This antique hand carved wall plaque It is carved in total relief from a single piece of wood except the hands.These antique Black Forest pieces are hard to find- especially in this massive size. The intricate carving depicts a man holding his hands out. The realistic carving and attention to detail give this piece a commanding presence. The plaque has it's original finish which is worn here and there down to the natural wood underneath. This provides a nice contrast with the natural wood and the antique finish. The overall condition of this carving is excellent- it has a small repair on the left hand. But you hardly notice it. A super pair of antique black forest gnomes(19th century) Each of which stands approximately 5.1/2 inches high. Wonderful expressions on their faces and superbly carved and I have to say that they are better'in the flesh, than in the photos. The original highlighted areas of paint are still there and in good condition(mainly hats. Noses, cheeks, lips and jackets) Condition: 1. The reclining one has half a foot/shoe missing. 2. The other has a hand missing and a small part of the flat wood which holds the books is broken away. Such a shame as otherwise they are in great shape. 3. There are some stains running down where the books rest but this looks either easily removed or was part of the original staining process. This. A wonderful antique. Hand carved Owl pencil holder with its original glass eyes. The holder is beautifully carved and has been in a special library for a lifetime. I have never seen another pencil holder like this one. It is 5 11/16" at the Owl. The bottom's dimensions are 2 3/4" X 3 7/16" It is in excellent condition. Absolutely Awesome Antique American Eagle Carved Black Forest
Presenting for auction; A great American Carved Eagle. The carving looks typical to the Black Forest region. I would date it from the late 19 th to very early 20 th century. It is possible that the eagle was an architectural piece off of something else. Holes in the back can be seen. The back board has a bit difference in color variation. The whole configuration is done in three sections(the backboard, eagle and the foliage) The backboard base, than the bird attached at the top and the carving with foliage attached under the bird. The back board has been carved to complement the whole configuration nicely. If this started life together or put together from another piece, it makes a great wall hanger. The exaggerated neck of the eagle appears it could had been part of a rack for holding something, possible a coat or to hold a bag. Someone ... morehad refinished it and added a varnish. Steel wool could bring the shine down if you decide to. The piece measures 22 1/4” wing tip to tip X 21 3/4” height X 7 1/2” depth. The carving weights just under 6 pounds. It is just wonderful. It looks like it could get up and walk away at any time. The Deer appears to have been carved from a solid piece of wood. The carving has had a thin covering that looks to be a mixture of fine wood shavings and some kind of binder applied to most of the body. The carving has a pair of real Roe Deer antlers attached with screws. ... moreThe antlers came from quite a mature Roe Deer judging by the size. The face has glass eyes and eyelashes implanted on the upper and lower eye lids. The carving weights a hefty 96 pounds. The carving measures: 37 inches long. 15 inches wide 34 inches tall including its antlers or 24 inches tall without antlers. Condition: The carving is in excellent condition. There are no apparent breaks or major repairs. The carving has developed a couple of cracks in the wood on the stomach and some places where it looks like the covering was repaired most likely to cover cracks that had developed. This handcarved Ibex Mountain Goat measures 12' tall x 6 1/2' wide at the ears and comes off the wall 7 inches. The goat has some drying superficial cracks that are pictured and one horn has had a repair that is also pictured. This Ibex may have been the centerpiece of a large ornate wall plaque but is just a terrific looking head mount now. The Ibex has glass eyes and is a stunning Black Forest piece from Germany. Founded by Adam Fehrenback(est.1860-1877) it later merged with Uhrenfabrik Furtwangen in 1906. Closed after 1918, it resumed operations in 1927 with an additional closing in 1945. Our example is in parts, but almost complete.lacking some finials, top piece, front glass and hands for the movement itself. We do have the main case with side glass in place, time and strike movement and pendulum. All appear original to the case. We removed the movement to photograph only, and for it's safety will ship it boxed separately. It mounts correctly and the pendulum attaches properly. Wood veneer ... moreis missing on the front door base bottom as you can see in our posted photos. We have the pieces that came from the area.doubtful as to their reuse but with your expertise, perhaps it is possible. Additionally, there is a hairline in the center top of the door face that you can also see in our posted photos. Inside, there are a few nicks and bits of wood loss on the interior of the door here and there as well as partial loss of the thin holding strips for the side glass. This clock is signed and id is stamped on movement(Bachmaier& Klemmer) I test ran for a week and it keeps perfect time and looks as if it was recently restored to full working order with new bellows and chains, cleaning, oiling. Wonderful Vintage Cuckoo Clock in Original Box! Schatz, Triberg, Black Forest
Up for auction tonight is a wonderful old Black Forest cuckoo clock that I acquired from the estate of a very sweet gentleman. He told me that it still works. It was tucked away in the original box in his tidy mid century garage. I took it home and hung it on my wall. The little bird pops out and"cuckoos" when you pull a little red striped string. But I don't know enough about clocks to know to make this great piece run again. I feel like repairing the mechanics of this piece(if needed) must be a simple fix; the pieces are all in the tidy box. Look at the great foil label on the end of the box! I feel like the clock must have been purchased in the forties or fifties. But again. This is not my expertise. This clock needs some work. The large wooden bird's outer wing is unattached(currently, it is affixed with a piece of sticky ... moreputty, which is easily removed) The little beak needs a touch-up on the tip. So does one of the leaves. The"bridge" of leaves with the bird is meant to detach. A couple of the numerals are missing from the clock face. The minute hand is missing. The chains are nice, as are the pine cone weights. The package is original. But simple. I don't know, but there must have been a bit more to the lid originally. The box has compartments to hold the pine cones. It has two little bundles of hay for packing. One has been unwrapped a bit(someone was curious what was inside! And this clock is one of the earliest designs by Schemechenbecker. It is one of the rarest clocks ever produced. It's beautifully designed, very colorful, musical, and the animation is charming and hilarious too! But I'm getting ahead of myself.the clock is made from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The case looks very much like a chalet home in the Alps of southern Germany and lavished with colorful hand painted ... moreflowers including two large Edelweiss below the lower platform. The roof has simulated wooden timbers on it, very much like the real thing used on homes in the Black Forest to keep the roof on during inclimate weather. There is a colorful scrolled wooden eave under the front roofline and red wooden shutters with heart emblems cut into them on either side of the two wooden windows near the top. There is a wooden balcony just below the windows with colorful flower box sprays below the left window and beaded wooden trim as well. Another wooden platform is found under the dial with two colorful wooden rail fences on either side with more floral accents. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy white matching hands to point out the time. It is marked"W Germany" as well in small block letters near the bottom of the dial. 5-Day Auction. First off I AM NOT a clock expert. Clock without the top head dress installed is around 18 1/2 inches tall by 14 inches at its widest point. The top head dress(dear/elk part) is 16 1/2 inches tall by 16 1/2 inches wide. Get out your yard stick and visualize it. Found this at an estate sale in the condition you see it. Could be a really nice clock with some work. Here is what I've noticed it needs: The whole wood structure needs tightening up. Roof needs nails and glue. The# 4 and the lower left small leaf need to be glued back on. Clock looks like it has had cracks repaired in the past. No weights or pendulum. The twisted wood trim on the front of the roof of this antique Cuckoo Clock was added by a past owner to cover up the missing carved crest typical of these ... moreclocks. The rest of this 15 ¾ inch wide by 17 ¾ inch tall carved and inlaid walnut cuckoo clock is original. Both carved and painted mechanical wood cuckoos are still behind their little doors and all the walnut carvings as well as the intricate inlaid strips are perfect with no restorations. There is a shrinkage crack to the left side of the 6 inch diameter wood face and some of the Roman numerals are missing small pieces. I don’t have the pendulum. But this clock does have both original 7 inch long pine cone weights. The brass works on the inside are complete; however, without the pendulum I cannot see if this clock still works. If after all this you are still interested in this circa-1900 German Double Cuckoo Clock. You'll be glad to know there is no reserve. Nice Carved Antique Black Forest Cuckoo Clock by PHS Beha offered this model 309
Up for auction is a wonderful carved antique cuckoo clock. This clock has a very pleasing motif that creates a wonderful silhouette against the wall. The carvings are all done in walnut(hardwood)vs the much more commonly seen linden(soft wood) they are shape and have excellent detail. This identical model was offered by Johann Baptist Beha and several other other high end firms. See image of Beha catalog attached model#309 This particular clock was made by the St. Georgen firm. Philipp Haas& Söhne(PHS) PHS made many fantastic clocks and automata pieces and where known to offer many of the same case styles offered by Johann Baptist Beha. This example is a double signed clock. 1 the clock has a label with the firms logo of the"Springing Hare" on the back board. 2 The"Springing Hare" which was PHS's trademark ... moreto advertise their clocks can also be seen incorporated into the bridge that supports the crutch on the movement. see photo) This is covered in detail in my book. Rare Old pre-1880 Wood Plate Movement German Black Forest CUCKOO CLOCK
A rare. Truly old and collectible German cuckoo clock. Features include a wood plate movement dating this clock to pre-1880(130 plus years old) The original early large pine cone weights(the larger and smaller cones total 3 pounds! original bird and Bahnhäusle style square case(not Chalet) design. A rare clock in good condition! I received this very old cuckoo from a local collector and it was running when I got it. This clock was cleaned and lightly oiled and runs well- i f you want to see a video of this fabulous clock running please email me. The bellows. Hands and numerals are modern replacements, the original bellows are included if you want to restore them with new leathers. The action and‘folk art factor’ of the original moving-wing cuckoo bird and carved front is fabulous. The case and front measures 17 inches tall by 10.5 inches ... morewide by 7 inches deep, the original patinated brass chains are 71 inches long, and the carved top bird is just over 7 inches long. The heavy pine cone weights are 6.6 and 5.9 inches long, and the original dial is 5 inches in diameter. There are no damages at all and no insect holes. The last 113 years have passed over the clock without traces. The clock was hanging in a livingroom in the Black Forest Germany and has been handled carefully and caressed. The cockoo calls loud and you could not tell of his high age. You are looking at an Antique 19c German Black Forest Two Weight Cuckoo Clock. This clock is large. From the top of the bird to the frame’s bottom, it’s 17 inches tall, 13 inches wide, 7.5 inches deep. All measurements approximate. This clock is over 100 years old. It’s in great shape. However. The back has a small crack, but it’s still held strong in place. You can see the movements was made in West Germany. The clock runs strong and keeps good time. It cuckoos on the half-hour and on the hour. The only real issue I see is the pendulum. Which has some repairs on it, but it’s not really noticeable when it’s swinging.
