Antique Arts& Crafts era picture frame doesn't have a single nail in it! It is all interlocked together. Will accommodate anything 8.5 x 11 inches. We are pleased to offer this antique to older vintage. Hand crafted, solid wood, collage picture frame. This grand and heavy frame features thick oak construction(no veneer) with an overall rectangular design. The frame has 12 large carved individual frames inside the outer frame which are set in 4 vertical rows of 3 horizontal frames. Each frame has an oval opening and, because of the thickness of the wood, the picture sits very recessed inside the opening. There is a beautiful, arts and crafts style carving, burned or incised pattern that surrounds each individual opening and makes each one seem independent of the other. There is a scalloped border around each oval opening. Inside the scalloped design are very petite flowers. The frame is further divided with straight line incisions. Petite flowers and leaves accent the lines at each intersection. ... moreThis is a gorgeous frame and quite nicely made. It has been refinished at some point and is in very good condition. There are two areas of splitting(see pictures 8 and 9) These have been filled under the surface and they do not affect the structural integrity of the frame at all. This is a great looking antique Arts and Crafts handcarved picture frame with painted shields. I would date it very early 20th century. The carved pieces remind me of American flag shields. But I'm really not sure what they represent. It's a very decorative frame with a very handsome look about it. It has a number of great old wormholes or beetle holes on the bottom area. But the bugs are gone. There is a chipped piece of carving on the left side. As you can see in the photo. It is about 3/8 inches wide. Also. I just wanted to be accurate and the is 5.5"w x 1 7/8"d. The frame overall is in excellent condition with a few minor rubs and tiny touch ups needed in a couple corners but nothing detracting. Please note that because of the large size, it was difficult to photograph the frame head-on and with no distortion. Tin and Tile Picture Frame, Distressed, Modern, Mission/Arts and Crafts Style
For your consideration. A really cool picture frame. Frame is all tin(metal) with tiles inlaid as a border. The tiles are blue and white Talavera style. I believe this to be a modern(in the last 30 years) picture frame that was produced and distressed to look old. There are no markings. It is in the Mission style but would fit an Arts and Crafts setting as well. View the pictures thoroughly and draw your own conclusion as to the age.I might be wrong in my assessment. I picked up the 2 frames a auction last spring I have researched and researched these unique frames what I can gather is they were made for tin type pictures which makes them pretty old.They are primitive and rustic I am not sure of type of wood used one is a darker wood and the other is a lighter shade of wood very different and neat.frames There are hinges on the back of the frame and are rusty but function fine open and close the material or cloth used dirty the frame could be cleaned which I will leave up to the new owners they are has found. This is an antique early 20th century Arts and Crafts or Art Deco decorative frame with a later matt. I would date it 1920s or 1930s. Overall. The frame measures 13 1/4 inches by 17 1/4 inches(33.66 cm x 43.82 cm) The back opening size is 12 inches by 16 1/8 inches(30.5 cm x 40.96 cm) The molding width measures 13/16 inches(2.06 cm) I initially thought this was a handcarved frame. But as I kept staring at it I came to the conclusion it is composition attached to the base wood. But it sure does look handcarved! The thin flat part of the front of the frame has noticeable light wear all along it. Please see photos) The decorative composition part is in very good condition. Though it does have that same type of wear. It also has a few very tiny nicks on the inner edge. But they're not very noticeable.
