Antique Victorian PALAIS ROYAL Sewing Box Fitted Marquetry Inlaid Wood Jewelry
For your consideration is this incredible museum quality Palais Royal sewing box. It was made circa 1880 out of a variety of exotic woods including ebony. Mahogany, rosewood, and burl maple.The lid is a stunning marquetry masterpiece of a skilled woodworker. It features an inlaid design of a lyre, trumpet, and olive or laurel branches. This escutcheon is surrounded by a geometric parquetry inlay. Inside is the sewing"Theatre" with a"stage" for the sewing tools. And an"orchestra pit" meant to house works in progress. The shapes of the orchestra pit and the framing of the mirror reflect the shape of the lyre inlaid on the lid. The interior is lined with velvet, quilted fabric, and paper in the colors of violet and white. It is trimmed with gold and white gimp and the lidded"podium" in the back is edged ... morewith handmade lace. The two compartments flanking either side of the podium are meant silk silk reels(spools) as are the two compartments on either side of the orchestra pit. The loops on the top of the doors are meant to hold various sewing and needlework tools. The largest loop on the top of the left door would hold a thimble, the other loops would hold a pair of scissors, a lace crochet hooks, a stiletto, a bodkin, and perhaps a pair of tweezers or a perfume corkscrew. Condition: Near Mint. The interior is all original and it appears to have only been slightly used with much care. The color is impeccable. Two loops of ribbon that held the original tools in place on the right door or the orchestra pit are torn. There is a small chip to the veneer along one edge. It is visible in the angled shot in the first photo. The mirror is loose behind the frame. But once its in it's new owners hands, this wont be an issue. Additional photos are available upon request. Up for sale. An antique violin coffin case in excellent condition. From the materials used, we can roughly date this case to the 1800s and the style and inlayed marquetry is indicative of a French instrument case. The original handle and latches are intact and the polished hardwood exterior is in great shape, with some beautiful figuring in the walnut. All four of the small nailed in feet on the bottom of the case are intact as well. The blue/purple interior looks to have been redone at some point in the past few decades and matches the interior contours of the case very well. As expected there are a few scratches and dings for a case that's existed for well over a century, but as the photos show, the case is surprisingly clean for its vintage. Vintage 1930's ELECTRIC brand electric clock Made in USA Clock works good. Keeps accurate time. This is a spin-starting clock movement. You plug it in, set the time with the larger knob, the turn the smaller knob very slowly counterclockwise and it starts running on it's own. It has a very faint rhythmic rattle while running, typical of old spin start clocks, maybe just gear teeth noise, but no annoying humming. The solid chunk of mahogany with inlaid marquetry on the front. Original lacquer?varnish?shellac? finish looks smooth and very shiny, some small dings, a few scrapes, nicks, but still looks good on the shelf. The bottom has four small brass balls for feet, need polishing, tarnished.The round convex glass dial lens looks good, clean no scratches nor cracks, nice brass sash. Metal dial face looks good, silvery face with black ... moredeco numbers and black hands, brass sweep hand. There's a faint scratch line in a circle from the 4 through the 10, looks like the tip of the hour hand was probably rubbing it at some time, but not now. The movement sets in it's bracket snug. Good power cord with molded Bakelite non-polarized plug. vintage Marquetry inlaid Mahogany Burl serving Tray Danish Modernism inlay sig
Offered without reserve is a very fancy. High quality vintage Inlaid Mahogany Marquetry tray from an estate. It has a lovely"ray" pattern of marquetry inlay with various wood types that contrast. I think the main wood is most likely to be Mahogany and mahogany burl. The handles are carved with sweeping ends and to my eye they have a Danish modernism look. It is signed on the back with a round stamp but I can not say what it reads, a close up photo is provided, hopefully someone will know. The bottom has wear typical of use through the years, the top also shows use wear and age checking on the finish. The age checking seems to be mainly centered on the burl areas where the natural lines of the burl grain has caused a pulling of the finish. It also has a slightly"oil slicked" look to the finish on the top where alcohol drinks ... moremay have affected the very top of the surface, it is used and probably at least 50 years old so one should expect such normal wear. The thick glossy finish on the top could probably be buffed out if desires but I have learned that most collectors prefer items to be original, overall it looks great and it displays well. It measures approx. 12 1/2" by 20" handle to handle, it is approx. 3/4" thick, hopefully someone would like to add it to a collection or can put it good use.No Reserve! have fun bidding! AAFA Wood Marquetry 19th Century Sewing Box with Tools, Original Paper Lining
Here is a nice Victorian wood sewing box. Circa mid to later 1800s, with original tools and fabric pieces, including mourning pins and box, bone and metal crochet hooks, wooden thread bobbin and a strip of old calico fabric with glass shoe buttons sewn to it. The mirror in the lid is original and the paper lining is a lovely, tiny blue floral pattern. There is period wear to the inside and no key to the box, but nice to find original sewing implements inside and the box opens easily. Would be a great gift for the antique sewing enthusiast to store collectibles. Wood appears to be walnut and maples, and the box measures about 3.5 inches in height, by 11 inches in length, by 8 inches wide. The top is slightly domed. All of the tools, fabric piece, lace and mourning pins box are included in this auction.

Antique 1890s Marquetry Top Inlaid Wood Trinket SEWING BOX
I have up for sale a very very nice antique Sewing Box. This is a very attractive box with inlaid marquetry top. Ornate deeply carved front piece, and gorgeous grained wood sides. It has a delightful small floral carved wood button on the front for opening the box. The exterior of the box is exceptional, the insides very simple with no frills. It is very possible that this was earlier a cigar box or something of that nature and then converted to a sewing box, it is difficult to say with certainty. The box is either Rosewood or Mahogany. I can not say for positive. It definitely appears to be hand made. I believe that the box would date to somewhere in the 1880s to early 1900s. The bottom of the box has written in pencil FROM GRANDPA DOERFLER 1942 but I believe that this might be when it was given as a gift but not when it was made. It measures ... moreapprox 11-1/2" across by 10-1/4" deep. And about 4-3/4" high. It weighs roughly 4 lbs 8 oz as it sits. It is in overall very nice condition! It retains the original finish and the grain on the side and back is amazing. There is a hint of odor when I open the box. Not sure what it its but I would suggest spraying something inside to help with this. The smell is not bad but noted for those who are fussy. A very fine antique. Circa 1830's- 1840's, Beidermeir style mantel clock, possibly Viennese made. The case is with a walnut? Veneer having marquetry inlay, and reeded ebonized moldings. The barley twist pillars are grain painted as rosewood. The bezel is fancy ormolu brass scrolls. The white porcelain dial has hand painted numerals. It is in working order: tells the time, coil chimes the hours and halves. The brass clockworks have no maker's mark. Includes a pendulum(new replacement) and the key. The clock measures 17-1/2" tall by 8-1/2" wide by 4-7/8" deep. Very good condition: dial with faint hairline crack, chip to veneer on front crest, block feet possibly not original. Antique marquetry spice cabinet Wood inlay 8 inch chest of drawers jewellery box
An old inlaid miniature cabinet. I am not sure whether it was made for a specific purpose. Such as a jewellery box or a spice cabinet. It has certainly been used as a spice cabinet- two of the drawers still have a faint aroma of tea. 6 drawers. Two of them covered by a sliding"door" White knob handles. There is inlaid marquetry decoration. With geometric patterns, on the fronts of the four"exposed" drawers, and in a central panel on the sliding door. I am not sure when or where this cabinet was made. But it is certainly not recent, and I would think probably in the early part of the 20th century. Condition: Basically good condition. But not perfect. It was made for practical use as well as ornament. And it has clearly been used. It has some scratches and scuffs. And some minor damage. All 6 drawers work and are basically ... moreintact. But there are minor splits in the bases of 2 small drawers, and the long drawer at the bottom(the one with the initials on the base) has more damage, as shown. The sliding"door" that covers the top 2 right-hand drawers has clearly been repaired in the past. And is a bit loose. The inlaid panel is warped, and the frame surrounding this panel has been glued together messily. It really needs to be taken apart and mended properly. It sits well in place when the cabinet is on a flat surface, but if the cabinet is tilted forward, it falls out. There are some small chips in the drawer handles. The back panel is split just above the base. One of the wooden"shelves" dividing the drawers is loose on one side. Please look at all the pictures- the damaged parts are shown clearly in the last few pictures. Handset bone inlay in varying patterns as well as wood marquetry. Words truly cannot describe the beauty and workmanship put into this piece. England in the Victorian era. The geometric pattern is made of small bits of different naturally colored woods. The creative genius that is displayed in this beautiful table is evident the moment you begin to study the details, artistry, thought and talent that went into this marvelous marquetry end table. The upper tier displays the scripted Galle' signature set into place as part of the foliage pattern, found towards the lower right side of the scalloped edging. The legs are gently splayed and sturdy. This lovely table has been part of my living room decor for more than 50 years. Several items have been ... moredisplayed on this table for all of those years, as the photos herein illustrate. It is still a strong and sturdily constructed table. The dimensions of this artwork are: 29" in height. The top tier is 27" across by 20" in depth; the bottom tier is 20" across by 12 1/2" in depth. On the top tier we see a natural setting of flowering plants in a quiet glen. Many beautiful woods are used to interpret these living plants. The woodsy touches are brought into play with the use of burls and knots from different tree sources. The graceful softness of growing flowers is ingeniously created with the use of wood veneers cut to fill a designated space in a plan, as if an artist was painting the scene with a brush. The lower tier is similarly decorated with flowers.This table is a gem in quality and condition. There is one minor problem, which can be easily corrected. Towards the back, right side of the upper tier, there is a slither of satinwood trim missing from the apron, which can be easily matched and attached where the piece is missing.This is a truly marvelous sample of ART NOUVEAU beauty. This listing is for a lovely antique French Napoleon III era jardiniere or plant box with serpentine shaping. Gilt ormolu accents, a wood marquetry inlay and a darling hand painted cupid/cherub porcelain placque. Adorning the walnut marquetry are gilt side handles. A gilt band surrounding the lower section of the planter, as well as a gilt reticulated rim to the jardiniere top. The oval Sevres style porcelain plaque is secured and encased in a gilt ormolu frame. The original tin liner is intact. The jardiniere measures 6- 1/2 inches in height. 13 inches in length, and 9 inches in width. The plaque measures 3 inches in width and 1 3/4 inches tall. The jardiniere(with liner) weighs 4 pounds, 6 ounces. Condition Issues The overall appearance of the jardiniere is very good. Given it's age and purpose. Pair Dutch Rococo marquetry dining side chairs with figural splats c1700 A rare true matched pair of Dutch rococo marquetry side chairs. Circa 1700, featuring the finest early Dutch inlay work. The center splats are inlaid with classical male and female draped figures composed of pewter, brass, and ivory. The frames are inlaid with pewter and ivory floral vines. Both chairs have their original inset balloon seats with old silk covers. Each chair measures 42.25 inches to the top, 20 inches across the front, 22 inches deep at the knees, 18.5 inches high to the seat, and 17 inches deep inside the seat. This pair of chairs was both time consuming and expensive to make, requiring the hand of an expert craftsman. They were probably made for a Dutch aristocrat as part of a large dining set.
