This fine antique George III sterling silver samovar has plain urn shaped form supported by a spreading circular pedestal foot onto a plain square base and four bun style feet. The plain upper portion of the body is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved crest displaying a stag’s head couped. Between the attires a cross pattée above an Earls coronet and coat of arms quarterly, in the first and forth within a double tressure flory counter-flory three mullets, and to the second and third three cross pattée. The incurved shoulders of this impressive samovar are encircled with fine panels of bright cut engraved floral and leaf ornamentation flanked with bands of reed decoration. The lower portion of the body is embellished with impressive embossed fluted decoration. The decoration to the lower portion incorporates a fine and impressive reed decorated spigot. The spigot retains the impressive original semi-circular shaped carved natural handle. The samovar is fitted with a pair of fine and impressive narrow loop carrying handles embellished with singular leaf designs which are incorporated into the shaped thumbpieces. The collared upper terminal of each handle is embellished with an impressive chased decorated leaf ornament. This impressive Georgian samovar retains the original plain waisted push fit cover embellished with bright cut engraved and pin struck undulating borders and a band of reed decoration to the rim. This rare vintage Grateful Dead antique is a perfect and great addition to any living or bedroom. The piece measures approximately 30 inches by 30 inches and has a dedicated mirror inside. The material is a beautiful type of stained wood and takes the shape of a family crest. It is my belief it is from the Rick Griffen design Axomoxa era and perhaps custom made. The upper right has an area that can be restored as seen in picture and as well as the backside. see photo detail) There is also a strip of black velcro on the bottom half. There are some minor cosmetic imperfections on the finish. A section of the piece was broken at one point in time and professionally repaired using the strongest material by one of the best woodworkers and finishers in the bay area. evidence of this break can be seen on the line running from left to right on the ... morebackside above the mirror(see photo detail) visually it looks perfect from the frontside and only evident on the back. It is my belief it was made stronger and should last a lifetime. The item and the wood is very solid through and through. And again selling AS IS. Rick Griffin, did the artwork for this piece advertising January 12-14, 1968, shows at San Francisco's Avalong Ballroom. Acts included Quicksilver Messenger Service, Kaleidoscope, and Charley Musselwaite, with lights by Jay Abrams Head. SEE MORE PHOTOS BELOW. This is the super-rare"Type 2" version of the first printing. According to Classic Posters. The more common"Type 1" first printing was printed on uncoated index stock with a woven texture, which tends to collect a good amount of offset ink on the back. The Type 2 original was also printed on uncoated index stock, but with no woven texture on the back. Classic Posters says the Type 2 ... moreversion is quite rare. Antique Victorian Era Cast Iron Griffin Dragon Candle Holder
Storage Unit Auction Find: Up for bid today: I have a cool little Victorian Era Cast Iron Candle holder in the shape of a Griffin or Dragon. I have seen several of these in the past. Most state that there are two different color types(gold or black) but it seems to me, that they were all painted in gold, and after years of use the gold paint wears off. You can see that the point that are used to hold it are black, but in the areas not touched(between the wings, Etc. are still gold in color. These were very durable so the are in great condition, with no rusting or damages. It does have minor surface scratches, but still has the original screw, and the part that holds the candle screws off and in not stripped out. The holder does have some wax still present, and small areas with specks of wax that had dripped over the edges. Vintage Shoe Shine Box Filled With Griffin Polish
This is a nice vintage wooden shoe shine box filled with Griffin polish& accessories. It measures 10 1/2" long by 7 1/2" wide and stands 9" tall(including the foot rest on top) The surface shows wear in scratches and stains with a little water damage on the back at the top and bottom seams. It all feels very sturdy and will last for years to come. There are no markings that I can find on the box so I am unsure of its origin and year of manufacture.
