They are surprisingly heavy at 1.9kg for the pair. Queen Size 1930's Vintage Marquetry Carved Bedroom Set. 8 Pc. This splendid 8 piece bedroom set from the 1930's includes a queen size bed. Nightstand, tall chest on chest, dresser, vanity or desk, bench and two wall mirrors. Walnut is inlaid with matched tiger maple. Burl and exotic wood marquetry, enhanced with a superb finish. Drawers have solid oak dovetailed sides. Embossed brass hardware is original on this American made vintage furniture We find no signature on this set, which shows exceptional quality in every detail. The bed has steel side rails and is furnished with an upholstered platform or bunky" board to use instead of a spring unit which could hide much of the headboard. The standard queen size mattress shown in photos is 8" thick. Measurements are 85" long, 58" wide, the headboard is 52" tall ... moreand the footboard is 23" high. Nightstand size is 16" wide. 14" deep and 28 1/2" tall. Chests have sliding caddies in the top drawers. The tall chest on chest or highboy is 38"wide. 23" deep and 54" high. But tiny, Japanese miniature chest of two drawers with a geometrically inlaid front- dating from somewhere around 1920, I should say. It requires a bit of work as one corner joint is a little loose and it could do with a clean and polish. Size: 6 cm high x 4.5 cm wide x 6.3 cm deep(2 3/8 x 1 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches) weight: 53 grammes Payment must be made within 7 days of winning bid unless other arrangements have been made. Since he tends to make larger pieces as of late, it's always wonderful to find one of the 9 x 12 artwork pieces still available. This piece is made from 12 different wood types that come together to form the"Mallard Drake. You are viewing a gorgeous w&j sloane N.Y. marquetry Round table in the Sheraton Style? It's both a practical and decorative piece. They are great for displaying vases of flowers on. Perhaps in an entry way. It's mind boggling when you think of the amount of work that goes into making something like this- especially the marquetry work where the individual designs have to be cut from softer wood and then embedded into the main wood of the structure. Doctor's apothecary box dating from around the turn of the century with the two hand-painted gilt medicine bottles and stoppers inside. The box also has a wooden rack which has 17 openings measuring 5/8" in diameter for test tubes or bottles(bottles not included) The inside of the box has a padded velvet lining on the inside of the lid. It is in very good condition. The rest of the interior is mahogany. There is a light ... morestain on the portion of the interior that is the tube rack(see photo of interior) The box measures 8-3/4" tall. 7-1/4" wide and 7-3/4" deep. It is mahogany with extensive and highly detailed inlay in various light-colored woods including a Satinwood checkered banding on all 5 visible sides. The edges are trimmed and there are marquetry floral rosettes on the top and front each different and hand-inlaid. The design appears to be Art Nouveau which would date this to 1880- 1920 time period. I am guessing the maker to be French, but that's only my opinion. There are no missing pieces of the marquetry, but there are some areas of separation of the seams due to age. There is also a split across the veneer on the top, just to the top of the floral rosette(photo 7) It does not affect the stability of the box or lid, it is only as deep as the veneer. The only marking is on the lock. The locking mechanism is working fine and has the key. It is marked"HOBBS LEVER LONDON" which was a premier lock company in London from 1851 through the turn of the century. Late 18th-Early 19th C. Probably New England. Of square shape, the slant lid with an attached pincushions at the center and along the underside; the surface of the box inlaid with geometric parquetry borders, the back with star, the sides with flowers and the front with date: Anno 1776" the interior with small shelf and lined with a red paper printed with gold floral pattern. The front fitted with functioning lock and brass key plate(2 keys provided) The date on the box possibly marking the date of manufacture or. More likely, commemorating the year of American Independence from Britain. Items commemorating this event were common in the immediate ... moreyears following 1776 and this box was likely made produced in the years between 1776 and 1801 when the Federalist Party was dominant in American politics. Dimensions: 6.8" high x 10.375" wide x 9.125" deep. Weight: 2.52 lbs. Condition: Overall. The box is in fair condition with appropriate signs of age. The box appears to have been restored with cracks and a few losses to the wood inlay(a few additional pieces of inlay are pulling up slightly) The hinges repaired or possibly replaced. The cover is warped slightly(a gap along the left edge when closed) and the pin cushion is heavily worn with tears to the fabric. The paper lining to the interior is worn and the top/middle of the brass key plate to the front possibly broken-off. Both keys seem to function in the lock and the lid does lock properly. Oriental Scene Marquetry 11" x 15" Inlaid Wood Mounted Wall Plaque Vintage
This is a vintage. Probably not an antique, lovely Oriental scene made entirely of small inlaid pieces of wood. The detail is amazing; you can see the bricks in the chimney and cinderblocks for the buildings, the long staircase with the woman appearing out of the archway, heading down the many-shaped stones on the street, etc. Scene is 7 5/8" wide x 11 1/4" tall. It is mounted on a canvas-covered backer board which is 11 1/4" x 14 3/4" which has hangers attached to the backside. Item is in good, vintage condition. Fabulous large antique planter with original removable lid with original handles and detailed musical marquetry theme featuring a lute. A horn, sheet music, and florals. The top of the piece has a brass pierced gallery and each leg features several detailed cast ormolu collars. The top side panels are also exquisitely inlaid and detailed, as are the two lower shelves of the piece. Fantastic pair of matching French side tables from the 1920's. Purchased recently from an antique auction house these tables are exquisite. Being antiques. The tables have a few minor flaws and at least one repair but considering they are almost 100 years old, the condition is relatively excellent. No structural problems or major cosmetic issues. The most apparent flaws are captured in the photos. Tables are 19" diameter and 27" tall. There is another table on ebay that is almost identical and is obviously by the same manufacturer. R.J. Horner Mahogany Marquetry Bedroom Set - Twin Bedframe & Dressing Table
A rare set likely made by R.J. Horner over 100 years ago. It features gorgeous workmanship in mahogany. With exceptional wood and mother-of-pearl marquetry and hand-carved crowns. My parents bought this set for me 47 years ago from Kaye Sheridan Antiques in Los Gatos. CA. Mrs. Sheridan didn't identify it as R.J. Horner, but, years later, when I was doing research to find out more about what I had. I discovered pictures of the exact pieces attributed to R.J. Horner. I can't imagine any firm exactly reproducing Horner's work, so I'm certain this set is a Horner. When my parents bought the set. Its varnish was yellow and crazed, after owning it a number of years, I decided to refinish it using Formby's Refinisher and Tung Oil. I know now I probably shouldn't have done that yet its beauty was so diminished by that varnish ... moreand now it glows. I used the set for many. Many years and took loving care of it. It got a few scratches over time but basically it's as it was upon purchase. There was some minor wear on the lower edges of the side rails but nothing that detracts from its beauty. All the bolts holding it together are original. Again. I don't have a tag validating its authenticity, and have priced it accordingly. I'm hoping the set will find a home with someone who will love the beauty. Now to the details: The bed supports a twin or extra-long twin mattress and boxspring and is perfect for a guestroom or child's bedroom. The sides rails screw into the headboard and footboard so you can take it apart easily for transport. Mahogany & French Marquetry Inlaid Occasional Center Writing Desk Library Table
I wish I could take pictures that do a little bit better job of showing the color and minute detail in the inlay work performed on this piece. So. Try to use your imagination. The table is nicer then the pictures reflect. To be sure as to rather or not this piece is from France or American made I cant be positive. However, I have been told it is French and over 100 years old. For sure this is the best inlay work I can remember seeing including the mother of pearl laid in place throughout the piece. Description: Fantastic looking and extremely unusual 1960s era hippie style earrings rack or jewelry holder in wood marquetry. I have never come across any other holder like this in the many years I have sold jewelry. This is a truly beautiful piece with a historic feel to it. To me it feels like the maker was influenced by Arts and Crafts or Art Nouveau. I guess that does make sense since a lot of 1960s art was influenced by Alphonse Mucha Art Nouveau design. This piece is beautifully made and well signed by the maker. On the bottom there is a branded maker logo that you can see in the detail closeup pictures, to me the initials look to be StA. There are knobs on the front and back of the rack so you could also hang a couple of bracelets if you desire. The rack sits on a tabletop or dresser surface, but if you drilled the base properly you ... morecould also hang it on a wall. The earring racks are the lighter wood with stained edging, just beautiful. There are a total of 46 holes. The rack measures 9-1/4 inches front-to-back X 6-5/8 inches high. The base measures 5-1/2 inches diameter. The earring racks measured in total from left to right vary from 8 inches across for the longest racks to 3 inches across on the shortest racks. The individual sides, or each half of the racks, measure 1-3/16 inches on the shortest one to 3-1/2 inches on the longest one. At some point in the far past there was some shallow insect damage to the surface of the wood, and so there are shallow ulcerated spots where this happened. This happened a long time ago and there is no longer any activity of any kind. The areas are very shallow and they don't stand out since the wood has repatinated to a dark, even color and they blend in on normal viewing. We have shown how they look in the detail closeup pictures. The only ones that look bad are on the bottom of the piece and you will not see this since that will be either against the wall or standing on a table top. I think it is made of golden oak.Not sure though,and it has Beautiful Marquetry. It has black strings i don't know who they are made by.Or what notes they are in. The bridge looks new. It has 10 tension screws around it.And the skin is in very good condition. It has a resonator which you can take off.To make it not as loud. The resonator is inlaid with different woods( Marquetry) on the back.And around the pot bit. It measures approx 61 cm long.And is in good condition for it's age. But please realise this is not a new instrument.It is vintage about 70 to 80 years old,it has bubble to the Marquetry on the pot.And it looks like one tension hook has been replaced. Has nine drawers.And two external doors,plus a lift up section at the top. Condition is good for this delicate piece.There is wear and tear,scratches,chips mainly to edges and joins. The lift up top has some slight warpage and the hinges look to have been replaced sometime in the past(also ... moreone compartment cover is missing on the right)The drawers and doors open and close fine.But there is no key.The doors do have a little play due to the delicate old hinges. Also nothing major.But noted two of the inner drawer handles on the left hand side have been replaced at some time in the past. All said this is a beautiful rare antique cabinet.Totally original and a great example of high craftmanship.Becoming increasingly hard to find and a great investment.
