Mid 1800s Antique Walnut Ogee Picture Frame 14" x 18"
Antique solid walnut(not veneer) ogee picture frame from the mid 1800s. The frame fits an approx 14 1/4 x 18 1/8 inch print or painting. Its exterior dimensions are approx 17 1/4 x 18 1/8 inches and it is 1 3/8 inches high. This frame has a 1/2 inch lip instead of the 1/4 inch lip that most picture frames have. The frame has been restored. Including refinishing of the walnut, and is in very good condition. It has a few dings as typically seen on frames of this age. The dark areas on the left side of the frame are shallow gouges. The frame is being shipped without glass.

It is a deeper well than most of these I've seen before, measuring almost 4 3/8 ins. deep. The entire frame measures 14 x 16 ins. And the insert for your art is 8 x 10 ins. It still has it's old glass inside,and its wood backing.I believe the flower print is also old, or added later in the 1940s. The frame is in fair/good vintage condition with some surface chips/scratches to the black inner paint, the gilt paint shows age and patination. A few surface scratches to the outer wood. This auction is for a hard-to-find early 1800s Georgian or Regency table top easel frame. Including the original glass. The large table top, easel back frame is in very good condition, considering its age. It will need a good polish with a brass cleaner, or if you prefer to keep the original patina, leave it as is. A picture is inserted by opening the frame by removing the entire brass back(I did not open it, but assume it is in good working order! The frame is plain brass with no ornamentation, as is common in this period. The original glass is intact. The easel on the back is very unusual in its mechanics, as you can see from the pictures. There is an area of rust on the back that will need some extra work to remove, but it has not corroded the frame back at all. It has wide. Thick moldings that measure 4" wide. There are 3 different designs on the frame. The outer design is 2" wide- It has a carved design of flowers& leaves with carved/cut holes. The next design is 1" wide- it has a carved design of trailing flowers& leaves. The inner design is 1" wide- it has a carved design of small flowers& leaves. We do not see any makers marks or names. The back of the frame is a dark aged wood- this is an old frame. The i nside rabbet measurements are 20 1/4" x 16 1/4" The outside frame measurements are 27" x 23 1/4" The moulding measures 4" wide and is approx ... more1" thick. This frame weighs approx 4 1/2 lbs. A lovely antique frame with great age patina and character! The frame was finished with gold leaf that has mostly long since faded. The large piece of glass is original to the frame and to the period-it has one crack on the lower right corner. I do not see any other large cracks-has one small deep scratch or thin surface crack at lower middle center-looks like deep scratch or thin surface crack at that area, no chips and since the crack is on lower bottom right and closed I do think that the glass is a keeper and can still be used here-please see pics provided of this feature. The large 19th century antique Victorian golden gesso on tiered wood portrait frame measures approx. 27.25" tall x 18" wide x 2.25" deep. Gorgeous antique Italian/ Italy Micro Mosaic frame in the shape of an artist's palate. This exquisite antique piece was beautifully handmade with lovely layers upon layers of tiny/ micro crisp white glass tile pieces serving as its background and further embellished with tiny rich bright multi-toned pieces used to create a garden of gorgeous flowers and leaves. The base that holds this beautiful tile Mosaic workmanship is made with a heavy gold tone metal. This base is footed. Embellished with a twisted rope which surrounds its outside and inside circumference. The frame has its original oval clear glass front. It measures 5 6/8" X 4 1/8" at its longest and widest. And is approx. 1/4" in thickness. The oval glass opening measures 2" X 3" This magnificent handmade piece is in lovely condition without major issues. ... moreHowever. After viewing the frame under a microscope the following issues should be considered: Two tiny flowers are sunken but I believe this is the way it was originally made. Additionally. A blue flower at the end of one of the round edges is missing two tiny petals, and one of the yellow flowers is missing a round center glass piece. Further. The front clear glass(that goes over the center opening) is hand cut and therefore not perfect in roundness, but this is as it should be for an antique hand cut piece of glass. The antique patina on this piece's metal frame is outstanding; hence. The gold tone on the frame has darken from age but this is its original aged patina which only authenticates its old age. Lastly, there is some residue from old tape or maybe from the original labels; I have not tried to clean this frame and will leave it up to the experts. Overall this frame is in lovely condition and will display beautifully. I have photographed this antique Italian glass tile frame close-up for your view. Barey dusted, all original surface(I have not attempted to clean) Very nice double groove pattern to frame. Hand forged nails. All miters are very tight. Original sepia photograph was rebacked and remounted inside original frame. Original rippled glass with bubbles. Photograph appears to be either Chicago or Boston based on Trolley car. Frame has some light scratching(as shown in photos) Measures 23 1/2" length x 14 1/2" high with a 20" x 10" rabbet. Frame is 2" wide. It is 3/4" deep.
