His signature is on the front but there is no paperwork with it and I don't know if this was a promotional mirror or personally signed. I am selling this for a friend who is almost 87 years old and she has owned this for a very long time. The top of the mirror glaze is discolored, very small scratches and it needs cleaning. It turned out just like the little image I had in mind. These little birds are painted in oils. The size is on one of the images shown. The mirror is about 80+ years old. Some of the brushed on silver mirror is wearing down. But to me it adds character and shows the age. The wood is in perfect condition with not cracks, splits or nicks. The stain is old and shows a copper patina underneath that is now exposed. But what lovely results. I am a fine arts artist. My flavor is painting for home decor. This is a beautiful heavy silver plate vanity mirror made by the Derby Silver Co. in 1891. It features a female figure with several roses around her. Antique (19th C?) Wall Mirror w/Intricate Hand-Carved Artisan Figural Wood Frame
My grandparents bought this mirror& frame while antiquing in the Northeast US in the 1940's or 1950's. I would estimate that it's 19th Century. And I recall some talk of it being from a hotel or tavern that was closing down. Carved animal figures at top give an almost rustic look to it. But it has a kind of elegance(the carved'twist' side border and floral center at the top) that make it hard to pin down stylistically. Seems to be one-of-a-kind. As I see nothing like it at all in any Ebay listing, current or completed. Measures 43" high by about 25"at widest point. Dark wood could possibly be a stained cherry. But I'm not sure. The 15" X 27 1/2" beveled-edge mirror itself shows some age. And has a couple of spots that suggest it could me re-silvered or replaced, but there's no damage of ... moreany kind to the frame. This is an unusual one. Looks to be a quality piece. It measures 10x6. The back is a pebbled plastic-like stuff. The black is a heavy silky fabric. Mirror is thick an scalloped. The frame is a deep green and antique gold color. The mirror has a beautiful arched floral and leaf motif. The silvering is in good condition with the exception of a few faint streaks. Some little silver loss, some spotting or foxing to the undersurface of the mirror, but all the glass is intact; no cracks or breaks. Small slice of wood missing from the top right hand corner of frame. Frame is pretty tight; one rusty nail in each corner holding the frame together. This is a vintage antique C. 1910-1920 lether embossed purse/ wristlet/ handbag. Decorative clasp functions great. Interior is dark greenish leather and is intact and houses original leather coin purse and leather encased vanity mirror. Mirror is still useable but has some discolorations under the glass(age) All original. Dark leather is soft and shows no cracking or hardening or rot and is in great shape. The clasp works by turning the metal flapper to open and close. Patina to the metal. I believe it says"Pat appld for" on the metal part. There is some darkening to leather where flapper hangs and rubs and some minor surface"scratches" No cleaning or leather shining has been done and will be left up to buyer if desired. What a Beautiful and Rare Find. Excellent Condition for it's age. Has to be early 1900's. Hand Painted Flowers around the perimeter with aged distress and decor paint color. All carved wood top and bottom with dowel spliced joints, see photo#3. Mirror is 19-1/2" at it's widest point and 30" tall. Very heavy with double hanging wire. Mirror is fully covered on the back with 1/4" panel, no makers name. I believe the wood frame is Mahogany. One age dot, about 1/16" in diameter, see photo#2, just above the couch in the photo. This item was hanging on the master bedroom's bathroom door and the owner's were using it to hang their bathrobe's on the unknown animal horns.
