Plaque: Very Detailed Antique Marquetry Wood Panel, Madonna And Child
This is a very detailed and beautifully made Madonna and Child plaque. Probably made in either Germany or Italy. I don't recognize most of the woods used but I think the background may be curly maple. I also see oak, mahogany, possibly boxwood, sycamore, pine and birch. This is lovely and far more detailed than most marquerty plaques that are available today. There is a diagonal border inside the oak frame border which is made of hundreds of small slivers of all the different woods. There are five layers of wood for a total thickness of about 7/16" Height is 16" Width is 12" The surface is not completely smooth. This is easily visible when you enlarge the photographs. The panel appears to be very old. There is no polyurethane coating to smooth it and the different kinds of wood have aged in their own way. Please ask if ... moreyou have any questions. Estate Antique MARQUETRY Shell & PARQUETRY Inlaid ITALIAN Wooden Box - HUMIDOR
NO RESERVE AUCTION This auction is for a beautiful antique inlaid ITALIAN wooden box featuring marquetry and parquetry designs. This is a work of art with lovely inlaid seashell design. This antique box which years ago was converted to a humidor with a hard plastic lining and sponge for humidity control. Brass feet. Fabric lining of lid, black painted wooden, bottom, and mirror was also added to this antique Italian wooden box. I do not see any evidence of loss of the inlaid wood. MOP escutcheon has a crack. I do not have the key to the box. There are some loss of paint and scuffs to the corner which could easily be touched up. The hinges are secure and the lid opens and closes easily. The interior lining for cigars is intact with the lid fitting securely. The box measures 9 by 11 by 8 3/4 inches tall and weighs 7 pounds. Antique Inlaid Marquetry Drop Leaf Pembroke Style W Drawer Victorian Centennial
This is a fabulous little antique elaborately inlaid marquetry pembroke dropleaf gate leg table with a tiny drawer. The table is hand made with hand cut joinery and some dovetailing. The drawer sides are scalloped which seems unusual. I believe it dates to the late 19th early 20th century but could be earlier. It came from an English family and I'm guessing it's English but not positive. You really don't see these around anymore and the tiny size makes it a perfect little accent piece that is both practical and decorative. Condition is very good to excellent. Someone changed or tried to change the hinges at some point and never finished so that will have to be done. It also has two areas of veneer chipped. One is smaller then the size of a dime and the other is a very small edge chip. The center board it a slightly different shade ... morethen the side boards. I guess due to the way it was stored. ART DECO INLAID MARQUETRY WOOD IRIDECENT BLUE MORPHO BUTTERFLY WING TRAY 1930's
This is an Art Deco 1930's-40's inlaid mahogany wood tray made in Brazil. The center has Morpho butterflies and butterfly wings designed in a beautiful pattern. The glass protecting the butterflies measures L 11 1/4" X W 71/4" The colors are iridescent blue. Burnt orange, brown and black and burnt umber.The tray measures L 16 1/4" X W 9 1/8" The inlaid wood marquetry is done in three different kinds of wood. The darker colored wood I believe is ebony. This kind of craftsmanship is truly a dying art. On the back is a metal picture loop so this work of art can be hung on your wall. There isn't any damage to the butterflies or any of the wings. The glass doesn't have any scratches on it. There is a tiny hole on the wood by one of the handles and it is about the size of the end of a pencil tip. Overall the box is in quite good condition for its old age but the wood could use some cleaning and conditioning. The only glaring flaw I can find in this piece is that a seam on the right side of the inner cigarette pouch has come undone. Otherwise it is quite a solidly and nicely built box. Very very old humidor measures 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" tall. Has signs of wear. The lid needs a hinge. Lined in tin. I think it could be lacquered back to become a beauty. We bought it 60 years ago in an antique shop. To me it is beautiful old time marquetry done by European Artisans.

This auction is for the mirror only. This is a BEAUTIFUL INLAID MARQUETRY vintage(1970's) wood with beveled mirror from ITALY! TERRIFIC WALL MIRROR for anywhere in your home! Th e inlaid marquetry wood design is just GORGEOUS with flowers and scrolls and more! This is done in a labor intensive procedure entirely by hand! The center flowers top are a peach and yellow. The ones on the bottom are a rust and beige. The other decor is a lighter beige color inlaid into a BEAUTIFULLY GRAINED darker wood. This was my own piece. I got it in the 70's and have had it all of these years in storage as we redecorated and couldn't use it so it is time to find a new home with someone who can enjoy it! This box has an exotic look! It is a vintage chess game. Box is about 10" x 10" and is about 2 1/2" tall. It has an overall protective finish, but board does have some damage on one corner, some yellowing, a spot and some cracking. A fine antique Sorrento marquetry and pen work puzzle box. 19th century. The base of the box slides forward, allowing the middle vertical"volume 5 book" to slide down, revealing the key hole. Also, the bottom horizontal book slides off to the right, allowing a piece on the right side to slide forward, revealing a secret compartment underneath. The lid of the box is inlaid with the monogram"AF" within a tin inlayed oval band, having pen work twigs. The box is beautiful with some wear and tear commensurate with age. Minor overall surface wear. Fabric lining is dusty and loose on the top right side. Four of the vertical volumes on the front have fine hairline cracks, which are stable. The underside of the lid has a most interesting raised pattern. Measures about 4-1/4 by 3-1/4 and is about 2-1/4 inches high. This is in very good condition with one exception- the upper right corner of the top has a small chip to the finish. This listing is for a vintage Katham Kari. Inlaid mosaic wood backgammon& chess folding board or box. It measures 11 3/4 in. X 12 in. and 2 1/2 in. tall when closed. The squares are a little under 1 in. for the chess pieces. It's in great condition and the backgammon pieces, which also have an inlaid center, were never even opened. There are 3 dice, one is large and 2 are small. All you need are the chess pieces. The front has a brass closure and works well. These inlaid boxes are really amazing and take hours to make. A beautiful Italian manufacture dresser with beveled mirrors and crafted marquetry dated around 1890. Strung with boxwood. The serpentine cornice and conforming deep frieze above three mirrored panels, the base with a marble top over two long drawers on baluster front legs. This is loosely based on late 18th century models with its delicate inlays and elegant feet. Marquetry is a decorative surface treatment in which thin pieces of wood. Mother of pearl or metal are laid together in a pattern which is affixed to another sturdier support, usually on furniture or wood boxes. The word comes from the French word"marqueterie" The technique has been used for centuries. Examples go as far back as ancient Egypt, where Egyptian tomb paintings show marquetry furniture being made and some of that furniture still exists. This is a lovely walnut box that I would imagine would have been a work box at some time. It is completely unfitted and would make a nice workbox or jewellery box. It has marquetry bands and mother of pearl decoration. The inside has been painted green. This has clearly been used a lot over the years and as you can see there are a few knocks.but overall the wood is in nice condition. Sadly there is not a key. 1947 Handmade Inlaid St. Olaf's Castle Wood Marquetry Box, Finland
This is a most unusual work of folkart from Finland. A handmade rich grained wood box of inlaid marquetry featuring a picture of St. Olaf's Castle on the top, and signed and dated. The box was created in 1947 by Toivo Nyholm and is marked as being"Olavin Linna/Ologs Borg" which means"Olaf's Castle. St. Olaf's Castle in Finland is a mighty fortress dating back to the 15th century and was successful in fending off advances by Russia in the Russian Wars as well as other incursions. Considering its age of 1947. The marquetry and wood grain finish of the box is very rich. The wood grain appears to be burl-like. The only obvious flaw is that one of the 4 feet are missing on the bottom, which is an easy fix although the box is still stable for display.
