Antique Chinese Hexagonal Brass or Bronze Bell Chime Dragons Nice Patina Chasing Dragons. Wonderful old six paneled bell with chased detail of dragons. Metal has developed a nice overall patina. At some point. A knotted cord was added to hold ten old Chinese coins that chime when they contact the metal w hich has a nice sound. The bell measures 4-3/4" high including the finial x 4-1/8" across the bottom from point to point or 3-3/4" from panel to panel. Excellent vintage condition. Questions welcome. Ancient and splendid image of the Lord Buddha in the Dvaravati style, cast in bronze in Thailand. I acquired him. As I did another Buddha which I previoulsy listed here, at an estate sale of a gentleman who was employed by the State Department and posted to Southeast Asia in the early middle years of the last century. His widow said that he acquired almost all of his items from a very respectable dealer in Bangkok and showed me the notebook in which he kept notes on all of his finds. For this Buddha he noted that he was"unearthed from a collapsed Stupa, in the central region of Thailand. The relic was discovered amongst similar images of different ... moresizes, buried beneath the stupa rubble. The figure remains in its original condition as found, with stylistic considerations indicating an age of 350 years old or earlier" This was well before tight controls were put on excavations in Southeast Asia and this Buddha entered this country before the prohibitions against the export of antiquities were in place. The fact that this figure was buried for so long probably accounts for the good condition in which he still is. The long time spent underground accounts for the rich coloration of the figure and also the accumulation of"schmutz" a very acceptable term of art) which I have been unwilling to try to remove for fear of disturbing the surface. I always think it best to leave these as they are. Our present Buddha has all of the hallmarks of what is called the Dvaravati style. Dvaravati refers to a kingdom situated in the Chao Phraya river basin between the 7th and 11th centuries A.D. The Chao Phraya River is the chief river of Thailand. Fed by many tributaries arising near the boundaries with Burma and Loas. It empties into the Gulf of Thailand at Bangkok. The Dvaravati style derived from Indian archetypes suc

This 19th century Antique Ansonia NY Mantel Clock comes with the key it has a porcelain face and an amazing face border and hands that are made of what looks to be gold. I did a ton of research on this clock, these clocks there were a few that were popular models so you see a few of them around, this clock you simply will not find another one and it is because it was such a rare made clock. People could order gold on these clocks back in the day but most of the people just went for a lower end model. I did not acid test the gold so i simply cannot guarentee that it is gold, but from my research and finding other articles on these I can tell you that I would pretty much bet the farm that it is. But I am cautioning ... moreyou and telling you not to bid on this because of its gold content for that very reason. You have to think though. What other metal does not tarnish and looks like this? That is right NOTHING only gold looks like this through the years. All I know is that the ones that I saw for example that were made of gold were $4,000 clocks. Here are two sets of Antique Car Coins. Obtained through a promotion at Sunoco gas stations in 1968. Both are sets of 25, with one coin for each year from 1901 thru 1925, with a classic car from that year on the coin. This is Series 1. Both sets were made by the Franklin Mint. One set is made of a lightweight, silver-colored metal, and these were given away with gasoline purchases. Certain coins were marked as prize winners, and one of the prizes was a complete set of the coins in solid bronze, and that complete set is included as well. The silvertone coins come in a cardstock holder, and that has some staines and the corner tips are bent. The bronze set comes in a heavier holder, which has some edge wear. Antique Bronze or Brass Framed Bust of Woman
A fascinating antique Victorian bronze or brass bas relief of young woman's bust in nearly 3/4 round with unique frame. The sculpted bust. Approximately 4 3/4" wide by 6 1/4" high within a blackened oak frame with metallic- type corner wreaths measuring 7 1/4" by 8 3/4" came out of an excellent estate with some other unusual metal artwork. I would guess that the model was a historical figure but I have no idea who she was or the purpose of the artwork. I believe that the process used was wax and acid, letting the acid wear the background away from the sculpture. I had just the right frame in my collection for such a piece and only had to make slight alterations in the back for it to fit.it has a few chips on the corners. I've left the sculpture as I found it knowing that some collectors like their antiques in untouched ... morefinish.the corrosion or darkened areas could be cleaned if desired.
