Illinois manufacturer and has their distinct star, the other one is IXI with a number but very hard to read. They could be used as bookends, doorstops or as decor. Measure aprox. 6.5"long x 3.5"wide x 5" tall- weigh about 6 lbs. each. All I can say is that I am VERY happy to use my sleek. Modern, electric iron. The model with 8 temperature settings, a blast of steam and'auto shut-off' when I forget to unplug it! I know I would not have fared well living in the 1800's! Interesting Flat irons& Sad irons facts. Blacksmiths started forging simple flat irons in the late Middle Ages. Plain metal irons were heated by a fire or on a stove. Flat irons were also called sad irons or smoothing irons. Metal handles had to be gripped in a pad or thick rag. Some irons had cool wooden handles and in 1870 a detachable handle was patented in the US. This stayed cool while the metal bases were heated and the idea was widely imitated. The sad in sad iron(or sadiron) is an old word for solid. And in some contexts this name suggests something bigger and heavier than a flat iron. You'd need at least two irons on the go together for an effective system: one in use. And one re-heating. Large households with servants had a special ironing-stove for this purpose. Some were fitted with slots for several irons, and a water-jug on top. At home. Ironing traditional fabrics without the benefit of electricity was a hot, arduous job. Irons had to be kept immaculately clean, sand-papered and polished. They must be kept away from burning fuel, and be regularly but lightly greased to avoid rusting. Beeswax prevented irons sticking to starched cloth. Constant care was needed over temperature. Though Hubley made a Boston terrier doorstop I can find no proof that they made it as a bank as well so that is why it is not listed as such. The bank is in great condition with just some minor wear to the original finish. The mold lines are smooth and well hidden. The feet are well ground so that the dog stands flat and stable. The dog's head is turned at a 90 degree angle from the body. Made of very heavy cast iron Entire bank measures approx. 7 inches wide by 9 inches tall It could be a Hubley. But I don't know enough about the brand to say for sure. I do not see any markings or numbers on it, although it is hard to see through the rust at spots. This is a still bank with the slot in the top of the back. I could not get the screw on the side undone to open it. The paint looks like it was black on most of the body with white on the underside. Or maybe it was all white at one time. Condition: Much of the paint is gone There is rust in a lot of the textured ... moreareas. More so on the legs. But the rust is not super thick or flaking, so it adds a certain charm. The seams are excellent and smooth and line up great The screw to open the bank is stuck. Uncommon Antique Solid Cast Iron Small Size Heavy Doorstop Beautiful Puppy Dog For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection. Details Description: Antique heavy(3 pounds and 9 Ounces) but rather small in size(5 1/2" long and 4 1/2" high) cast iron doorstop. the doorstop is cast in the form of a cute puppy(not certain of the breed) dog. The puppy is standing on all four with its head turned left towards you. The puppy has a very muscular body suggesting possibly some sort of a bull dog but has a much cuter face and droopy ears suggesting possibly another breed? Its head is straight looking and its ears are drooped over its head. The dog is colored in cream off-white and black colors. The details of the dog's face are very well cast so you can see its eyes. And mouth in red. Look at the wrinkles around the eyes and nose. The ... morepuppy is wearing a red studded collar around its neck and has a short tail. The doorstop is made of one piece of solid of cast iron and as such is completely solid and rather heavy for its size. The piece appears to be all original but has lost quite a bit of its original paint. This however does not affect its looks but rather gives it great character. Again, this is a smaller size doorstop than you would normally see, but has the weight to stop any door you may think of. We have attempted to research this doorstop but were unable to identify any similar doorstop in our books or the internet, which leads us to conclude that this is a rather unusual or uncommon piece. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain. But most likely early to mid 1900s Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. USA Size: Measures ~4 1/2" in height. 5 1/2" in length and is about 2 3/4" wide at the bottom of the feet. The doorstop weighs over 3 1/2 pounds, which is rather heavy for its size. Maker: Unknown. Hubley? Large Cast Iron Boston Terrier Doorstop 8 lbs 10" Tall Nice Must L@K Up for sale is this Large Cast Iron Boston Terrier. He is in pretty good shape and has light paint chipping around his face otherwise the paint is in pretty good shape. He measures 10 inches tall by 8 inches long and 3 inches wide in no means a small piece. He is also a really heavy weighing just over 8 pounds and would make a great doorstop. Otherwise I don't know to much about him. One thing though this isn't something you are going to find at a local walmart. So don't miss out!

Antique Cast Iron Red Elephant Doorstop LARGE 9" x 11"
Check out my! This is a rather large antique red cast iron elephant as pictured. He is 9" tall to the top of his trunk and 11" with limitations of missing tusks and paint peeling throughout. He has great eye appeal with his vibrant deep red color patina(scratches of unknown origin throughout) and upward trunk ready for action. Both his tusks are missing/one completely and the other with what appears to be original tusk insert sticking out. If elephants are your enthusiasm then this is a match made in Heaven. This is yet another treasure from my Dad's carefully purchased and stored collection with his words written on an attached tag. Vintage cast iron piggy bank. Pig is sitting. It has a slit in the back for the money to go in and a screw in the side to open bank to remove money. This bank is very heavy- 5 pounds. It is 10 inches long from snout to tail. 5 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches wide. Great doorstop. This bank is in very good condition. It has some surface rust- does not affect integrity. Screw is probably rusted in. Over all in very good condition.

Cast iron door stop bank.Appox 6.75 X 8 inches and 6 lbs. The girls dug this out.I honestly do not remember anything about it.I do not remember it in the house.I suppose it may be a Hubley but I certainly cannot loosen the flathead screw on the side.It appears to be a Springer Spaniel full grown dog,the paint is all original with some light discoloration showing thru in places namely underneath and between the back legs.I asked the girls to photograph the dog as well as possible.The casting is highly detailed in the fur, extremely well done.the painting is also high quality with the brown fading into the white fur.I dont know who made it but it is a very nice piece.

Antique Cast Iron Flowers Floral Basket Bookends Doorstop
Up for auction are a pair of 6 5/8" tall x 4 1/8" wide x 2" deep. Cast iron bookends with a floral motif. Since purchased, I believed that the paint was original, but after viewing others on Ebay with little or no paint, I am not sure. When I look them over carefully, I see dirt, wear, cracking of paint and age(patina) which would take some time and effort to impart. In addition, the paint on the front bottom half and that on the back seem to be the same color, but with the back looking cleaner and brighter. If original, I would assume the front would be dirtier from handling and dust, which it is, while the back would show less dirt, wear and oxidation since it would be pressed against a book.
