This is a Vintage Japanese Yosegi/ Marquetry 4 Sun Puzzle Box. The box exhibits the beautiful craftsmanship typical of Japanese artisans who create these wonderful traditional puzzles. These boxes are often used for storing a priced object. Money, etc. The box sizes are classified according to the longest dimension. The 4 Sun traditional Japanese units of measurement corresponds to the longest dimension being approximately 12 CM(4 5/8" I fumbled on the last few steps a couple of times. But I solved the puzzle box and opened the box lid. However, when I tried to reverse the steps to fully close, I was not able to do so. I am not sure where I went wrong but I am confident that the box, is in good working order and we will guarantee your satisfaction in that regard. This auction is for ONE vintage Middle Eastern Khatam jewellery box.The technique used to decorate inside and outside the box is ancient traditional marquetry. Different types of fruit and colored wood are joined together with brass rods. Glued, sliced and applied in incredible precise and colorful patterns. Patterns are divided by rows of thin bone or ebony bands. This skillful work has passed on through many generations. The top of the box is hand painted and signed by the artist. This jewellery box was probably made in the 70's and is in excellent condition. It is 10" long. 7" wide and 5" high.

VINTAGE FRENCH Time Worn Treasures This gorgeous antique French burl wood box dates to around the mid to late 19th century. The box has a number of veener inlays. The most decorative being used on the lid. The larger section being walnut burl. With stringing of ebony and oak. Inset into the middle of the walnut is a fabulous marquetry cartouche of ebony and brass. 3 of the sides are again made from burl wood and the front side. I believe from oak. There is a little brass key hole but alas the key is no longer with the box. On the inside is a duck egg blue silk. Unfortunately the silk is grubby and there is some areas where it has gone thru. The box is a little timeworn. In that it has a slightly warped lid. And some of the veneer has cracked and there are little dings at the corners. The cartouche has lost a tiny piece of ebony. Please study ... morethe photographs carefully. As I took shots of all the sides to give you a good visual description. For all its small faults. This box is still beautiful to behold and could either have some gentle restoration. Or even stay as it is. It has a fabulous classic elegance. It measures 7¾" square and is 3" tall. Which flourished in the 18th Century. Table is done in Marquetry, which is the art of applying pieces of veneer to create amazingly intricate designs. Table has a lacquered finish and is covered with hand-painted veneers in delicate roses and filigree in various colors and tones. All four legs have decorative brass mounts. Table is in great structural shape. But does have some chip repairs on the edge and there are cracks in the veneer across the entire surface and legs. Signed Antique Longcase Grandfather London Clock with Marquetry circa 1700 This beautiful bird and floral Marquetry ornamented Long Case Clock has an 8 day movement and was made in London circa 1700. The case features twist columns. A pendelum window, measures 81.5 inches tall. 15 inches wide. And 8.25 inches deep. The 11 inch square brass face has ringed windings. A silver chapter ring, Roman numeral hours, and brass winged cherub head spandrels. The face is signed but the name is partly obscured. It appears to be signed“David Wych” or Wyche) and clearly shows“Londoni fecit. See Photos) The clock movement has been cleaned. Oiled, adjusted, runs well, and keeps accurate time. Given some light wear on the face and slight wood cracking this clock is in very good antique condition.
