Vintage c1940 Mahogany Coffee Table Carved with Marquetry Refurbished
Lovely mahogany coffee table from the 1940s that came from an estate. I did a light refurbish on this piece mainly to brighten up the wood and also made a very minor repair to the scrolling on one end of the table that is not noticeable unless scrutinized up close. Overall it is in excellent condition and features applied scrolled carved detail on the sides with bookmatched veneer and marquetry on the top. There are a couple of blemishes on the top as shown in the photos and a few spots where there is a loss of finish. It measures 39”w x 19 ½”w x 14 ½”h. Manufacturer unknown as it is not marked. Marquetry Inlaid Wood Framed Picture Vintage R. Lewis 60's Deer scene
This Marquetry- Inlaid wood framed deer scene is a wonderfully done piece of art. Framed. It is 25 1/2 inches tall and 21 1/2 inches wide. The frame has a couple light scratches, small) but the artwork seems undamaged- no cracks, splits, stains, or divits. Previous owner may have been a smoker although I detect no odor. It could probably use a cleaning though, I only dusted it off. I acquired several marquetry pieces from the same estate, one of them was marked with a label that said"Roy Lewis 1962 Aliquippa PA" Because of that and the similarities in style and the same wood trim design on the edge of each piece I believe this one to be done in the 60's by Roy Lewis. I have some of the other pieces currently listed if you would prefer a different but equally beautiful scene. Please look at all the photos as they describe better ... morethan my words. This Marquetry- Inlaid Wood Framed Picture/Plaque is beautifully done. I believe it is a Biblical scene. I aquired several of this type of artwork from the same place and on the back of one of the pieces. Not this one, was a label that"1962 Roy Lewis Aliquippa, PA" All the pieces had the same style and same intricate border that almost looks like part of the frame. So I believe this to be from the 60's and the artist to be Roy Lewis. In the frame, it is 18 1/2 inches wide and 23 inches tall. It weighs about 2 1/2 lbs. C.1890- Superb This is an utterly stunning piece of antique Meiji period Japanese furniture– a small Tansu chest(probably a type known as a Haribako. Used for storing small objects, and ideal for use as a jewellery cabinet) It dates to the very late 19 th century. Measuring 11.5” wide by 11” tall and 7” deep. It is entirely covered to the front, top, sides and back with marquetry work of the most amazing quality and design. There are a large number of exotic woods used in the marquetry, which is continued on the inside of the doors and drawer fronts, with ornate brass metal work hinges, clasps and handles. This piece is in excellent condition– there is a 1cm triangle of ... morewood missing on the front lower corner of one internal drawer. But no other damage or repair– the front door catch is stuck, so the doors stay closed with the aid of a tiny piece of blu-tack behind them. The front, sides and top have also recently been re-lacquered to the high quality you see here. Although such antique Japanese pieces can be found for sale, they are usually rather plainly decorated compared to this example, but even so still command high prices and great interest from collectors. I'm offering a very nice antique marquetry or inlaid box. This box is handmade of brazilian rosewood. I don't know what kind of wood the inlay is. But it's quite unusual in that it has been burned on some of the edges. The wood has been sanded to a natural finish and seems to be unwaxed. Definitely no varnish. The cork bumpers are replaced. I don't have a definitive date for the box, but it was quite filthy when I aquired it. It has been carefully cleaned. Here we offer a delightful little Pedestal Stand. This piece is made of mixed woods and is right about the turn of the last century at 1900. There is a long band of inlaid Marquetry Inlay across the front. The top and sides are a veneer over wood. On the bottom it has little round feet(see picture) However one is missing. The Feet are only plain little raised circles and one can be replaced to match the other two. The piece has its original finish. It has a inset place around the edge where a glass dome may have one stood. For now if would make a perfect Antique Stand for many display items. The piece measures 10 1/8" in dia. by 2 1/8" tall. Prettiest Antique French Marquetry Inlaid Box c.1860
A magnificent and pretty box. One of the most delightful I have had in a while. The shaped box with it's domed lid is covered in Burr Cedar with Kingwood cross-banding. The box is inlaid with a ribbon and bow design created from Kingwood and Harewood and finished with Mother of Pearl. The little nacre stars really do sparkle like stars in the light. The box opens to reveal the original mirror in the lid with the bottom having been re-lined in a suitable paper creating a fresh clean finish, ready to use for whatever you wish. The incredibly detailed and designed parquetry and marquetry with the period burled and figured and straight walnut, the original hardware to include the locksets and a key which fits the top cabinet door, the locking mechanism for the bottom right small drawer which is brilliant, the serpentine drawers.especially the long and thin side drawers, the original dark blue velvet on the desk top surface when opened, the somewhat squaring of the top with what appears as faux bamboo around the top edge and just the attention to detail. Look at the photos.you will ... moresee. The hand constructed details are super interesting with the contrasting inlays. The German. Belgian, Dutch and Austrian cabinetmakers of the time were known for their superior craftsmanship. The original period finish is what has even turned into more conrasts as the patina has mellowed on the entire piece. Open the locking cabinet door and find an open space with the locking mechanism for the lowes small right hand drawer. And, by the way, all of the drawers are marked as to where they belong. This lower drawer will stay locked until the small mechanism is pressed to release the drawer to open. All of the drawers are covered in a really cool paper which has obviously been there for over 100 years and maybe longer. It has a very silvery look to it. Not sure if the secondarywood but all of the surfaces are hand planed and the bottom of the large drawer is one wide board.hand planed. Of course. Drawers and case pieces are all hand dovetailed. IT IS VERY ORNATE, WITH A GEOMETRIC MARQUETRY INLAY THROUGHOUT THE BODY. THE TOP DECK AND SEVERAL AREAS OF THE PIECE ARE MADE OF MAHOGANY. THE BELLOWS LOOK GOOD[I RAN A BRIGHT FLASHLIGHT THROUGH IT WITH NO LIGHT BLEEDING THROUGH] IT IS NOT PERFECT, BUT WOULD MAKE A FINE RESTORATION PROJECT, AS IT IS ALL THERE AND MIGHT SIMPLY NEED A GOOD GOING THROUGH. THE STRAP IS NOT ORIGINAL TO THE PIECE[MUCH LATER] SCHUBERT USED A HIGH ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE INSTRUMENT, AND IT SHOWS. Beautiful vintage wooden serving tray featuring colorful. Exotic butterfly wings under glass. The rich mahogany wood around the perimeter of the glass is decorated with inlaid wood pieces. Approx. measurements of tray: 21" L x 13" W. inner glass: 15.5" L x 11.25" W. Condition: Vintage. Overall very good condition with some scratches on the wood, These type trays were made in the 1940’s in Brazil as souvenirs.
