicts a Queen escorted by a blackamoor holding a parasol and 2 children holding her train. Doris Lechler, in her book‘English Toy China’ attributes the pattern to Spode. According to the Transferware Collectors Club and others, it would have been made by Minton. It dates to 1820-1830.
