Beautiful vintage 1947 World Book Encyclopedia map Alabama colorful work of art!
This is a map of Alabama from the limited printing of the 1947 post-war edition of the World Book Encyclopedia. It Is really a pretty map; the colors are bright(much brighter than the scan shows) The printing is crisp, and it is in great condition. This map is a 2-page spread disbound from the encyclopedia. It was tipped in using a separate little tongue of paper, so the map itself was not cut as it was removed. There is a crease down the center where it was folded in the book. The map was a little too big to fit on my scanner, so not all of it is shown in the scan. It has a white border all the way around it. The map is 9 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 inches. The altitude is color-coded, from green for the lowest altitude through yellow and orange to red for the highest altitude. I don't know much about maps, so I don't know how this one ... morewas made. It has an old-fashioned lithographed look to it, but I think I can see dots when I look at it through a magnifying glass. On the back of the map Alabama towns are listed with their location and population(circa 1947) This is such a nice-looking map! It would look great framed. A double-sided page with boldly colored maps of Alabama on one side and Alaska on the other side. From an atlas by the renowned George F. Cram Company. Most antique and vintage maps have subdued shades. But these maps have rich colors that will really stand out framed. Because the maps are printed back to back. Only one can be displayed at a time. This offering features a large George Cram. Double-page, multi-color map of Alabama. The map was extracted from the George Cram Modern Atlas-the World, published in 1911, and which was in unsalvageable condition. The last two photos validate the origin of the map and its publishing date. The back of this map includes a full index of counties. Towns and cities in Alabama in 1911, plus their population and location on the map. This map has a total page size of 15-1/8" wide x 22-1/2" long. And an image size of 13-3/8" wide x 20-3/8" long. The map's condition is excellent, with only a little yellowing of the white margins, a little ink bleed-through near the title block, and minor tears in the margin.
