The casket retains the original silk lampas fabric lined interior. It closes properly and securely, no major denting but some age related dark spots to the gilding. The painting has what looks to be old glue either on the glass interior or on the painting itself. There is age to the silk interior, but still very presentable and pleasing. THIS WAS BROUGHT IN ON CONSIGNMENT. THE GENTLEMAN SAID IT WAS 18th CENTURY HAND FANS. FROM FRANCE WE WERE TOLD BY AN ANTIQUE DEALER. LATE 1700's, MADE OF HAND PAINTED SILK, THE BIRDS HAVE REAL FEATHERS, ONE OF THE BIRDS IS MISSING A BEAK. THE SILK HAS SOME SMALL MOTH HOLES IN IT ON EACH FAN. THE RIC RAC IS LOSE AND NEEDS SEWN, THE GILDING IS WORN OFF MOST OF THE WOOD HANDLES. THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE STILL MUSEUM QUALITY. Antique French fan hand-painted, signed, silk, sequins, carving, gold paint
For your consideration is an absolutely precious antique Victorian or Georgian era(pre-1900s) hand-painted silk fan with carved spines. The fan contains swirly embellishments as well as three young couples at a dance. The artwork is signed either"Byon" or Bijon. probably the latter. The silk has gold paint accents and has French silver-colored metal micro-sequins sewn onto it. I can see no loose sequins and no missing sequins. The threads attaching the sequins are intact. The spines are hand-carved and hand painted with gold color. The spines are also imbedded with tiny metal sivertone discs. The fan opens and closes sharply. The join at the bottom of the spines is in fine shape and includes two mother of pearl beads. Overall the fan is in great shape considering its delicacy. There are tears in the fine gauzy silk. Primarily in ... morethe back layer, but also a bit in the front vertically along the folds at the bottom. I have sewn four small stitches with silk thread to remedy the spots that bothered me. see photos) The spines are a little dirty in spots. No spines are loose, missing or broken. These are stunning and I purchased the chairs directly in Paris. France from a Magnificent Gorgeous French Chateau. I had them totally redone and all reupholstered as shown in some of my antique French Fine silk fabric. The effect is stunning and the fabric and colour would match everything as its a light off white colour and each chair is surrounded with large French antique Fabric scallops in which I had done also to each chair. The gold gilt is still the Original and if you prefer you can colour them yourself to change the colour of the wood. or add a colour here and there of ... moreyour colours to match them even more. The Antique French Silk fabric is very old and has markings on the seat as shown- however-I continued to used this fabric as its very rich in appearance and I did not mind these marking in the antique fabric as it made them look even more charming. The markings are light a strip of light tan going through the seat area. They each have arms which is wonderful for resting upon and with a full back and full seating area making them very comfortable. The one you see in my photos on the very very bottom the fabric having stains as shown however this is way underneath the chair and certainly does not effect the appearance. I am redoing my rooms and selling many of my personal pieces as this set is. I hope someone will treasure them as they are very rich in appearance and classy to place in any room. Those small stick one pads you see on the backs upper are so they don't touch my walls for protection however you can remove them if you wish to. Antique French Sequined Black Silk & Blonde Horn Hand Fan, Circa 1800-1849
This is an adorable little fan with a small tear on the upper right next to the guard. Needs to be re-glued to the guard. The sticks and guards are inlaid with cloute. With a floral design. The left guardstick has some rough edges that might have been a break in the past that had been repaired- it's very hard to see. The leaf has gold colored sequins and spangles. It measures 9-1/2" long. The fan used to be displayed in a frame as the horn sticks have bent(see last photo) It can still be opened easily, but it can be reframed. Sorry about the shadow covering the left half of the fan- it is all one color- no fading or anything.
