Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. French antique bronze( iron- Three door bells or CHIMES- Quite melodious! My lovely daughter-in-law's french grandfather gave this to her many years ago. She gave several items to me to free up closet space thinking I could sell it on eBay. So here it is. Now if you like wind chimes. These have a most desirable ring to them. This could also be used as a good old days style door bell. Actually, this looks more like a door bell arrangement with the dinger hingey than wind chimes so you get a twoferone kind of deal. Each of the three chimes is about 2.75" by 1.5" by 2.5" without the two top holders. Hanging height is about 12 3/4" including the twisted metal instigator. The piece is in excellent condition and left untouched. French antique bronze & iron - door bell - Accompanied by a bracket for hanging.
My lovely daughter-in-law's french grandfather gave this to her many years ago. She gave several items to me to free up closet space so here it is. The bell is larger than similar bells I have seen online. This bell has a number 140 or 40 as shown. The diameter is almost four inches(4" and the height to the top including the do-hickey used to attach the chain is also almost four inches(4" or about 100MM if I read the tape correctly. Ornate Foliate French Bronze Mantle Clock with Cherub
Gorgeous wind up movement french bronze mantle clock standing 23cm high. The clock is cased in a very ornate foliate design and stands upon a four footed base. At the top of the clock sits a well modelled cherub. The face of the clock is enamelled& decorated with delicate floral swags. The clock seems to be in working order and is happily ticking away on my desk. However i have not run it for a period of time to see how well it keeps time. Reverse of the clock movement is stamped MADE IN FRANCE. Although it is working i am selling this with no guarantee as to working order as clocks can sometimes get shaken during delivery and then may require a little TLC to put right. I am offering a diamond in the rough a beautiful antique French gilded bronze and hand painted porcelain mantle clock made by the renowned French clocks maker Samuel Marti et Cie. This piece was made between 1860 and 1870. Based on the early serial number of 1989. Movement stamped“S. Marti et Cie Medaille de Bronze” in a circle. Samuel Marti was awarded the Bronze Medal in 1860. as well as the hand stamped serial number and the makers mark, there is an interesting mark in the left side of the back plate which is a square with the capital letters C,J,C,C. Please view all photos for these marks and for the overall condition and appearance of this beautiful time piece. This is a working mantle clock and it strike the chimes on the half and whole hours. The condition of this piece is excellent. But need a cleaning to make it glow. The hand painted ... moreporcelain dial and the associate plates are in perfect condition. The back cover is missing, but can be replaced. The front glass cover is perfect. The key and the pendulum are replacements. The pendulum is an original for this type of movement, but comes from a different clock. This clock measures approximately 15.5" tall by 9.25" wide by 5.5" deep. Samuel Marti et Cie were well known clock makers in Paris in the mid eighteenth century. In 1860 it's known that their premises were situated at Le Pays de Montbeliard and in 1863 Marti worked with two other well known clock maker's Roux. And Japy Freres in promoting their clock movements. This type of clock is unique and valuable. Other examples sell for well over $2000 at auction and higher on the open market. Maintain this piece and it will only increase in value. I am offering this clock for a very reasonable starting bid with NO RESERVE.
