An unusual piece, the diminutive chest inlaid with checkerboard veneered top, the edge and sides with stringing and diagonal inlay(somewhat irregularly laid out) the top edge of the chest with wave pattern border; the front with two drawers below a slide-out extension table similarly inlaid with large floral medallion and stylized flowers within a wave border, the drawers and extension each fitted with single brass pull. The back of the chest inset with large shaped plaque inlaid with the text, possibly reading: F P B A1864 OMAEST" Dimensions: 14.75" high x 16" wide x 8.6" deep. This 10 inch tall 8 inch wide Inlaid Wood Marquetry unframed plaque/picture has very very very few light scratches that are hard to see and has no breaks or cracks. There are to not all the way through holes on back for hanging purposes. I acquired several pieces of marquetry art from the same estate. One piece, not this one) was labeled"1962 Roy Lewis Aliquippa, PA" Because they all share same style and wood trim design I believe this one to be done by Roy Lewis in the 60's. Description Handmade In Israel Set Of 3 Wall Hangings/Plaques Marquetry Wood Here are 3 Marquetry/Intarsia Plaques/Wall Hangings. Only one is clearly stamped Handmade In Israel. Only one retains the sticker that reads Set of 3. Not to be sold, take orders. The wooden pieces are not inlaid but attached like an overlay. I can only assume this is to show what a finished product would look like. These are very unique and I doubt more will surface. These were bought several years ago and I was told. Hung on the grandparents wall for many years. The wood appears to be different species of trees plus assorted stains to distinguish the outfits. The largest(Woman With Basket On Head) has the most pieces(24) It measures 12 in. tall by 9 1/4 in. wide with only one flaw. The black decoration on her head wear has a small piece of the black decoration(1/8 ... morein. missing. The Female Form Dancer measures 14 in. tall by 9 1/2 in. wide and has 13 applied pieces of wood. The Male Dancer measures 14 3/4 in. tall by 9 1/4 in. wide and has 15 pieces of wood. All measurements are of the outside of the plaque. The faces are indistinguishable. The edges are angled and ready to hang. No frame necessary. Each has a Hanger attached to the back. Presented in very good Retro condition with minor edge wear, expected in items of this age. My guess is Mid-Century. Fabulous by any standard and RARE in my opinion. Vintage Marquetry Inlaid Wood Art - framed from the 60's
This Marquetry- Inlaid Wood Framed Picture/Plaque is beautifully done. I aquired several of this type of artwork from the same place and on the back of one of the pieces. Not this one, was a label that"1962 Roy Lewis Aliquippa, PA" All the pieces had the same style and same intricate border that almost looks like part of the frame. So I believe this to be from the 60's and the artist to be Roy Lewis. In the frame, it is 18 1/2 inches wide and 23 inches tall. It weighs about 2 1/2 lbs. Previous owner may have been a smoker although I detect no odor. The artwork could probably use a cleaning, I just dusted it off. Please look at all the photos as they describe better than my words! A classic early American Fol Art of a young lady draped in a classical Greek style robe. With her head down, playing a flute. The pedestal with Grecian amphora jug. Is a typical component commonly found in mourning art from the period. The back is entirely covered with inlay in a geometric pattern. The woods used are various colors. Which contrast nicely to give the scene ... morecharacter. This retains it's original finish. And was mounted on a dark oak frame. ITEM MEASUREMENTS This measures about 13 1/2" high. 10 5/8" wide and 2 3/4" deep. THIS ITEMS CONDITION REPORT It has some missing pieces of wood and some small old nail holes. HUDSON RIVER WOOD INLAY MARQUETRY ART DEER IN FOREST SIGNED NELSON
This framed piece measures 6.75x9.75" This was made by Hudson River inlay using a marquetry medium of wood veneers. It signed(engraved) NELSON on the front bottom right corner. It is in good condition except for 2scuffed areas-one under the belly of the deer at the"ground" level. And one at the top left of the"matting" I have tried to picture both areas, but, as always, please use the picture to judge condition for yourself.
