Almost certainly Hartford County, c. 1780-95 Item# 1402VPP15PF While the"oxbow" or reverse serpentine facade has strong roots in Massachusetts craftsmanship. Particularly in the South Eastern parts of the state, and notwithstanding the many documented examples of good similarity to the present example, this is almost without a doubt a work of Hartford County, Connecticut. The quality is above reproach in every way, utilizing generous solid planks of mahogany to form the top and sides with a single board. The top is handsomely molded and projects softly over all three sides, framing a graduated facade of four drawers with a robust undulating oxbow profile, flanked by deeply fluted corner columns with turned caps and feet, the whole resting over bold and original ogee bracket feet. The drawer construction is distinctive and highly economical; they are almost certainly formed from a thick square section of the mahogany trunk. Each sawed in succession and the remainder used to block out the curve of the topmost drawer. The result is precise and impressive. Each drawer side is finished with a raised bead along the outer edge, a feature almost synonymous with case furniture of this region of Connecticut. The bottom drawer exhibits a half-moon veneer patch, probably to"heal" a knot in the wood that the craftsman found distracting to the fine parallel lines of the mahogany facade. Neat dovetails lock the white pine secondary woods together, the bottom deeply chamfered and resting in rabbet grooves with nails tacking the back edge. The brasses on the drawer fronts are the second set of brasses to be on this piece, noting the single bore behind each brass that usually indicates a prior knob; however, knobs are not correct for this period. Up for auction is this beautiful Victorian folk art inlaid box with many different woods. there are all hand cut and inlaid into a finely figured walnut. the box is about 120 years old with no defects to speak of. the measurements are 11" x 7.25" x 6" The top has a 2" bevel. There are two removable iron with brass finish brackets that can be used to store mail and two brass finish sockets with removable swivel funnel holders for pens or pencils. The funnels don't rotate 360 degrees but rather all the way forward and a bit to the left. There holder comes with two pens with matching pattern. They are made of what appears to be molded resin. I grew up in Minnesota& my Dad taught me to play cribbage at an early age. it was a great pastime during those long Minnesota winters. Cribbage served me well later in life. When I was a young adult. I'd play cribbage for drinks at the local watering hole& never left thirsty. and without a new friend or two. This lovely old cribbage board is hand crafted of inlaid wood. The sides are quartersawn oak& the game area appears to be birch& maple inlays. The board is a travel board. A hinged box that holds the cards& pegs. The unusual brass clasp on this box is large& impressive. The cribbage board comes complete with four original wooden pegs. Natural patina on the brass has occurred due to the age of these commodes/nightstands. French Louis XV style marquetry commodes or nightstands are embellished with pierced brass gallery borders and ormolu mounts and paneled marquetry. The commodes are a pleasing shape with spacious tops. One nightstand opens in cabinet style while the other has 3 small but ample drawers for storage. They are circa early 20th century and are considered to be in good condition. Note each of the pictures we've taken. The marble tops have been recently buffed by a professional company. Someone suggested it may have been made by"Sorrento" because they produce this type of marquetry inlaid boxes. But that remains an unknown fact. The jewelry box was made with top quality materials both inside and out! The marquetry materials and design are seen both on the top of the lid. As well as surrounding it. And the inside is made with soft red velvet, a perfectly clear mirror, and shiny silver hinges that open the lid. Vtg 1960's Handmade Inlaid Wood Bone Round Marquetry Tray 11 3/4" Spain?
This is a vintage inlaid with several different things such as colored wood and faux ivory or bone. It has a lacquered finish that has some fine cracks to it. along the bottom edge where it attaches to another piece of wood it has asome pieces that have lifted and are missing. See the pictures. It does have a wall hanger on the back. If you hang it you cannot see the areas that have the damage they are on the top. It also doesn't look like it was ever used as a serving tray. It measures 11 3/4" and is 5/8" thick at the edge. i am guess it from Spain as most of these were made in Spain that I have seen before. Italian marquetry table, 1840's, Fair condition, 44" x 30" X 29.5"
The table has been in my father's family since imported in the 1840's. My great-great grandfather was an importer of Italian household goods in early 19th century(died in Rome 1865 from typhus) The table is in fair condition. The top is in better condition than the photo shows. It has been in use since new. It was in our house growing up. And in my great grandmothers house in NY before that. I have no room for it and have no children who are interested in it. Must be picked up. I wouldn't trust a shipper with it.

Hand inlaid, exotic woods. In incredible condition, with only a few minor surface scratches. No dings, chips, or repairs. Just beautiful ly crafted workmanship by Emil's Father in 1969. As is engraved on the back. The hanger is metal with two screws to secure it safely to the wall. It weighs 3 pounds. Offered here is a vintage Geometric artist designed marquetry inlaid picture. It is really unique and different and I think every type of wood has been used in this beautiful picture. It could also be used as a tabletop since it seems very sturdy and solid. There is a picture hanger already on the back if you did want this on your wall. Looks like there are many types of wood. I am not positive but it looks like cherry. Walnut, Birch, pine, redwood, poplar, Maple, and other types. There is a crack in one of the piece of wood but everything is solid and no loose pieces. A wonderful design by a talented artist who is unknown in California. Looks like the oak frame is also solid oak around the entire piece. It measures 15 1/2 inches by just under 23 1/2 inches. Weighs about 6 pounds without packing and box.

Offered for auction is a unique handcrafted work of art compact mirror for a purse. This purse mirror is made of Oregon Black Walnut. The beveled mirror is housed in a 2 1/2"x2 1/2 inch wooden box with a swivel that allows the mirror to be exposed with a twist. It is 9/16" deep. The design is unique to an Oregon company and contains several varieties of wood. The compact has a scratch or two. But they are not really visible. This would be a lovely and thoughtful unique gift. It is 17" high and a 15" triangle. The legs are specifically made for each part of the triangle, and gilt adorned. The Swiss Music Box is actuated when the lid is opened and of course stops upon closure. The Marquetry uses near white Boxwood or Ivory(not sure which) Ebony, possibly Sycamore, with some painted enamels, and asst. wood veneers. It has wonderful gloss that does serve as some protection. Georgian and Victorian cabinet makers and woodworkers were especially fond of marquetry. There are a multitude of examples in which they tackled with all their skills pieces of furniture. Wooden trays, boxes of all shapes and sizes, sewing accessories, and even everyday common and purposeful pieces. The word"marquetry" comes from the Old French"marqueter, to checker, and from"marque, to mark. Woods inlaid piece by piece into a wood surface in an intricate design and veneered to another surface for decoration is the principle definition of marquetry. Georgian and Victorian craftsmen were highly skilled at this type of art form. Utilitarian pieces. Such as a wooden drinks tray, may have had some limited or simple design, whereas more skilled craftsmen and artists created complex pieces of enduring beauty and value. This ... moreparticular piece of marquetry is quite rare in its design and its intended decorative use. Although wall plaques were sometimes made. That was not the norm for this type of work. There are many exotic woods that were used in this small but captivating piece. The head of the young lady is beautifully rendered and special attention was given to the creation of a fanciful bonnet, which was decorated with ribbons and bows. There is even a circular frame around the portrait made of small individual pieces of wood inlaid in a circular design to resemble a gesso frame. The use of ebony is seen throughout the piece and brings further elegance to the portrait. Here is a very nice signed Spindler marquetry inlaid chateau on water scene, the frame measures 20" wide by 16" talland the insert measures 16" wide by 12-1/4" tall.On the back it is pencil signed what appears to be Wasse Lovue, unfortunately it had been hung underneath a water leak.As you can see in the photos there is water discoloration streaks down the entire right side of its marquetry scene and discoloration to the frame a rear right but there is no lifting or separation of its inlay.Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions.Buyer pays for shipping which i will combine,thanks for looking.

This one has a lot of fine detailed work and the colors are still good like it hasn't been exposed to much light over the years. At some point the right hinge on the inside came loose and chipped out a piece of inlay that went over it(compare the good hinge shown in one of the photos) I put a new screw in it after I took the pic's. T he inside top is well decorated too. It is built very solid and it opens& closes well. I don't know anything about it other than looking at others on ebay. This item was hand made by a master craftsman in woodworking that discovered this type of artwork while on vacation in Italy. This work of art is signed by the artist. R. Muller. Handmade Egyptian Wood Marquetry Box with Inlaid Paua Shell
We purchased this intricately handmade box at a box collector's estate sale. No information on age was available however we learned it was crafted in Egypt. The ornately designed box is made of inlaid wood. Mediterranean paua shells, hand painting and what looks like bone. It's hinged, opens to reveal a red velvet-lined interior. Measures 4-3/4" X 3-1/4" X 1-3/4" high CONDITION: previously owned. Age unknown. No chips or major damage. The wood stain and finish is a bit crudely applied on the sides; a lot of handwork went into this piece.

These are remnants; cutoffs from our veneer work. There are at least 10 species here. Lots of very nice, clean pieces. There will be a few that have some dirt on them from hitting the shop floor(usually only on one side) but generally they are pretty clean. The length will be no longer then 11 inches and no wider then 8 inches so we can ship them cheaper in a flat rate Priority envelope; if you need larger strips, let us know and we'll list the next set of cutoffs with a larger shipping box.
