SUPERB ART NOUVEAU ALVIN 999 SILVER OVERLAY GLASS PERFUME BOTTLE IRIS DESIGN Presented is a beautiful silver and glass stoppered bottle by Alvin. This piece dates to the Art Nouveau period. And is done very much in that style. The bottle is covered entirely with a thick layer of silver, with none of the interior glass visible from the outside, unlike most silver overlay bottles. The silver is fantastically engraved with iris flower designs, done in a flowing, sinuous style. This iris motif is continued on the silver of the stopper as well. The leaves and stems of the irises form an oval cartouche on the side of the bottle, which has never been monogrammed. Use this bottle to hold whatever fine perfume or eau de toilet you like, or simply as a lovely display piece. This ... morepiece is in great condition. The overlay has no splits or problems of any sort. The glass is not visible from the outside. But looking inside, you can see there are no cracks or breaks. The stopper fits snugly. Item Description While starting bids may vary I ALWAYS POST WITH NO RESERVE! Up for auction is a breathtaking& rare perfume bottle. While it is not marked I do believe this is a Moser bottle. It is very intricately decorated with scrolls. Flourishes, flowers and greenery. The colors are so deep and rich it makes for a very elegant bottle. The base glass appears to be a light tan with all the other colors you see hand painted on it. This bottle is most likely c. late 1800's- early 1900's from the Art Nouveau period. The design certainly is true to that era. The enamels are still vibrant with color and still with plenty of gold accent. As you would expect for an item of this age there are very tiny nips to the enamels here and there- but nothing major or distracting. You will be reassured by the photos that it is in excellent condition. ... moreI only found one tiny area where a bubble popped but it is so near the bottom you won't even notice it. No other chips, cracks or repairs that I can find. The atomizer is in good condition with only a few light surface marks. The metal collar is secure to the bottle with no major marks or dents to report but could use a polish. The metal syphon tube is intact and only the bulb is new. When I squeeze the bulb I do feel puffs of air come out. The bottle is empty and clean inside and out. It is 5 1/4 inches tall and about 3 1/4 inches in diameter across the widest part. This is a bottle for the serious collector and you will love showing it off as part of your collection ~ I guarantee it!
