The oak is dark and solid. In the frame is a damaged print with original vintage glass. The outer dimensions of the frame measure 15 ½” wide by 12 ½” tall. Visible art area measures 11 ½” wide by 8 ½” tall. The oak is roughly 2” wide, and in wonderful original, untouched condition. The wood had a few minor scuffs, a tape mark, no other issues. The print is damaged from a pest who ate its way through the assembly. The glass is old and has a typical bubbly texture. The original owner, Olive Burnett, wrote a sentimental statement on the back, noting the origins of this art to her childhood home. There is wood beading/trim around the glass- also gold in color. Some of the beading has some small nicks(see photos) Some nicks around edge of frame and backside. Glass intact. The picture inside frame is just a piece of paper and the backing is a small piece of aged cardboard. There are 2 old screws with wire for hanging. The frame measures approx 11" tall x 13" wide. The designs are not glued pieces, they are carved into the frame. The frame has 7sections. The top, two side frame pieces, and the bottom frame piece. There are also two side attachements with a bottom cross piece. Additionally, there are 4 arched feet. The frame featues exceptionally ornate and intricately carved wood. The top of the frame has very detailed leave and acorn carved design. This"headpiece" has an ornate arched lower section which is incised in a diamond design. Inside the diamonds are notches which make up 4 petaled flowers. A faux twist rope pattern is carved on the border. This topper is one piece of wood and attaches to the side frames at the upper ... morecorners(see photo12) The side frames are also incised/carved with overlapping leaves as well as the diamond cross hatched pattern. They are connected to side columns with dowls(there are no nail or screw holes present) The side columns feature turned wood with a gorgeous. Flower accent. The side columns continue to the ornate feet of the screen. The feet extend the same in the front and the back. They feature carved wood leaves with a bottom, carved flower. The feet are connected with a cross frame piece that is carved in an egg and dart design. The frame is exquisite. It is all carved with only 4 overlay pieces. These pieces are located at each corner. They are carved shells and are a much lighter colored wood. I am not exactly certain as to the type of wood. It is finished in a medium to darker brown stain. The four shell overlays are a golden colored wood. The frame is in extremely nice condition with very few dings or scratches. It has been beautifully preserved. This very large and very ornate frame at one time housed a lovely tapestry but it is gone. It would make a fantastic standing room divider/dressing screen or an amazing mirror frame. Ornate Antique Gold Guilt Gesso Frame Beveled Mirror
This is a gorgeous. Antique, gold, gesso mirror that has been in my family for ages. The frame dates back to the 1880's according to my nana who passed it down to me. This piece has seen some wear and isn't perfect but, nothing that takes away from how gorgeous this piece is. I think any minor flaw just adds to the patina of the piece. The mirror itself is beveled and in beautiful condition for its age. There is hardly a scratch on it which is quite remarkable. The frame measures 20"x 20" and as you can see from the picture.
