We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Drooping Flower Design 2 Gallon Ovoid Crock. This crock is in Excellent Condition with 1 shallow chip to the base and 2 spider lines that start at the base and extend upward. You can just feel them when you rub your fingernail over them. Very slight, they do not extend to the inside of the crock. There are no other chips, cracks, and or repairs. There is staining. The crock is 100% structually sound, it does ring true when you tap it. We guarantee 100% you will be more than happy with the excellent condition of this crock. The crock measures 12" tall x 8 1/4" at the mouth x 9 1/4" wide x 6 3/4" at the base and weighs approximately 10lb 4oz. Today's Auction is for a Antique Ovoid-Type 1 Gal. Crock from F.H. Cowden- Harrisburg Pa. circa 1880-90. In fact this same F.H. Cowden served in the Civil War years before.It's in good condition with no cracks or holes. Just to let you know there's a chip on one spot on the base. Very old or possibly there when it was made and a very small nick on the outside top lip. No one would mention these because they are insignificant, but I like to let folks know everything so they're happy with an item that I send them. For it's age it is in terrific condition because if you know about stoneware it's very difficult to find with no damage, some can be major. It is a Crock/Stoneware mixing style bowl with a Salt Glazed Blue Interior and an Unglazed Tan Exterior with a cross hatch pattern built into the bottom portion. The bottom has a raised Star and the words“The German” inside the star. It has a wire and wood handle for carrying. be sure not to slosh the milk. As it would still hold milk) It measures 8 ½” across and 4 ¼” deep. It is very old and used but well taken care of. It is dirty and does have some minor flaws here and there. Antique three(3) Gallon Fort Dodge. Iowa zinc glaze stoneware crock Up for auction is an antique three gallon zinc glazed Fort Dodge. Iowa stoneware crock in excellent condition. The Fort Dodge. Iowa Stoneware Company existed from 1896-1906. In 1906 it was purchased by Western Stoneware Company and then became the Plymouth Stoneware Company from 1908-1909. Red Wing Stoneware Company then purchased the business in 1909 and continued ownership until 1910 when the plant burnt down. It was never rebuilt. This crock is over 100 years old and is almost 11” tall and 10” in diameter. The markings are in black ink. The crock is in very good condition with no chips. Glaze skips or hairline cracks. Offered here without reserve is this one gallon saltglaze stoneware crock by Hamilton of Greensboro Pa. She measures 10" high. There is some crazing of the glaze to the backside(see picture 4) But more critically there's a spider to the base(see pictures 5& 6) Its a pretty tight spider, however, since the crock still rings like a bell when tapped. For sale is a rarely-seen vintage piece of dairying history. This milking crock was found in a very old dairy barn complete with its cover. Iron hanger frame, and two vacuum valves attached at its base. It is in very nice condition for its age with only one small glazing chip at the crocks base. see photo) The iron frame exhibits a surface rust patina. With the exception of a few imperfections so common in pottery making, the piece is remarkably nice. The crock measures about 13" tall by 7" in diameter. The base section is slightly elongated. These taller bases were used to increase the amount of paste offered to the buyer. The lid measures 2 3/4" in diameter and stands 2 1/4" high when the lid is seated on the base section. The lid face features a nice pictorial of the Areca nut. The Areca nut was a Middle Eastern nut which was thought to have hygienic and astringent properties by the Victorians. when it was eventually analyzed.
