Here we see our lady dressed in a Day Dress from the Victorian Times. Her dress is ruffled layers in shades of blue with pink trim. A jaunty hat with veil completes her outfit. These finely carved plaster cameos by Giovanni Liberotti were made for the travelling aristocrats making the infamous"Grand Tour" during the 1800's. They are individual numbered pieces mounted in a double sided vellum book like case. With handwritten indentifying descriptions written in Italian. This volume is titled on the spine"Museo Capitolino" which feature famous ancient sculptures and historic figures( includes owners partial handwritten translation page) There are 51 oval cameos. All are in excellent condition with no cracks or damage. Some may show some dust. Soiling, or small stain, but otherwise crisp and clean. All ... moreof the cameos are tight and secure in their oval black frames. T hey are glued 26/ 25 per side along the edge of the black trim. Most are well attached but a few have come loose from the book( 2) and need spot of gluing. The book itself is in great condition. Spine is nice. Both covers are well attached. There is a little separation at a seam on top and inner green lining, but no looseness or movement. No repairs I can see. Inside and outside vellum shows some wear but nice color. Corners and edges show wear, one dent along one top edge, otherwise nice. This auction is for one(1) book only. I have a total of 4 volumes that are listed now separately. If interested in the set. Description ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY FINE ITALIAN GRAND TOUR BRONZE FIGURE OF LORENZO HEIGHT 15.6cm This antique circa 2nd half 19th century Italian Grand Tour bronze figure of Lorenzo after the life size marble sculpture by Michelangelo in the Medici Tomb. It is modeled as a seated Lorenzo de'Medici, Duke of Urbino from the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo in Florence Italy. The figure was given the nickname'The Thoughtful One' il Pensieroso) reflecting the character of its subject, he holds a napkin with his index finger raised to his lips, with his head turned down and to the side, his animal face helmet shading his face while his elbow rests of a closed money box with fierce mask handle. This lovely little figurine has a shaped plinth and sits on a rectangular white veined red marble base with chamfered edges. The piece is apparently ... moreunmarked, but has quite a bit of chased, engraved and filed hand detailing/finishing. CONDITION It is in good condition with no damage or repair. The legs and arms were cast separately and soldered to the body. There are a couple of spots of blobby solder showing. The surface of the bronze is gilded but there are old patinated areas. The marble base has one or two small areas in-filled with marble particle paste, probably done at the time of manufacture. For sale is an antique Photo Album. It appears to run from about 1905 to 1908 but mostly 1906& 1907. There are a small number at the end from as late as 1920. The album itself measures about 7" by 11" with over 90 pages. Most of the pages are filled. A few pages toward the end are empty. In total there are about 270 photos. I obviously can not show all the pages so I have included what I find to be the more interesting ones. Now this album has pictures from literally all over the world. This family certainly took a World Grand Tour but I am also guessing that this album may include several different vacations. I will list now most of the places they visited and photographed in general the best that I can tell: NORWAY. FRANCE, SWITZERLAND, ITALY, ENGLAND, ROME, CHINA, JAPAN, SAN FRANCISCO, HAWAII, EGYPT, JERUSALEM, GREECE, MONACO, ... moreand the ADIRONDACKS. I think the family may have been from the Adirondak region but this is only a guess? There may be other countries too but I am not very good at Geography. There are loads of towns and cities too in these countries that I am not listing here. Some cool stuff not noted are a nice picture of them riding in their REO Speedwagon, several ship and steamer pics, a pic of Stonehedge and some cool street scenes. The last picture is one of my favorite. I thick this might be from their hometown and it is just so dramatic! Really shows how hard times were back then. I think the family name was Honeyman since it says that with the date 1907 at the beginning of the album on the left side in the very first picture. I like that cool blue-tinted picture too in that same pic. Must be some weird cool type of photo or processing? The condition of the album in general is good with normal wear from age and use. Many of the pages are no longer bound due to the pages drying-up and getting brittle so that when you turn the pages they break away from the binding if you get what I mean? A beautiful. Fine quality antique bust of the handsome"Hermes of Olympia" from the early 1900's, hollow cast in bronze and then patinated. The bust is presented on a black and white marble base. About Hermes: The original Hermes of Olympia is a large marble of the Greek god Hermes with Dionysus as a boy on his arm. It is dated in Greek art terms at the transition from the late Classical to early Hellenistic period by 340 v. Chr. The sculpture is attributed to the sculptor Praxiteles. It is now located in the Museum at Olympia. The statue was found on May 8. 1877 during excavations in the cellar of the Temple of Hera in Olympia under the direction of Gustav Hirschfeld. Miniature vintage Grand Tour Egyptian Sphinx figurine is fairly primitive but still has loads of interesting detail and original. Beautiful antique patina. The tail curls up over her back and the headpiece is handsomely carved to resemble striped fabric. Perhaps a rendition of Cleopatra, measuring 1 1/2” tall x 3” long x 3/4” wide. She elegantly lies in the classic pose of the sphinx. This item was purchased in the early 1980’s at a well known downtown NYC antiques dealer and has been in my possession since. Antique Grand Tour Bronze of a Roman Emperor/Greek Thinker on a Stone Base
A nicely detailed bronze statue designed to be sold to tourists during their Grand Tours of Europe during the later part of the 19th century—so obviously they could go home to damp climes and proudly show off their knowledge and taste. Height is about 6 inches including the stone base which measures about 3 1/4 inches square. Cruddy old polish residues that from a distance(like about a mile) resemble age wear. Stone base also looks antiquiee as if it was pried from the Forum or Colosseum. It was about as real as the Colored Wide Screen Hollywood versions of Ancient Roman. Gore Vidal. Btw was hired to write the screen play for Ben Hur—that horribly bad novel by the ex Union War Hero Lew Wallace who eventually crawled back to Indiana to await his rapture into the bosom of Christ—which never came soon enough. Anyhow, the novel was such a howler ... morethat Gore was stunned senseless—wandering out to the via via ventio where he was hit by an Italian lad on a Vespa delivering pizzas. Gore never fully recovered, although he did ask the Pizza boy to move back to Beverly Hills with him, and went to make a series of nasty snide snipes against Charles Heston hinting that Chuck had all the dramatic acting talent of a piece of plywood.

Huge 1905 Post Card Album Grand Tour Museum Landmarks Great Buildings Statues
Extra large approximately 6 pound full post card album that has approximately 480 post cards. It is from the David Starr Jordan estate and I found one post card to a family member. It looks like the only posted card in the album. The family wrote copious notes to each other but the album is mostly a consistent record of sites seen. There are postcards from many major cities in Italy and other European destinations and their museums. There are also landmarks. Important buildings gargoyles(French)certainly way too many to photo.There are approximately a dozen empty spaces. Some because of vertical postcards. Approximately 23 are full color or tinted.
